Chapter 3
Nightclaw opened her eyes. It had been a moon now, and sparkfang's words echoed in her head. "You're gonna be ok." She smiled. Sagepelt came over and fed her her morning herbs. Nightclaw lapped them up obediently.
"Someone's here to see you" she murmered, heading to the back of the den. Nightclaw shakily stood up.
"Guess who?" Barked a voice. Nightclaw sniffed sharply.
"Sparkfang!" She purred happily. The jolteon padded in.
"Oh come on." He grumbled, "you always get me!" He cuffed her around the ear playfully. "Hey, Sagepelt says I can walk you around the forest again today! Nightclaw smiled wider.
"Yay!" She cheered, "my legs could use a stretch." She hobbled out with jolteon. Her leg was mangled, from the root and the houndoom, rendering it useless. As she and sparkfang padded out into the clearing, eevees greeted them. Two espeon eating fresh kill by one another nodded their heads as the couple passed by.
Lightstar beamed as Nightclaw limped by. Sparkfang ducked his head in an embaressed way.
"Oh sparkfang, it's so beautiful in the forest!" Nightclaw purred. sparkfang gave her an amused glance.
"You sound like an elder!" He laughed. Nightclaw flicked her ears.
"I haven't been here for so long!" She smiled back." Sparkfang laughed.
"Wanna hunt?" He asked. Nightclaw nodded. They found rattata sniffing around the base of a tree. Nightclaw dropped into a hunters crouch, creeping forward and keeping her tail off the ground. She pounced, but her leg dragged along the ground, causing her to this headlong into the tree. The rattata squeaked in alarm and squrried away.
Nightclaw slumped down along the tree, her leg pulsing with pain. sparkfang made a weird face. He smiled, and put a paw over his mouth. Nightclaw narrowed her eyes. Sparkfang peeked at her. He burst out laughing. Nightclaw stared at him open mouthed.
"What the crap?!" She suddenly shrieked, jumping to her feet and storming off. Jolteon stopped and stared after her. A little ways into the woods, Nightclaw heard a pidgey hopping around in the undergrowth. Sparkfang was a few tail lengths behind her. Flicking her ear, she signaled for him to stay there. She slunk around the pidgey and suddenly shreiked. The pidgey squawked in alarm and flew right into jolteons paws.
"Nice catch!" Nightclaw chirped, anger forgotten.
"We're a good team!" He purred back. The two hunted for a while and managed to catch a rattata to make up for the lost one, and and a pichu as well. As they were heading back to camp, Nightclaw found a parchisaru sniffing around the roots of a tree. She dropped into a hunters crouch and slunk forward. She jumped at the squirrel with a yowl, landing squarely with her forepaws on its back, snapping its spine. She stood up triumphantly. The parchisaru was still alive! It weakly shot a surge of lightning at Nightclaw before dying.
"Ow!" Nightclaw gasped, her fur singed. Sparkfang bounded up to her side.
"Hey, are you ok?" He asked, concerned. Nightclaw nodded, and retrieved her prey. The two padded home with two pieces of prey in each of their jaws.
"Wait.." Chirped Nightclaw, her voice muffled from the prey, "let hunt some more." Jolteon gave her a quizical look, and shrugged.
"Ok." He said, not willing to argue with the prickly umbreon. Nightclaw and Sparkfang walked side by side. Nightclaw couldn't shake a feeling of suspense that made the fur on her back rise. She forced her fur to lie flat and continued on, her fur brushing sparkfangs.
"Listen," Sparkfang said somewhat embaressed, "I was thinking maybe, I mean... We love each other..... Right?"
"Of course!" Nightclaw purred, "continue."
"Well, maybe we could be... You know.."
"Mates?" Nightclaw finished for him. The jolteon blushed.
"Yea..." He said, licking his chest fur in an embaressed way.
"Yes.." Nightclaw whispered, pressing closer to him. They touched noses.
"Thank you," Sparkfang whispered back, the two were sitting now, "I love you." They leaned on each other for a second, muzzles touching, and gazing into each other's eyes.
"Okay, let's catch some prey and get back to camp." Sparkfang suddenly said. Nightclaw nodded, sad for a second that their moment had to end. Catching as much prey as they could carry (just one more each) the two padded back in the direction of camp.
Nightclaw admired the ferns, and the ivy climbing up the trees. Suddenly she stopped, ears pricked. Her fur rose.
"I hear something!" She hissed. Sparkfang looked at her in alarm.
"Are the houndoom back?!" Nightclaw shook her head, and Sparkfang let out a relived breath.
"Louder, heavier feet." Nightclaw mumbled, "....two leg!" She gasped. Sparkfang jumped, his fur fluffed up even more then it usually was. The twoleg pushed through the tall grass and faced them.
"A wild umbreon and a wild jolteon appeared!" He whispered to himself, "time to try out my new evolutions!" Umbreon gasped, ears back.
"No! A trainer!" She moaned. Before they could run, the enthusiastic trainer yelled,
"Chameleon go!" He threw the poke ball a few tail lengths away from them. The fire lizard sprang up.
"Charmeeeeleon!" He crowed.
"Chameleon, use ember!" Shouted the boy. The charmeleon shot a burst of flame at Sparkfang, singing him.
"Ow!" He gasped. He shot bolts of lighting out of his mouth. "Thunder shock!" He yelled. The charmeleon staggered.
"Charmeleon, use fire fang!" Spat the trainer. This time, the lizard leaped at the umbreon. His fangs suddenly burst into flame, and he sunk them into Nightclaw. She screamed in agony, blood spurting from the wound. Jolteon used thunder shock again, and the charmeleon fainted. The trainer groaned, turning, and running away into the undergrowth.
Sparkfang let the trainer go, and turned to Nightclaw, who was on her side, panting.
"Come on," jolteon barked, "lean on me.." He grabbed the umbreon by the scruff and hauled her to her feet. Leaning heavily on sparkfangs shoulder, she managed to stagger back. When they entered camp, Sparkfang gasped. It was deserted. Night fang suddenly gasped, sinking to her knees.
"Hello prophecied one" spoke a deep voice, "I've been awaiting you."
