Chapter 15

Nightpaw woke slowly, but didn't open her eyes. What had happened last night? Oh right.. Psypelt had snuck in.. He had pinned Nightpaw against the wall, and shoved poppy seeds into her mouth. When she tried to spit them out, he forced her to swallow them with his mind. Before she passed out, she had seen psypelt grabbing Sagepelt roughly, and shoving her out of the den. Nightpaw realized that a strange scent filled her nose. It smelled like forest, but not of oak trees, it smelled like pine sap and moss. Nightpaw had a second realization: she was moving, something was dragging her by her scruff, and the something was talking.

"This is the prophesied one?" it was a male voice, muffled by her scruff, and it was one Nightpaw hadn't heard before.

"Well, she has wings. I think she is." came a second voice, female, also unrecognizable. Nightpaw kept her body limp and eyes shut. Twigs snagged painfully in her fur, but she willed herself not to wince.

"Darkstar will be pleased, but don't you think it would be easier to kill her now?" came the voice of the one dragging Nightpaw.

"No Mooneye, seriously? He wants to see how well she can fight!" Came the female voice. Nightpaw's mind was racing. She had been kidnapped by a different clan! The one named Mooneye stopped. He dropped her scruff, causing her head to bang painfully on the ground.

"Yeah well, she seems scrawny, Starstep." he grumbled disdainfully.

"SCRAWNY??" yowled the female, Starstep. "do you KNOW what those scratches are?!" Nightpaw creaked open an eye to watch. Mooneye shook his head, dumbfounded. Nightpaw's breath caught in her throat. They were umbreons. "They are ZOROARK scratches pichubrain. If she survived a Zoroark attack with only scratches, she must be made of some tough stuff." Mooneye nodded, deep in thought.

"When we heard the prophecy, we thought it must be one of our clan. Our clan is only umbreons Starstep, ah, except for that stupid Leafeon."

"Leafytail isn't stupid Mooneye!" gasped Starstep, "She's our medicine eevee! She's saved many lives!" Nightpaw was beginning to like her more and more, mostly because the umbreon voted for not killing her instantly, and said she was tough.

"Anyways," continued Mooneye, ignoring her, "We assumed that one of our little eevees would grow up to be a brave and powerful umbreon. But this?" he pointed scornfully at Nightpaw, "This thing was an umbreon probably from birth! She has wings! She is obviously the prophesied one, but how? How can the "shadow" be this whelp?" he snarled.

"Maybe we shouldn't kill her.." mumbled Starstep, "I mean, the prophecy clearly states, There will be a shadow, rising from the light to crush the spirit, we found an umbreon, shadow, from lightclan, light, and she has battle scars at so young, she'd probably be able to crush whatever spirit this prophecy is talking about."

"you're crushing my spirit!" laughed Mooneye, but Starstep didn't look amused. "Hey," Mooneye looked over at nightpaw and stared at her. Nightpaw shut her eyes quickly, but it was too late. "HEY!!" he roared. "She's awake! what do we do! I say kill her now!" Mooneye roared, pouncing at Nightpaw, claws outstretched. Nightpaw shot upwards, causing Mooneye to run into the tree behind her. He yowled in fury. Starstep couldn't stop it, a grin spread unto her face.

"Go prophesied one!" she cried happily, "Fly! fly back to your clan!" but Nightpaw paused.

"which way's back?" she asked. Starstep opened her mouth but Mooneye recovered and shoved her aside.

"Traitor!" he snarled to her, then he looked up at Nightpaw. "Come down insolent whelp!" he roared, "How much did you hear?"

"All of it!" snapped Nightpaw. She dove bravely down, shot between Mooneye's legs,  turned so she was flying upside-down, and raked his belly fur. She soared back up out of the howling umbreon's reach. Starstep had an idea.

"Prophesied one!" she cried, frantically pointing to a rock a little ways away. Nightpaw caught on, diving down and picking up the rock in her front paws. she struggled to fly back up, flying right over the dazed Mooneye's head, and.. BOOM. Nightpaw dropped the large rock, which hit Mooneye right in between his ears. Mooneye let out a small moan and collapsed. "Wow!" breathed Starstep.

"thanks for the pointer on the rock," Nightpaw purred as she flapped down to stand beside Starstep.

"You were amazing prophesied one!" Starstep prodded the unconscious Mooneye with a paw.

"It's Nightpaw," smiled Nightpaw.

"ok. Nightpaw. I like it. Nightpaw, we should get him out of clear sight.." Starstep shuffled anxiously. Nightpaw nodded. Starstep grabbed the large Umbreon's scruff in her teeth and dragged him towards the pine trees at the edge of the clearing they were in. Nightpaw followed, looking in wonder around her. Not an oak, ash, or birch tree was to be seen, just pine trees, and firs. The ground was moist and springy, not a leaf to be seen. Starstep dragged Mooneye over to some ferns. She shoved him underneath them.

"Ok.. now that I know I can trust you, what happens next?" asked Nightpaw.

"Best case scenario, Mooneye wakes up knowing nothing, you get home and I get home safely. worst case scenario-" The bushes rustled all around them and five large Umbreons sprang out, surrounding them. "That." Starstep gulped.

"Nice job." Lightstar congratulated Psypelt. "The two from Darkclan should get rid of her. Our plan of convincing Firefoot to let you guard worked perfectly. I'm glad the two got our message."

"How's the prisoner?" Psypelt acted like he didn't care about his leader's praise, but he puffed out his chest and sat a little taller.

"see for yourself. brainwashing her did the trick. She told me everything." Lightstar chuckled. Psypelt glanced over to the back wall of the cave. Sagepelt lay there, chained to the wall by a paw. "I found the metal rope thingy in the carrionplace. I put a large rock over it to secure it in place. When Sagepelt snapped out of it, she was trapped. Now she cannot tell any of us our plan" Lightstar laughed softly.

"I have followed orders, brainwashing the clan. They now think they never knew her. She is nonexistent. I found a rouge Leafeon by the twoleg place and implanted all Sagepelt's memory of herbs in her brain, I also named her Brambleleg. She thinks she has been the medicine eevee all her life, and the clan does too." Psypelt said proudly.

"Nice work espeon." chuckled Lightstar. She kicked Sagepelt in the ribs. The medicine eevee moaned softly and covered her head with her paws. "With the prophesied one out of the way, we shall be unstoppable!" she led Psypelt out of the den. Sagepelt groaned softly.

"Nightpaw..." she whispered.
