Second Chance

Her response was immediate.

Unknown Number: Very well.

You watched the world flicker and disappear around you. Then, you watched as the present blurred into the past for the second time...

"Y/N, it's time for breakfast!"

A young girl - the past version of you - bounded down the monochrome stairs and into the Lucky Cat Café. She lingered by the bottom of the stairway, clearly nervous. "Um... good morning?"

Aunt Cass smiled at your younger self. "Morning!"

"Hey, Y/N," Tadashi greeted.

Your seven-year-old self sat down at the kitchen table. It was your first morning at Aunt Cass's house after being released from the orphanage. "So... what's for breakfast?" You inquired.

Aunt Cass laughed and told you to follow her. She led you into the café and gestured towards the shelves. "You can pick anything from here."

Your eyes grew wide. The shelves were filled with hundreds of different types of desserts; assortments of cake and pie and tarts and donuts and cookies - and just about everything else - engulfed your vision.

There was even a giant refrigerator filled with ice cream and other frozen sweets. It all seemed too good to be real.

"Woah," the younger you marveled. It felt like you were standing in some type of sweets universe from a movie.

"These are the perks of owning a café," Aunt Cass laughed, noting your astonishment. "Of course, you'll have to eat proper meals starting from tomorrow, but... you know. Special celebration for today!" she sang, waltzing back to the tables.

The younger you stared for five whole minutes before picking out (your favorite sweet) and returning to the kitchen table. You picked up your eating utensils and took a bite.

It tasted. Freaking. Amazing.

"By the way," you added with a mouth full of food. "Where's Hiro?"

"He's still asleep," Tadashi replied, shaking his head. "But I can change that."

He put down his fork, stood up, and sprinted up the stairs. Moments later, you heard him yell, "HIROOOOO!!!!"

Somewhere in the kitchen, a napping cat let out an angry meow.

"Oh, yeah!" Aunt Cass exclaimed. "That's Mochi."

You watched in wonder as a small cat emerged from behind the door. Its fur was mostly white, except for patches of chestnut brown and black on its back.

"He's a Japanese bobtail cat," she announced proudly. "Mochi, this is Y/N."

The cat looked you over with blue-green eyes. "Meooooooow," he said finally, before leaping up and jumping into your lap.

You reached out tentatively and ran a hand through his soft fur. The cat purred in your arms.

Just then, you heard footsteps, as Tadashi came back down the stairs. Behind him was Hiro. His black hair was messy - well, messier than usual, as if a tornado had just passed through his hair.

You burst out laughing. Hiro threw you a confused glance. "What?" He asked.

"Your... hair... is so... messy!" You exclaimed between fits of laughter.

He glared at you. "This is what it always looks like," he said defensively.

"No... it looks like a bird's nest!" You laughed, and Mochi, still in your lap, peered up from the side of the table.

Hiro groaned and took a seat across from you. "Aww," Aunt Cass whispered not-so-quietly to Tadashi. "They're in loooveeeee..."

"AM NOT!" You and Hiro both screamed at the same time.

"I just met her," Hiro said, looking annoyed. "Besides, she's my sister. Uhh. Sort of."

Your face was growing redder by the second. "I'M NOT IN LOVE WITH HIM!" You exploded. "I'm in love... with... MOCHI!"

You lifted up the cat in triumph and held him over your head.

Tadashi and Aunt Cass burst out laughing while Hiro sighed and put his face in his hands. You watched them, confused. "Did I say something weird?"

You were eight years old when you tried to contact Loria again.

For a month, you did everything in your power to reach her. You called her and sent letters to her, but you never received any reply.

Finally, you decided to stop by the orphanage to look for her. After all, she was your best friend. You wanted to know if she was okay.

The person at the front desk - a tall, thin lady with glasses - looked up at you as you walked inside. She was one of the people who had worked there from before, so she recognized you immediately.

"Hello, (Y/N)!" she greeted you cheerfully. "I haven't seen you in awhile! What do you need?"

"I'm looking for someone named Loria," you informed her.

"Loria?" The lady's smile dissipated. "I know who you are talking about. It's just that..."

"What happened?" You wondered aloud. "Where is she?"

The lady frowned, unwilling to meet your glance. "She... is no longer at the orphanage."

Your heart fluttered with hope. "Was she adopted?"

"No, that's not it..." the lady shut her eyes in concentration. "Something happened to her. She ran away a year ago. The police couldn't find her, and neither could we."

"The strange thing was, she didn't leave behind any tracks. No one could figure out why she left or where she went. It was as if she... just..."

"...disappeared."

Sooo... random update after a long time!

It's because I made a deal with my sister, and my side was that I had to write another chapter for this story.

YOU GUYS NEED TO THANK HER, BECAUSE IF SHE HADN'T MADE THAT DEAL, THIS CHAPTER WOULD ACTUALLY NOT EXIST. THANK HER IN THE COMMENTS. DO IT. NOW.

...So it's been 4 months. I'm pretty sure most of my readers are gone already... ANYONE STILL REMEMBER ME?

*silence, crickets*

Digital cookies and cake to those who are still reading ( Or if you don't like either... ice cream? :> )
