Prologue Part One: The Prelude To Despair
(3rd Person's POV)
It was a bright and sunny day in Tokyo, Japan. A short young woman looked up at the school as she raised an eyebrow.
The massive high school towers over all the other buildings in this bustling urban area. The vegetation forms around the school like a barrier of some sort. It's like the school stands at the center of the entire world.
Hope's Peak Academy is a government-funded school of privilege that brings in top students from every field imaginable. They say that if you come here and manage to graduate, you'll be set for life. With hundreds of years of tradition, it sends the cream of the crop into the work force every year. It was built to raise hope in the nation's future. Which makes Hope's Peak a pretty fitting name.
There are two things you need to attend Hope's Peak... One, you have to already be attending high school. And two, you have to be the very best at what you do. No ordinary student could enroll here. The only way in is if you're scouted by the school itself.
And standing there at the gate of the ultimate school filled with the ultimate students...was her.
The woman ran a hand through her unkempt hair. This young woman...is Sora Shirayuki.
She was a small and pale-skinned young woman with a curvaceous build, bearing an... above-average chest and a sizable rear. Her facial structure and skin was very soft and smooth, as if she took a lot of time taking care of it, along with rosy pink cheeks, which makes it look like she's always blushing. She also had a beauty mark right below her right eye.
She had messy and unkempt golden blonde hair, which reached to her lower back. She had light blue eyes and an ahoge that resembled a heart. She wore a white t-shirt, covered by a light blue sweater vest, along with white wrist-length gloves, a knee-length rose pink skirt with white polka dots, dark-colored stockings and cyan blue Mary Janes.
This day was bound to happen sometime. She had a feeling that Hope's Peak has had it's eye on her for awhile now.
The title they gave her: The "Ultimate Volleyball Champion".
Honestly, it sounds embarrassing. But she's been doing it since she was a child and she's pretty damn good at it too, so she supposes it makes sense that they were to give her such a title.
But... Sora isn't exactly a "people" person. Having to be around tons of people every single day for who knows how long...it was complete torture to her. Because of that, she was thinking of declining, but when she heard that you were practically set for life once you graduate, she couldn't just pass that up.
Regardless, she had made up her mind. But...actually standing there in front of the school... She started to have second doubts about this.
But still, I can't just stand out here forever... Sora thought to herself while looking down at the acceptance letter clutched in her lazy grip. It said that there'd be a meeting for all incoming students in the main hall at 8:00 A.M.
Sora looked down at her wristwatch. The meeting isn't for a full hour but... It wouldn't hurt to be a little early, right?
I think it's best if I just went in...
With some reluctance, she headed into the school. But...the second she planted her feet into the main hall...
"Ngh!"
She felt a pain shoot up her head. Her sight started deteriorating as her vision became more warped and twisted by the second.
"W-What's goin'...?"
Those were the only words she managed to utter before she blacked out.
DANGANRONPA: TRIGGER HAPPY HAVOC
After an unknown amount of time...
...
...
...
"Mmm..." Sora groaned. She started regaining her consciousness. She lifted her head up to see herself on a wooden desk in an empty classroom.
Where am I...? Adjusting herself, Sora stood up from the desk. Stumbling a bit, she lost her balance before quickly regaining it.
She turned her head as the first thing that caught her eye was a surveillance camera.
That's not...too weird, I guess... They probably put it there to keep trespassers and weirdo's from wandering into the school...
Settling that issue, her gaze wandered again until it settled on...
"...What the heck...?" Sora found herself looking at two metal plates, bolted on where the windows were supposed to be.
She walked up to it and knocked on one of them three times.
Yup. Solid metal... Sora thought. But...what's it doing here?
Sora sighed. She's already confused as she is. The fact that there are metal plates on the windows like some sort of prison isn't exactly helping.
She checked her wristwatch to see what time it was. It said it was 7:45 A.M.
Has she really been asleep for just 45 minutes?
Shaking her head from her thought, she subconsciously walked over to the desk she woke up on, where she found a cheap-looking pamphlet with some sloppy handwriting. She picked it up and read it in her head.
"The next semester is about to start. Starting today, this school will be your entire world."
"...What." Sora flatly said. What the hell is going on here?!
Putting down the pamphlet, she started to think on what happened.
Did Sora...pass out or something? Maybe someone picked her up and put her in here...?
But if this really is Hope's Peak, then...
What are those windows about...? This is so weird...
"...Maybe I should just go over to the main hall...."
She walked over to the exit to the classroom and opened the door, where she was greeted with a hallway with a purple color scheme.
Wow! ...I hate it.
Rolling her eyes, she aimlessly walked around trying to find her way to the main hall. But as she walked, she felt a shiver go down her entire body. Like something bad was gonna happen...
She finally found herself in the main hall to see that most people were there. But it seemed like someone else was still missing, so she joined them, leaned on the wall, and waited until...
"Whoa, hey! Another new kid?"
Sora lifted her head up to see a normal-looking boy with brown hair and an ahoge that put hers to shame.
"Huh? Then you guys are all...?" The boy asked.
"Yeah... We're all new here. Today's supposed to be out first day of class." Someone in the crown of students answered.
"So counting him, that makes sixteen. Seems like a good cut-off point, but I wonder if this is everyone." Another wondered to themselves.
"Um..." The brown-haired boy started. "How's it going? My name's Makoto Naegi. Sorry I'm late. A bunch of stuff happened, and then all of a sudden I was just...asleep."
Sora tilted her head. Makoto? Is that a unisex name?
"Whoa, you too?" A relaxed man looked at him in surprise. He had really big hair.
"Things just keep getting curiouser and curiouser..." A Goth girl with drill-looking pigtails whispered to herself.
Is curiouser even a real word...? Sora wondered
"So strange... I declare beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is a strange situation indeed!" A...heavy-looking boy with glasses dramatically proclaimed the obvious.
"Um...what are you talking about?" Makoto asked them. "I honestly have no idea what's going on right now."
"Just a moment! There's something else we must address!" A boy with raven hair said as he aggressively pointed at Makoto. "Naegi! Your tardiness is unacceptable! Surely you were aware the meeting was to start at 8 a.m. sharp! To be late on your first day is unspeakable!" He yelled. "I must report you, and you must accept your due punishment!"
"Hey, aren't you bein' a little strict...?" Sora spoke up while sweat briefly ran down her head. Does something like that really matter, considering the circumstances...?
"Yeah, what's your problem? It's not like he wanted to be late. He didn't have any control over it." A blonde valley girl with large pig-tails defended.
"Everyone just calm down!" A cheery-looking girl told them. "Listen, why don't we all go around and introduce ourselves?"
...Do we really have to? Sora thought with a sigh.
"The hell!? Now's no time for friggin' introductions!" A vulgar looking boy with a pompadour yelled.
"Maybe, but it may be good to at least find out who we all are before digging into the bigger problems here." The goth girl said. "I mean, how are we even supposed to talk to each other if we do not know each other's names?"
"That's a good point..." A timid-looking girl with light brown hair agreed.
"Okay, so let's get introductions out of the way, then we can move on to whatever else. Sound good?" A blue-haired girl in a sailor uniform said.
Sora sighed. She hates talking to people, but I guess she doesn't really have much of a choice in the matter. She still doesn't know what's going on right now, but it's better to know who she's gonna be seeing in this place before we get into...whatever's going on.
She already knew who they are and could already guess what kinda people they are, but...I guess there's no harm in meeting them face-to-face.
...Fine. Let's get this over with...
