First Day On The Job

Emma watched as the man stole bags filled with money and armed with a deadly gun. And she couldn't do anything about it. The bracelet had taken her powers away until she was back at the helicarrier. She watched as the police drove up and pointed their guns at the man. He had hostages and was yelling at the cops.

"Anyone of you takes a step I kill them!" He said with a wild look in his eye. Just then she glanced up and saw Peter coming. They didn't even need to send the entire team. Peter landed on the archway and began shooting webs and pulling people to safety. The man turned around and was furious.

"Sorry to crash the party." Peter told him.

"No!" He yelled, "I'm gonna kill you Spider!" He shot a web at his mouth and around his arms and legs leaving him squirming as the cops arrested him. Show off, Emma thought rolling her eyes.

Peter jumped down and walked over to her.

"Hey Emma. Listen, you didn't fail you just weren't used to it. Nobody becomes the best super hero in a day." He put his hand on her shoulder, "You coming tomorrow?"

"Yeah I guess."

"Great see you then." He jumped and launched himself away on a web. After all that drama the police were disarming the guy and pulling him down and arresting him. They drove away and gave the money back to the bank. She had never realized how hard it was for the people to fix everything after a robbery or an attempt. She just assumed everything went back to normal. She ran up the steps and saw the disgruntled people.

Jeez, this is awful. She thought. She walked the rest of the way back to her apartment. She walked up the steps to her floor and opened the door. When her mother told her they were going to live in an apartment instead of a house Emma thought it'd be like a hotel. It is the opposite. The rooms are small and the neighbors are really loud and mean. She walked into her room and sat on her bed. She let out a long sigh and rolled herself into a small ball. A thought came to her mind, Where's my backpack? She slapped her forehead. It was on the helicarrier.

"Dangit." she whispered. Stifling groans she lifted up her band and spoke. "Nick?"

"Fury here."

"I forgot my backpack."

"Well what do you want us to do about it?"

"I don't know send it down or something? Can you teleport it?"

"No. We can have to take a small team down to bring it to you."

"Can't you just send it to school?"

"Sure. We'll send it tomorrow to the school."

"But I have homework!"

"Well I'm sorry we can't bend to the will of a teenaged girl. We have more pressing matters."

"I'm sorry. You can't even give me my backpack after you violate my privacy by listening to every word I say, take away powers I never knew I had, and show my that I'm worthless the first day?"

"Yes."

"I'm not sure I even want to go back."

"Then this band can stay on as long as you like."

She groaned and slapped the band. Tracing her fingers around it she discovered something. A small pin shaped hole was right next to the speaker. It was very small so only a sewing pin could work. Luckily she had cross stitched as a kid and had a few pins lying around. She grabbed the small pincushion she left on her dresser and tried to unlock the band. She heard a small click as the band fell off. She took it in her hands and crushed it.

"Wow. I thought that it'd be harder to unlock." She said amused. She dropped it in her bag. She then looked at the clothes in her wardrobe. Baggy shirts, tight jeans, short skirts, and torn shorts. Most of the clothes she had were up-cycled from an old thrift store that had been run into the ground. She also had a battered old sewing machine that rattled dangerously with every use.

"Emma! Dinner!" Her mother called. Emma rushed into the kitchen. Even though it wasn't that far.

"Hi mom!"

"How was school?"

"Great." She lied.

"Anybody new?"

"Not really."

"Oh." She said looking mildly disappointed.

"Mom it's okay. I'm fine I have plenty of friends."

"Alright as long as you're okay."

"I'm fine." She quickly ate the rest of the food which was ramen noodles. And she disposed of the plate and went into her room. She missed her home back in Idaho. Sometimes she wonders why her family ever left, then she remembers her fathers relocation. Her mother has had to work many jobs but slowly they were getting back on their feet. Rent had been getting lower due to all the new apartments being built everywhere and competition increasing for our old building. But she did miss her home. Her yard. Not too big, not too little. The tire swing on a delicate branch the snapped a little more each day but still holding strong. The sun burning her nose bright red. But the longer she thinks about this world the more she finds it a dream. Fantasy characters and she happens to be one of them? Nonsense! But no matter how many times she pinches herself or splashes herself one face with water it is always true.

She has powers.

She is real.

And her reality is strange.

hi! It's me! I have been noticing while writing that I occasionally switch the pov so if you see like me or I or Emma speaking in first person instead of third please tell me I'll edit it immediately and do a once over of the chapter to make sure. So bear with me.
