You stayed outside as the doctors tended to Hiro. You had never been this worried in your life.
You stared at the ground, clenching and unclenching your fists. This didn’t make any sense.
Hiro wasn’t the only one with a peanut allergy in the school. So why was he the only one having an allergic reaction?
It was as if it was... planned.
“Um, miss...”
You looked up. One of the nurses was standing next to you, holding a clipboard in her hands. “Hiro would like to see you.”
You nodded, swallowing the lump in your throat. Slowly, you made your way to the hospital room that Hiro was staying in.
You walked inside. “Hiro?”
“Hi, Y/N...” he replied.
You took a seat by his bedside. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah. I’m fine. I just... you know.” He looked away. “S-Sorry.”
You stared at him, surprised. “What?”
“I don’t know how this happened,” he admitted. “I was so careful.”
“I don’t think it’s your fault,” you said slowly. “Remember how Wasabi tripped over a screwdriver? What if someone had put it there?”
Hiro was silent.
“What if someone replaced the wheels on Gogo’s bike just to harm her? And Honey Lemon’s vials... what if someone mixed them up on purpose?”
“A stranger tried to trick Fred into drinking a poisonous substance. And they almost succeeded.” You continued, leaving out the part about the knife. You didn’t want to worry Hiro any further.
“And then there just happened to be peanuts in your food.” You narrowed your eyes. “Coincidence? I think not.”
Hiro was speechless. “You’re right,” he said finally. “It’s all too connected to have been an accident.”
He sank back into the hospital bed. “I’m just... too tired to think about it right now.”
You glanced at him worriedly. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
He nodded. “I’m fine.”
“Well, you should rest. I’ll leave you alone for now.” You stood up to leave, when suddenly, he grabbed your arm.
“Wait!” He shouted.
Your eyes widened in surprise. “H-Hiro?”
He looked away, his bangs covering his chocolate colored eyes. “Please,” he mumbled. “Stay with me.”
“O-Okay,” you said softly. You sat down at the side of his bed, taking his hand in your own.
There was a long pause of silence. “Y/N?” He said finally.
“Yeah?” You asked him.
He swallowed. “When I first came to the hospital... I... I saw someone.” There was a pained expression on his face.
You blinked. “Who?”
“Tadashi.”
