Uma's POV

My name is Uma and I am a ginger cat. I live in Hawaii in a town called Kokaua on Kauai island. I live with my two owners Nani and Lilo. They are sisters. Their parents died several months ago. Lilo is seven and Nina is nineteen, she is Lilo's guardian. She's always stressed out with having to support us all and with work. I try to calm her the best I can. But it's not easy.

Anyway right now Nani is making dinner for her and Lilo while I lay on the kitchen bench watching her. Suddenly the phone rings and I stretch trotting over to Nani as she answers it. I meow and she scratches my neck making me purr in content. "Aloha Nani speaking" she says. "She did what? Ok, I'll be there shortly. Have her wait outside for me please" she tells the person. She sighs hanging up.

I meow and rub my head against her hand. "Lilo got into a fight again, I have to go get her. You stay inside Uma" she tells me. I nod my head and she leaves forgetting to turn the stove off. I decide to have a cat nap and go to the living room. I jump onto the couch and curl up on a blanket falling into a light sleep.

My nap was interrupted by Lilo coming home by herself slamming the door. I look at her confused and meow. She jumps and looks at me scared. "Oh it's just you Uma, let me guess. Nani went to Hula school?" she asks and I nod my head. She locks the door and leaves the room. I decide to return to my nap and lay my head back down closing my eyes.

I hadn't even fallen back asleep when I suddenly heard bangs. I shot up and look at the front door. To see Lilo hammering nails into it. I sigh and decide to groom myself instead. As I obviously wouldn't be getting any sleep.

She soon finishes and plays some Elvis music laying on the floor. She looks sad. I jump down and walk over to her. I rub against her arm purring. She rubs my head and I curl up beside her. We stay like that until Nani comes home. We hear the door rattle and I look at it. "Oh, Lilo! Lilo! Open the door, Lilo!" she shouts.

"Go away" Lilo says and I stretch yawning. Nani sticks her head through the doggy door. I perk up and leap over Lilo heading towards her.

"Lilo, we don't have time for this" Nani tells her.

"Leave me alone to die" Lilo whines.

"Come on, Lilo that social worker's going to be here any minute!" Nani stress. I meow rub against her head. "Not now Uma" she tells me and reaches up unlocking the door. Then sees the nails in it. She groans and I nudge the hammer towards her. "Thanks Uma" she says grabbing it and starts to remove the nails.

"You are so finished when I get in there" she tells Lilo as I head over to the couch. I jump onto it and curl up watching them. "Oh, I'm going to stuff you in the blender push puree, then bake you into a pie and feed it to the social worker! And when he says, Mmm, this is great. What's your secret? I'm going to say..." her head suddenly disappears.

I look at the doggy flap confused. I jump off the couch and go to it. I go through it to see Nani talking to a giant man in a black suit. "The stupid head" he says.

"Oh... Oh, you know, I'm really sorry about that. If I'd known who you were, of course I never would've... Uh... I can pay for that" Nani tells him. I jump onto the railing and watch them.

"It's a rental. Are you the guardian in question?" he asks her. Oh he must be the new social worker Nani mentioned. He's not the usual type.

"Yes. I'm Nani. Nice to meet you, Mister...?" she asks.

"Bubbles" he says. I let out a small cat laugh and he looks at me. "Who is this?" he asks her.

"Oh my cat Uma" Nani tells him.

"I was not aware you had a pet, anyway. Are you going to invite me in, Nani?" he asks her.

"Uh... I thought we could sit out here and talk" Nani tells him.

"I don't think so" he tells her.

"Uh right, this way" she says pointing to the side. She jumps over the railing to go try the back door. Mr Bubbles follows her. While I go through my door and return to the couch. Nani soon finds a way in and turns off the record player.

"Hey!" Lilo whines as Nani rushed to the back door and let Mr Bubbles in. Lilo stands up and picks me up off the couch. We go to the kitchen to see Nani with Mr Bubbles. "I found that this morning" she states and the two adults look at us as she puts me down on the floor.

"Lilo! There you are! Honeyface... this is Mr. Bubbles" Nani tells her. Mr Bubbles kneels down to Lilo's level and offers her his hand to shake.

"Nice to meet you" he says. Lilo examines his knuckles thoughtfully.

"Your knuckles say 'Cobra', Cobra Bubbles" she says. "You don't look like a social worker" she tells him. I thought the same thing. I jump onto the table for a better view of what's going on.

"I'm a special classification" Mr Bubbles tells her.

"Did you ever kill anyone?" she asks him.

"We're getting off the subject. Let's talk about you. Are you... happy?" he asks her. Avoiding the question. Nani mimes things behind his back as Lilo talks.

"I'm adjusted. I eat four food groups and look both ways when crossing the street. And take long naps with Uma" Lilo says. Nani holds up a fist excited. "And get disciplined?" she says unsure.

"Disciplined?" Mr Bubbles asks her intrigue. Lilo continues, with Nani silently getting more and more frantic.

"Yeah, she disciplines me real good. Sometimes five times a day" Lilo tells him. Nani places her head in her hands in despair. "With bricks" she adds and Nani looks up in horror. Oh this is so amusing. I'm kind of glad Lilo ruined my cat nap now. Though hopefully this doesn't end badly for our ohana.

"Bricks?" Mr Bubbles asks her.

"Uh huh, in a pillow case" Lilo states and Nani covers her mouth.

"Ok, that's enough sugar for you. Why don't cha run along and play with Uma, ya little cutie?" Nani suggests. Lilo leaves the room and I follow. Lilo gives me a ball to play with as she plays with spoons and a pickle jar. I bat the ball around and chase it.

Until Nani and Mr Bubbles enters the living room. Mr Bubbles holds out a card to Lilo. "Call me next time you're left here alone with Uma" he tells her.

"Yep" she says taking the card. He heads over to the front door.

"In case you're wondering, this did not go well" he tells Nani. He opens the door and nails go everywhere. I hiss and jump out of the way, nearly being hit by one. "You have three days to change my mind" he states before leaving shutting the door behind him.

Both sisters look at each other. Lilo screams and runs for it as Nani chases her. I decide to go outside and leave them to it. I go out the doggy door and jump onto the railing. I see the black car leaving. Must be Mr Cobra Bubbles car.

I pray things get better. This is my Ohana. I don't want to lose it or it to become more broken then it already is. Since the death of Nani and Lilo's parents. I don't want Nani to lose custody of Lilo. But she only has three days to impress Mr Bubbles.

After today, that won't be easy. It may of been amusing to watch, but it's not what we need right now. We all need to stick together, it's what their parents would of wanted. I want our family to stay whole.
