Relief and Aftermath
Beta Cole
Jessie's POV
I hear Makayla's body drop to the ground but I don't pay it any mind as I look up at the ceiling trying to calm my body down for the anxiety attack that it was thrusting itself on to me at the idea of having to let go of James.
When that crazy bitch pulled out a dagger and held it to my throat a lot of things went through my mind but the number one thing that kept replaying over and over in my head is how I never even got to say goodbye. I feel the shift in the air as James changes from his wolf form back to human and I hear him come over to my body before his face interrupts my view of the ceiling.
"Jessie. Jessie, please tell me you're okay." He begs me his hand coming down to touch my cheek lightly and nod my head slowly trying to swallow the nausea that's tried to fight its way up my throat. "Oh thank Goddess." He says and I watch as his body sags in relief.
"James. My hand." I manage to get out as I try to control my body and his gaze follows my arm until it finds the one chains to the wall. He uses his strength to break the chain and I feel instant relief in my aching shoulder and wrist. "Thank you." I tell him as I slowly sit myself up, slapping away his concerned hand as I push myself up against the wall. "How did you find me so fast?"
"I couldn't find my phone after gym. As soon as I did and saw the tree it I knew something was wrong. I made my way home and then towards the Winter Moon pack. There's the ones the helped me find you." He tells me and I nod my head lazily, emotionally spent out.
"Are you okay?" We ask each other simultaneously and there's a weak laugh that's shared in between us before I answer first.
"I'll be okay. Give me six shots and a cuddle session and I'll be good. I don't think we should tell Cody." I tell him turning my head to face him, my eyes searing into his.
"He already knows he was kidnapped." He tells me with a frown and I nod my head in agreement before I clarify.
"He doesn't know how bad it got. He doesn't know that you killed that girl. He doesn't know that we almost rejected you..." I tell him, my voice growing thick in the last line and I feel an added weight settle on James' shoulders.
"He wasn't okay, was he?" He asks and I shake my head.
"I can't even describe it." We drop the conversation before he helps me stand up, grabbing my hand and I stretch to get all the kinks out of my body. He wraps his arm around me and I let him, needing the comfort and we're almost out of the door when I suddenly remember. "Wait!" I tell him making us stop in our tracks and he looks at me bewildered.
"What?" He asks and I pull away from him to make my way to the human shaped bundle I saw when I first woke up, wanting to save them, just as I just was.
"There's someone else here." I tell him as I arrive at the shape in the floor and I bend down carefully to remove the dirty black blanket from over the persons huddled form. And both James and I gasp when we see who's beneath the blanket.
"Jessica?" James whispers in fear and concern and it indeed is her, his dark hair greasy and stringy framing her sullen face. Looking at her, I begin to panic slightly when I don't see her chest moving, but two fingers to her throat lets me know that she is alive, even if her pulse is faint. "I'll get her." James tells me and I move aside as he lifts her sickly body into his arms.
As he looks down at her form, I don't miss the way his eyes drop in guilt, surely taking on the weight of the world as he blames himself for Makaylas actions.
"It's not your fault." I tell him as we stand up and begin to make our way out of the stuffy cabin and into the cool evening air. I hear the sounds of wolves fighting nearby, but the noises are getting more and more quiet as the seconds go on.
"She could have died." James says, completely ignoring what I said, and I know that this is going to be something that's going to haunt him forever.
I place my hand on the small of his back as we make our way up the hill, walking up from the valley the cabin rested in and come across a small groups of wolves standing over furry bodies in the trees. I pause in my stride, my lip easing in a snarl at all the new scents bombarding my nose, only two of them familiar.
Turning my head slightly to the right I was as a gray and black wolf comes towards me, blood across his snout and coat but I ignore it as Alex comes to nuzzle into my side, sniffing me to make sure I'm okay. "I'm alright." I tell the wolf and he presses his nose against my side one last time before me goes towards James.
Once the Beta figures out who it is in James' arms he wastes no time is switching back to his human form. "It wasn't her?" He asks but it's clear he doesn't expect an answer as he looks down at the half dead girl hanging limply in my Mates arms.
"It was Makayla." James says and he whips his towards towards me in alarm and confusion. I nod my head in confirmation but I don't go to elaborate, wishing we were home already.
James hands over the girl to his friend and motions me over towards him as a man I vaguely recognize stands with him along with another. "Jessie, this is Alpha Lucas and Beta Cole. They're the ones that helped me come find you." He tells me, his arm coming around to hold me closer to him, and I let him, needing his touch and much as he does mine. I've never been rattled like I was today and it's not a feeling I would wish on anyone.
"Thank you so much." I say, nodding to the men and they return it with polite smiles.
"I'm glad we could help." The Alphas says. It doesn't take long before everyone is ready to go, and we split up in two groups, one that goes ahead in their wolf form and informs both packs that I'm safe and sound, and the other to walk in their human forms, taking turns to carry Jessica.
James and I end up in the second group along with Cole and one other person, while Alex and Lucas go ahead with the others.
Even in our tired state, and our human forms, we manage to make our way back to the Winter Moon pack lands in a little over and hour and by the time we step into the pavement outside of the woods, my body is spent and sore.
We find Alex and Lucas talking outside as they wait for us and the rest of the wolves immediately go inside, ready to wind down after a stressful day and I can't wait to do the same.
After another round of goodbyes and thank you's we finally make our way to the car. Alex takes Jessica and drives her away while James and I end up alone in his car as we try to mentally come back from the tragic day that happened. "What happened to your dad?" I ask him, turning my head slightly to see his reaction and I watch as his body tenses up, even his jaw before his eyes gather some tears that I don't expect.
"Bite to the neck. Didn't survive." He says and I frown in remorse.
"I'm sorry, James." I tell him and he scoffs at me, though even that noise can't hide the thickness in his throat.
"You shouldn't be. I'm not. I'm not going to miss that monster." He says but I see right through him and I sigh as I turn my gaze back to the path in front of us as we cruise lazily back home.
"He's still your dad. He still raised you, even if he didn't do it right. It's okay to mourn him." I tell him and he doesn't respond, and I don't need him to, settling my hand on his thigh in comfort. The rest of the ride is made of silence and I tried to prepare myself for a long night ahead knowing that my experience and story is going to have to be towed 10 times over by the time the night is through.
And as much as I hate the idea of reliving the moment where I thought I would die or the one where I thought I would have to lose James forever, I would rather go through that then to still be in the evil bitches clutches.
Yet another blessing the Moon Goddess has blessed me with.

A shorter chapter. I didn't really want to drag it. What do you guys think shift them finding Jessica? Do you think the story is still flowing right? I hope so since it ends soon.
