Sparkfang had never felt as scared in his life, besides when he saw Nightclaw's dead body. He had heard somebody calling his daughter's name. He had padded out of the den, to see Chillypelt calling Nightpaw. They always went out for dawn patrol. Something was wrong though. As Sparkfang ran over to Nightpaw's mentor, Nightclaw  passed briefly through his head. Sparkfang shook the thought away. He skidded to a halt by Chillypelt.

"what's wrong? Where is she?" he barked. Chillypelt stared at him.

"She's not there..." the glaceon whispered. Sparkfang let out a roar of despair and crumpled to the ground. The gengar , the gengar has come for revenge. It has taken away my love again! He thought mournfully, squeezing his eyes shut.

"What the?" He heard the night guard gasp. Sparkfang lifted his head. Glee and horror flashed through his body. Nightpaw was standing in the camp entrance, panting. Her tail was mangled, feathers were missing from her left wing, and her face.. Sparkfang gulped. Half her face was slashed open, blood still oozing from under the closed eyelid. Her good eye was wide and scared, and as it's gaze fell on him, that one eye widened.

"Papa!" she cried, rushing forward and burying her face in his fur. Sparkfang ignored the blood staining his yellow and white fur, he curled around her like he would when she was a kit. Nightpaw sniffled.

"my baby my baby," whispered sparkfang. Nightpaw smiled. She had hidden Zapkit in the tree hollow, and made sure the vines hid him all the way. She left him berries to eat. She had been scared of what would happen when she got to camp, but when Nightpaw saw her father's face, she knew everything would be alright. 

"What happened?" gasped Chillypelt. Nightpaw looked up to see that her mentor was standing over them. The question brought her back down to earth. She had been pondering what to say on her way there.

"I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't fall back to sleep. I smelled a weird scent outside of the camp, so i went to investigate. Good thing I did, because there was a hostile mightyena!" Most of the camp had gathered out now, and there was a collective gasp.

"Mightyena?! we must drive it away!" Snarled Sootywhisker.

"NO!" gasped Nightpaw, "see, when It saw me, it snarled and slashed it's claws across my face. I flew up frantically but it bit my wing, then my tail! But I flew out of it's reach and dive bombed it, slashing as much as i could until i drove it out of the territory." Clamfur trotted up to her and sniffed sharply. He narrowed his eyes at her.

"She doesn't smell like mightyena, she smells like berries!" He snarled.

"no, see, when I was flying back my wing was off balance," Nightpaw flapped her left wing weakly for effect, causing more feathers to flit down to the ground, "so I ran into a tree and fell into a berry patch." She had made sure to roll in a berry patch before she got into camp.

"How dare you doubt my daughter?" barked Sparkfang. "Are you suggesting she just ran out for fun? Do you think this is a joke?"

"Yeah Clamfur!" snarled Gazepaw, "do you think she would fake that?" The apprentice jabbed a paw towards Nightpaw's face. He glared at Clamfur, then turned to Nightpaw. he smiled at her sheepishly, and.. was he blushing? Nightpaw shuffled her paws and blinked thankfully.

"Attention! ATTENTION!" roared Lightstar. She bounded up the Highrock. "Let all eevees old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the highrock for a clan meeting!" She didn't need to yowl the summons, all of the clan was already gathered. Lightstar flicked her tail and sighed. "Enough fighting. I think that Nightpaw is right, she would surely not lie to her clan." Lightstar shot Psypelt a glance. The espeon turned to look at Nightpaw, eyes glowing. Nightpaw stiffened. Can Espeons read minds? Ah! Don't think that! uhh.. Think about pidgey, think about pidgey! Nightpaw realized her rings had lit up in alarm. She dimmed them, hoping none of her clanmates had noticed. "And surely," Lightstar continued, "Nightpaw would not fake the wounds on her face and tail. She has saved our clan."

"NONSENSE!!!" screeched Iceynose, "How could an apprentice save our clan?! an UMBREON of all eevees? She's had her eeveelution since birth! She has wings! She probably thinks this is all so funny because she's better then any of us! It's probably just berry juice and i'll prove it!" The glaceon  sprang at Nightpaw before she, or any other eevee could react. His claws were just aimed to swipe potential berry juice off, but they cut into the wounds, causing fresh blood to spray out. Nightpaw fell back with a cry. Iceynose stared at his bloodstained claws. "I was so sure.." he whispered, eyes wide.

"STOP EVERYTHING!!!!" Yowled a voice. Sagepelt stormed out of her den. She was furious. Way to make a dramatic entrance.. Nightpaw thought, but then remembered Psypelt might be probing her mind. Pidgeys Pidgeys Pidgeys.. She felt a paw on her side. Nightpaw looked up to see gazepaw. His eyes were locked on the blood dripping down her face.

"Nightpaw-" He was shoved aside by Sagepelt.

"Look what you're doing." The leafeon snarled at the eeveelutions around her. "You're literally tearing each other apart! I'd stay out of this, but when health is concerned.." She hauled Nightpaw to her feet. "Come on Nightpaw. I need to inspect these wounds." The leafeon led Nightpaw away from the astonished crowd, protesting Gazepaw, and grief stricken Sparkfang. Sage pelt sat Nightpaw down in a nest of soft grass. She was fiddling with herbs, her back turned. "So." she finally muttered, "Where were you really last night."

"What? I-"

"There are Zoroark scratches on your face and tail. Where were you last night." Sagepelt repeated, not turning around. Nightpaw was to astounded to speak. "Rest now," Whispered the Leafeon, pressing Poppy seeds into Nightpaw's open mouth. "We can talk when you wake up."

Psypelt padded into Lightstar's den. The Sylveon turned around slowly to face him.

"So," Lightstar growled, "tell me all of the prophesied one's thoughts." She chuckled, and her mouth twisted into a cruel smile.
