Chapter 30: Poisonous Possibilities

(3rd Person's POV)

After heading out of the rec room, Sora sighed to herself. She's seen all that she needed to in the crime scene, but...now where does she go...?

She began to walk around aimlessly around the fourth floor until she stopped. "Hm...maybe there's something in here." Sora said, turning to face the chemical lab.

Her mind made up, Sora pushed open the door and went inside. Once she did, the artist was greeted by the smell of random chemicals.

Thankfully, no one was there besides her. Good. That means she can get things done quickly...

Sora headed over to the shelves. It looks like three shelves have been connected together to make one giant shelf... But more importantly...

She leaned her upper body forward as she put her hands behind her back. Why is there all this powder in front of the shelves...?

"Well, whatever the case, I shouldn't step in it...don't wanna mess this up." Sora said.

She looked up and stood upright as she looked at the contents of the shelves. There are a bunch of dietary supplements and different medicines. The protein drink she found in the rec room probably came from this shelf... All the containers on this shelf are labeled with the letter A, and a number. So I guess she can consider this part of the shelving unit section A.

"Poyo? Hold the phone..."

There's one bottle here that's labeled CHEM C-9...! Who put this here...and why? Did someone just put it in there without paying attention...?

Sora looked to one of the other shelves. There are some reagents in there. They're a bunch of material used in experience to bring about a chemical reaction.

All the containers on this shelf are labeled with the letter B, and a number. So she supposes she could consider this part of the shelving unit section B.

But...other than that, there's nothing that could relate to the murder, so there's no reason to investigate it any further.

"Hm...Augh!" Taking a whiff, Sora's strong nose picked up the unpleasant smell of the third shelf. She groaned. It's nothing but lethal chemicals.

These look like poisons and other powerful chemicals. All the containers on this shelf are labeled with the letter C, and a number. So I guess I can consider this part of the shelving unit section C.

"But...maybe it's got somethin' useful for me." Sora mused as she investigated the section.

It looks like it's split into three sections. Section A has dietary supplements, section B has reagents, and section C has...lethal chemicals. Sakura must have gotten the protein powder from section A...

But in section A, there was a bottle of poison that must belong in section C. What's that doing there?

This doesn't seem right...

Truth Bullet: Chem Lab Shelf.

Sora would then look down at the powder. There's a broken bottle in front of the shelf. Is this where all the powder came from...? It looks like the bottle had a label on it-- CHEM C-4...

"Poyo..." Sora mused. "I doubt this was here before...which means...someone probably spilt it at the time of the incident..."

If what she's saying is correct, and it probably is, then this must be a clue.

Truth Bullet: Source Of The Powder

She then focused on the most important detail of the powder: All the footprints...

"But...how does this connect to the scene in here?" Sora wondered. Welp. Might as well create a sketch...

Sora closed her eyes as she created a mental sketch of the chem lab in her mind. It looked exactly like it, except it was in inverted colors.

Her Inner Self, also with inverted colors, looked at the mental lab.

Hm...it looks like the footprints only went to the first shelf... Sora's Inner Self spoke. They came in here, went straight to that shelf, did the dirty business, and left the scene...

Sora opened her eyes and looked at the footprints.

"Then whose footprints are these...?" Sora wondered. "They're too big to be mine, and I don't pay attention to the foot sizes of the others..."

Well, the prints looks to be in the shape of a pair of sports sneakers...and the only one who I can think of is... Sora widened her eyes briefly before grinning smugly. I see...but why? I doubt she's the murderer, 'cuz she seemed really close to Sakura, but...there's no questionin' that she played a role in the murder...or more accurately, how the crime scenes are presented...

Truth Bullet: Footprints In The Powder

DING, DONG! BING, BONG!

"...Oops! Ya caught me sleeping. Your investigation was just so boring, I couldn't stay awake! Should I do it? Is it okay? Can I? Can I can I can I? Okay, then let's begin the class trial! You know where to meet, right? Please go through the red door on the first floor of the school! Puhuhu. See you soon!"

The monitors then shut off. Already? She barely got any evidence this time around.

Sora yawned. "Ah well, that's too bad. But I'm not the only one who was investigating. I'm sure that Naegi and the others will do the rest of the work for me. At this point, there's no going back. Quel che sarà, sarà..." She said as she left the chemical lab.

After Monokuma's announcement, everyone began to meet up, one after another. And then...

"The ultimate martial artist! (ง'̀-'́)ง A locked room murder mystery! ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ" Monokuma exclaimed as he used emoticons.

"What the...?" Kyoko wondered.

Monokuma childishly chuckled. "Oh, I've just recently discovered the power...of emoticons! Like, no matter how awful something is, if you toss in a smiley face, it turns positive! For example... You're at a picnic and you find a dead body! (☞゚∀゚)☞"

"This is just plain creepy..." Hiro sweatdropped.

"And how about the reverse?" Monokuma asked. "No matter how great something is, if you put in a sad face, it makes it look super negative! For example..." He put his head down in faux-sadness. "Do you have a hundred friends? (ಥ﹏ಥ)"

"He's right! That does make it seem sad!" Hiro exclaimed.

"Now then, please get on the elevator! I'll see you all down there!" Monokuma disappeared.

"Wh-What the hell was that...?" Toko wondered.

"I don't get it..." Hiro folded his arms.

"I don't get you guys! How can you act so casual after murdering someone!?" Hina growled as she angrily glared at them.

"I-I...don't think I'm acting casual." Hiro muttered before shaking his head as he then narrowed his eyes. "Er, I mean...! I didn't murder anyone!"

"Yeah, I'm c-completely innocent... How d-dare you call me a murderer!?" Toko barked.

Hina scoffed. "Whatever..."

Sora rolled her eyes. "It doesn't matter. We'll find out what happened soon enough."

"Of course. Because there can be no doubt, one of us is the culprit." Byakuya said in agreement.

The culprit...that killer her. Sakura Ogami...she's one of the strongest people on the entire planet...

One of the students here...killed her for reasons unknown.

"Let's get this over with..." Sora's lips curved into a frown as she headed towards the elevator. The others then followed. They climbed into the steel prison in total silence.

The students watched the doors close and felt it begin its sinister descent. The elevator lowered, uttering its all too familiar clunking sounds. It fell lower, and lower... And as suddenly as always...the ride was over. The doors opened once again.

Once again, the colors of the trial room changed, with Monokuma sitting on the throne chair.

"Hmm... Just the seven of you, huh? Really..." Monokuma sadly sighed. "That's so few! You must be so lonely!"

"You say that like it's not YOUR fault we're all that's left!" Makoto yelled as he glared daggers at the bear.

Monokuma giggled. "I wonder, will the class trial end with one less classmate again? Or...will your school life come to an end completely? Now then, are we ready to begin? You know the drill! Find your assigned seats!" He ordered.

And so, the curtain opened for the fourth time...

A deadly judgment... A deadly deception... A deadly betrayal... A deadly riddle, a deadly defense, a deadly faith...

A deadly...class trial...!
