Chapter 25

Nightstrike and Junenose watched Zapkit play with Littlekit, Thornkit, and Vulpixkit. Thornkit and Zapkit were play fighting while Vulpixkit chased a butterfree.  Littlekit watched Shadedleaf expertly pull a thorn out of Staticface's paw. Zapkit buffeted Thornkit's ear, and he squeaked indignantly, pouncing on the older eevee. Vulpixkit ran after the butterfree, straight into flareface. The elder stumbled back in surprise, holding back a hiss.

"Watch it!" he snapped.

"Sorry flareface." Vulpixkit apollogized, looking at his paws, but mischief twinkled in his eyes. He ran off, joining the fight against Zapkit. Thornkit jumped onto zapkit, but he thrust his paws up at the last moment, throwing Thornkit off. While his brother recovered, Vulpixkit stepped up to Zapkit.

"I am Sparkstar, leader of Lightclan! I will defeat you Nightstar!" Zapkit narrowed his eyes.

"No way, Nightclan is way better then Lightclan." he growled, playing along. Thornkit bound up to stand beside Vulpixkit.

"Lightclan's the best!" He snarled defiantly, and they both jumped at Zapkit, knocking him over, and slashing at him with sheathed claws.

"Oh no!" Zapkit wailed. Nightstrike started to step forward but Junenose held her back, amusement in her eyes. Thornkit held him down while Vulpixkit leaned down to speak to him.

"Admit Lightclan's the best!" He hissed.

"Never!" Zapkit yowled, throwing thornkit off and racing across camp, the younger kits hard on his tail. Sparkstar was sitting outside of  Zapkit stopped, and the other kits, bored, started wrestling. Sparkstar smiled slightly.

"I've been watching you." He purred, "You're going to be a great warrior." Zapkit beamed.

"Thank you!" he gasped, before turning and racing back across camp to Nightstrike."Did you see mama? did you see?" Nightstrike smiled.

"I saw." She bent down and licked him on the top of his head. "and I'm very proud of you." Zapkit beamed up at her for a second before racing off to tell Thornkit and vulpixkit. Junenose spotted littlekit still sitting and watching Shadedleaf.

"Littlekit!" She called, and patiently waited for the light colored eevee to bound over. "Why don't you play with your brothers and Zapkit?" Littlekit looked at her paws.

"Well.. It looks.. fun.. but i'd rather watch Shadedleaf!" She glanced at the medicine cat den out of the corner of her eye. Nightstrike and Junenose exchanged a glance. Littlekit looked miserable. "Sorry.."

"No No!" Junenose told her. "It's completely ok!" Littlekit looked up at her hopefully.

"You know," Nigthstrike added, "I bet Shadedleaf wouldn't mind a little hel-" before she could finish Littlekit ran across the clearing. Junenose shook her head and laughed. Nightstrike chuckled, but her face turned serious. She ruffled her wings. "Junenose, do you know what this means?" She asked her friend. Junenose turned to her.

"What?" she asked.

"She seems very interested in Shadedleaf. I think she might want to be a medicine eevee." Nightstrike explained. Junenose stood up.

"No! She's going to be an amazing warrior! Not some medicine eevee!" She hissed. Nightstrike stood up too, wings flaring in surprise.

"Some medicine eevee? She has saved many lives! You wouldn't have your kits without her!" She gasped, shocked by the anger burning in her friend's eyes.

"So?" Junenose snapped, "Warriors hunt, feed the clan, defend our borders, and keep us all safe!" Nightstrike couldn't believe her friend could be so dense.

"But Shadedleaf-"

"But Shadedleaf nothing!" Junenose snarled, tail lashing and fur bristling. "Littlekit will never be a stupid medicine eevee! She'll be the best warrior this clan has ever seen!" Without waiting to see Nightstrike's reaction she bound away, disappearing into the medicine den. She came out moments later with Littlekit in her jaws, hanging by her scruff. She stalked past Nightstrike and into the nursery. Shadedleaf had taken a few steps after her, but stopped, looking after Junenose. Zapkit, Vulpixkit, and thornkit were watching, eyes wide. Nightstrike pad over to Shadedleaf.

"I'm so sorry!" Nightstrike gasped.

"No, It's fine." Shadedleaf said calmly, though her tail was lashing.

"It's all my fault, I told her-"

"No," Shadedleaf interrupted, "It's not your fault that some eevees don't realize how important my work is." She turned and walked back into her den. Nightstrike sighed.

"Thornkit! Vulpixkit! Come here!" Junenose called, and they obeyed, running over to their mother, who swept them inside with her tail. Zapkit pad over to Nightstrike.

"W-What happened mama?" he asked.

"Nothing." Nightstrike sighed. "Come on, we should go to our den." The sun was setting and the patrols were coming back.

"But I haven't eaten!" Zapkit protested. Nightstrike realized she hadn't either, and she was hungry. She led Zapkit over to the fresh kill pile, making sure that the elders had already gotten prey.

"You stay here," She told Zapkit, stiffening as he started to select a Pichu. Zapkit paused, before choosing a bunnelby instead. Nightstrike grabbed a pidgey and went into the medicine den.

"For you." She told Shadedleaf, dropping the bird pokemon. Shadedleaf whipped around, startled.

"Oh, it's just you." she purred. "Thank you." She settled down, and began to eat. Nightstrike went out, selected a dedenne for herself, and settled down under the highrock. Sparkstar lay beside her, a tailow in his jaws.

"Something is bothering you," he observed, "what is it?" Gazepelt lay on her other side.

"Nothing." she closed her eyes. Gazepelt and Sparkstar exchanged a look, but Nightstrike pretended not to see it, savoring her dedenne. After they had all finished Nightstrike pad over to Zapkit, who was yawning. She carried him over to the nursery and set him down. She felt a paw on her shoulder, and she jumped, but realized it was only Gazepelt.

"Really, what's wrong?" He asked, concern in his eyes. Nightstrike sighed. She glanced at Zapkit.

"I'll tell you in the morning." She decided.

"ok..." Gazepelt reluctantly agreed.

"Goodnight." Nightstrike ushered Zapkit into his nest and curled around him.

"Goodnight." Gazepelt whispered, his voice echoing in her ears as sleep enveloped her.

It's been awhile! Sorry! There's been a lot of stuff happening in my family, my grandma had a very rare type of cancer. She passed away, and we're back home, so I should update more frequently. Hope you liked this Chapter!
