Build a Bear Workshop
Gabby's POV
I ran as fast as I could down the hall, rushing past other people and shops. I was currently in the mall, rushing over to Build a Bear workshop. I was really excited because today they were doing these new pokemon plushies I just had to get. I loved Build a Bear ever since I was a kid. I remember getting my first Build a Bear there. Sadly when we moved to a different town two years ago I had lost it in the move. It fell out of a box when the moving truck was moving our stuff.
I was devastated, and wanted to go back and get it. But my parents said I was too old for those kind of toys, or for any at all. So I gave up on toys and did other stuff. It definetly not a waste of time, because I started to love anime and video games so much. I remember though what that toy meant to me. It was a stuffed brown rabbit I named Rebecca, she wore a pink tank top and a hot pink skirt. Nothing fancy, but that was what was special about her.
Anyway, back to the present, when I heard there were pokemon plushies at Build a Bear, I just had to save up enough money to buy one. When I did, I snuck out of the house and ran as fast as I could to the mall. I was running so fast I would trip a few times and run into a bunch of people, earning smart ass remarks and middle fingers. Any who, I finally made it to the place and went inside. There were five pokemon to chose from: Pikachu, Charmander, Eevee, Squirtle.......MEWTWO! Oh my god Mewtwo was my favorite pokemon of all time! I picked up a Mewtwo, had it stuffed, bought it, and walked out of the store feeling like the peppiest rainbow in the world.
I was never gonna forget Rebecca, but I will treasure this Mewtwo forever. I sat on a nearby bench and took Mewtwo out of the box. He looked so cute. I hugged him tight and giggled. I loved being at least a little bit childish. I put it back in the box and stood up.
"Gabby?" said a voice. I looked to my right and froze. It was my boyfriend Ulric. What is he doing here? Oh that's right, he works at a shop in the mall. Crap! If he see's I'm carrying a Build a Bear he'll think I'm weird. I hid the box behind me and gave a nervous smile.
"U-Ulric, hey." I said. He came over and pecked my lips before smiling.
"What are you doing here sweetheart? You here by yourself?" he asked. I nodded.
"Uh yeah, I am." I said quickly.
"Did your parents let you out? I'm surprised. Its so late." Ulric said. It was around seven. When I left it was six.
"Uh yeah, they thought I would be fine." I said. I tried my best to keep my Build a Bear box behind my back. Ulric raised a brow and tried to peek over my shoulder.
"What's behind your back?" he asked.
"Uh, nothing." I said too quickly. Ulric smirked.
"Come on, what are you hiding?" he asked. He kept trying to look behind my back, but I would either move or try to keep his face in front of mine.
"There's nothing to see." I stated. Ulric gave a small frown, then he smirked again. In one quick movement he grabbed my arm and turned me around. I yelped in surprise, dropping the box. Ulric looked at it confused and picked it up, letting me go.
"Did you.....buy this?" he asked. I blushed brightly and snatched it back.
"N-No! Well, yes. I mean......" I said.
"Is it someone's gift?" Ulric asked. Perfect idea Ulric! Thank you! I smiled confidentally.
"Yes, its for my little sister. Her birthday is coming up." I stated proudly.
"Uh, didn't you say you were an only child?" Ulric asked. My heart sank. Crap, think of something fast!
"D-Don't be ridiculous! Of course I have a little sister!" I snapped. Ulric crossed his arms.
"I've never seen her at your house before." he said flatly.
"That's because, uh...she goes to a lot of sleepovers." I said.
"Okay, what's her name?" he asked.
"Uh......." I said. I glanced around the mall for something, then I spotted the soda machine and smiled.
"Dew." I said. Ulric blinked.
".....Dew?" he said. Crap that sounded stupid and fake.
"No sorry, not Dew.....Dewey! I just uh call her Dew." I said.
"Isn't Dewey a boy's name?" Ulric asked.
"My parents decided it not me!" I stated. Ulric was about to speak but I looked at the clock.
"Oh gosh, look at the time. I gotta go, by Ulric." I said as I briskly walked away.
