Chapter 24
Nightstrike looked around. Her eyes widened as she saw her mother, Nightclaw, padding towards her.
"Mother!" Nightstrike ran forward, pressing her muzzle into her mother's fur. Nightclaw licked her lovingly on the head.
"Hello my little one." She purred. Nightstrike looked up at her.
"Wait, does this mean i'm dead?" she looked down at herself, and realized with a jolt that she had stars in her pelt. Nightclaw nodded grimly.
"Yes, but it is not your time." her tone suddenly was serious. She stepped back, looking at Nightstrike. "Lightstar still lives." Nightstrike nodded. Nightclaw started padding away, and Nightstrike ran to catch up with her. Nightclaw led her daughter to a pool of water. The surface shimmered for a second before revealing Gazepelt weeping over her body. Zapkit watched from the bushes, eyes wide. Nightstrike gasped. It hurt her to see her mate so sad.
"Is there any way to go back?" she whispered. Nightclaw was silent. Suddenly two eeveelutions came out of the shadows, padding over to stand on either side of Nightclaw. One, the leafeon, Nightstrike recognized. "Sagepelt!" she cried. Sagepelt smiled.
"Hello Nightstrike." she purred. The other, a sylveon, stepped forward.
"I am Sunstar." he told Nightstrike, "I was the leader of Lightclan before you were born. Lightstar, who was Lightclaw then, was my deputy. She killed me and took my place." Nightstrike nodded gravely.
"I must defeat her." she hissed. Sagepelt looked at Sunstar, who nodded. Sagepelt nodded back, before turning to Nightstrike.
"The eeveelutions of starclan have decided to send you back, even though it is against the warrior code. We feel that the prophecy is important enough." Her eyes started glowing white. Nightclaw and Sunstar's did too. "By the power of starclan," Sagepelt spoke, "We send you, Nightclaw, back to the living world." there was a blinding flash, and Nightstrike squeezed her eyes shut. When she opened them, she saw forest.
"Gazepelt?" She whispered, feeling her mate pressed against her. Gazepelt pulled away and looked at her. The gash on her throat was gone, and her eyes were open.
"N-Nightstrike!" He gasped. "You're alive!" Nightstrike sat up, and looked at him lovingly. Gazepelt leaned against her, and she wrapped her wings around him.
"I love you," she whispered, closing her eyes.
"I love you too." Gazepelt purred, licking her shoulder. He pulled away reluctantly. "How'd you come back?" he asked, looking into her eyes.
"Starclan said it wasn't my time." Nightstrike told him gently. Gazepelt nodded, eyes shining.
"Don't ever scare me like that again." He told her sternly, but love shone in his eyes. Nightstrike nodded. She remembered Zapkit, and saw him out of the corner of her eye. He was peeking out of the bushes and smiling.
"Gazepelt, there's something you should know." Nightstrike whispered.
"What?" Gazepelt asked, cocking his head. Nightstrike looked back to where Zapkit was. Instead of a pichu, there was a tiny eevee sitting in his place. Nightstrike's eyes widened. Sagepelt's scent wrapped around Nightclaw.
"Zapkit can now live a life in the clan." the leafeon whispered. "Tell Gazepelt you found him, abandoned in the woods." Nightstrike nodded. Thank you. She thought, before looking back at Gazepelt.
"I have a kit." She pad over to Zapkit and picked him up by his scruff, carrying him to Gazepelt, who's eyes were wide in surprise.
"What?" He whispered. "W-who's the father?" disappointment flickered in his eyes.
"I dont know." Nightstrike said, setting Zapkit down. "I found him all alone in the woods."
"That's terrible, why would a mother abandon her kit?" Gazepelt shook his head.
"I know." Nightstrike nodded. "That's why I took him in. He's old enough to eat prey, so I've been feeding him." she looked up at Gazepelt. "I-I hope you don't mind.."
"Why would I mind?" Gazepelt smiled, looking at Zapkit fondly. "What's his name?"
"Zapkit." Nightstrike responded. the eevee looked up at her, hearing his name.
"That's wonderful." Gazepelt leaned down and licked the top of Zapkit's head. He straightened. "Let's get back to the clan." He looked at Nightstrike. "Does Sparkstar know?" Nightstrike shook her head.
"No.. Do you think he'll have a problem with it?" She frowned.
"No, What leader would have a problem with new kits?" Gazepelt smiled reassuringly. "All of the kits are apprentices now, although Junenose is expecting kits any day now." Junenose? Thought Nightstrike. Oh, that must be Junepaw's warrior name!
"Ok." She picked Zapkit up by his scruff. "Let's go." She didn't fly, but walked beside Gazepelt as the two trekked through the forest back to Lightclan. It took longer then Nightstrike was used to, but soon the walked into the camp. Sparkstar was sleeping in his den, in fact, the whole clan was still asleep. Nightstrike sighed. "I'll have to wake him," she mumbled through Zapkit's fur. Gazepelt shook his head. "You stay here." He disappeared into Sparkstar's den. Moments later, they both emerged, Sparkstar looked at Nightstrike, surprise in his eyes.
"You found a kit? What were you doing out of camp at this hour?" he asked. Nightstrike inwardly sighed in relief. Gazepelt didn't tell him about Lightstar. She thought.
"I was hunting." she lied, "You know I do that sometimes." relief flooded Sparkstar's gaze.
"Yes, I remember you telling me that. Your mother was the same." He purred, eyes distant, as if he was thinking of something.
"This is Zapkit." Nightstrike had set him down when Gazepelt was getting Sparkstar. He sat at her feet, playing with a bit of moss. Sparkstar smiled.
"He's strong." he observed. Zapkit stopped playing and looked up at Sparkstar, eyes wide.
"So he can stay?" Gazepelt asked, padding to stand beside Nightstrike.
"Of course." Sparkstar nodded, "And Nightstrike can stay in the nursery and care for him." He paused. "If that's what you'd like of course." Nightstrike's eyes were shining.
"Of course!" she purred. Sparkstar nodded. "You can go to the nursery now. Junenose is in there, so be careful not to wake her." Nightstrike nodded.
"Thank you." She picked up Zapkit and pad over to the nursery. Nightstrike curled up in an empty nest, Zapkit sleeping at her paws. "Goodnight," She whispered to Gazepelt, who had followed her in.
"Goodnight." He replied lovingly, before padding out of the nursery.
I hope you liked this chapter! I know it was mean of me to make it seem like Nightstrike was dead, but I couldn't resist :3 I hope you hate me less now that she's alive! And yea, Zapkit's an eevee now! See you in the next chapter!