"Gabby wait-" I pretended not to hear him and kept on walking. I walked and walked until I got home. I opened the front door with caution. It was completely dark. Weird, maybe they went to bed. I entered the house, and the living room lights opened instantly. My mother and father sat on the couch, glaring at me. I flinched.
"I-I can explain." I said. My father came up to me and crossed his arms.
"What were you thinking young lady?! Sneaking out at this hour!" he snapped. I flinched.
"What were you doing?" my mother asked sternly. My father spotted the box and groaned. H snatched it from me and pulled Meowth out.
"Build a Bear." he said.
"T-There were new pokemon, I-I had to get at least one-"
"You snuck out for a stupid toy!" my father snapped. I flinched.
"You stupid girl, at the least you could've bought something for an adult like you." my mother insisted.
"I'm sorry..." I said weakly.
"Your grounded young lady, for a month." my father stated. Small tears welled up in my eyes and fell down my cheeks. My father went over to the fire place.
"And no more toys either." he said. My eyes widened.
"No please!" I said.
"Silence!" my mother snapped. I stood there as Meowth got closer to the fire.....until there was a knock on the door. My father snarled and threw Meowth on the couch. I rushed over to him and hugged him tight.
"I'll get it." my mother said. She answered the door and found Ulric standing there.
Ulric's POV
I smiled.
"Hello Mrs.McLay." I said. She gave a friendly smile.
"Ah, Ulric. Um, can you come over another time?" she asked. I walked past her.
"No, I'd like to speak with Gabby alone." I stated. I spotted my girlfriend sitting on the couch, trying to quickly wipe tears away.
"Sorry, but if your gonna talk to our daughter, then you'll have to speak in front of us as well." Mr. McLay said. I shrugged.
"Fine." I replied flatly. I looked at Gabby. She clutched onto that little Build a Bear of hers.
"Ulric, I....." she said weakly.
"Go pack your stuff." I replied. Everyone looked at me shocked.
"What?" I said.
"You heard me, go pack your stuff. Your eighteen right? Your old enough to move out." I said.
"You can't just barge in here and tell our daughter to move out!" Ms.McLay snapped.
"And you can't just throw her brand new toy in a fire, which not only took a while to save the money for, but clearly means something to her." I said simply.
"Toys are for babies and children! They are not welcomed in this house anymore!" Mr.McLay snapped.
"And that's fine as long as she doesn't live here anymore right? Then she can actually be herself." I said. I looked at Gabby. She gave me a surprised look. I smiled at her.
"You choose Gabby, its not my decision. Whatever you choose I'll still love you." I stated. Gabby was silent for a moment. Then she stood up and started walking up to her room.
"Young lady don't you dare!" Mr.McLay snapped. She ignored him and went to her room. Then she came back down carrying a suitcase and her Meowth Build a Bear. She came to me and took my hand. I glared at my parents.
"I think this is better, you were always mean to her anyway." I replied. With that we left the house, leaving her parents speechless. We got into my car and we drove to my apartment. When we got there I led her inside and had her settle in.
"Sorry that whole episode happened, I never meant to separate you from-" I was interrupted by a hug around the waist. I smiled and hugged her back. She pulled away, small tears streaming down her cheeks.
"You knew I was lying?" she asked. I nodded.
"You were never a good liar." I replied. I rubbed her head. She looked down.
"So, you don't think its weird that I like toys." she said quietly. I kissed the top of her head.
"Of course not, I think its cute. Suites you actually." I said. Gabby smiled and sat on the bed, hugging her toy.
"Which reminds me......." I said. I knelt down and looked under the bed and pulled out a brown, worn out box. Her eyes widened when she saw her name labeled on it.
"What...." she said. I smiled.
"You said you lost a box during the move right. I found it on the side of the street a month ago, but didn't know for sure if it was yours. But after seeing you today, and seeing what was inside, I finally understood." he said. I opened the box and her eyes beamed with joy. It had her old Build a Bear in there, along with her other toys I didn't recognize. Gabby pulled all of them out and examined each one, then hugged her rabbit.
"You found them, all of them." she said. She smiled at me and hugged me tight.
"Oh thank you Ulric!" she said. I chuckled and hugged back.
"I'm just glad your gonna be here with me." I replied.
