After leaving Hogwarts, Miriam went to Ukraine to work with dragons, but more especially; the Ukrainian Ironbelly. There were a total of three Ukrainian Ironbellies at the sanctuary. The one they wanted Miriam to train and supervise was the larger male. She started off as an intern. Every afternoon when she was done having her lunch, the dragon she would eventually take care of would have his lunch. But to get him to cooperate was a whole different story. He always roared at the wizards and thump his tail loudly, creating craters.

During Christmas in 1991, Miriam went back to the Muggle world to visit her parents. They knew of her profession, but they didn't like it. They tried to support their daughter, but dragons were dangerous. They thought 'Our daughter's a witch! She could have been anything, but she chose to work with dragons!' It was tense that Christmas, but Miriam didn't talk about the Wizarding World or her job. Instead, she was forced to talk about her love life because of her mother. Needlessly, she didn't have a love life.

During the early part of 1992, almost seven months after graduating Hogwarts, Miriam was finally allowed to take care of the Ukrainian Ironbelly she was assigned to. She learned that his name was Neel, he had an appetite for live cows, he loved scaring off other dragons regardless of the species, and he hated female dragons. He was one of the only dragons to not want to mate. He kept his hormones in check and he just hated being around other dragons. With Miriam first met him, she was very excited, while others were terrified for her safety. Of course, the other wizards kept a close eye on her at first. To get into any dragon habitat, an authorized witch or wizard needed to put in the code. Whenever a dragon wanted to go flying around the course, an authorized witch or wizard needed to swipe their ID card into the scanner, so that the electric shields could go down.

In the summer of 1993, two years after she graduated Hogwarts, Miriam finally earned Neel's respect. At first, she was shy of him because she had never taken care of a dragon like him. Sure, she didn't care when she beat Merula up and almost got sent to Dumbledore's office, but she did care about what Neel thought of her. And when Miriam grew out of her shy shell, Neel was pleasantly surprised.  She scolded him one day when he was giving her attitude. Neel didn't like that, so he sat up straighter and blew smoke from his nose into her face. Miriam didn't like that, so she scolded him more and threatened to take his live cows away and shove a female dragon into the habitat with him. Neel did not like that. Because he was the biggest dragon, female dragons always wanted to mate with him. Since that day, he listened to her.

Miriam attended the Triwizard Tournament. When she attended Hogwarts, they didn't have one, so she was very excited to watch it, especially the task about dragons. She had also never met Harry Potter, so she made sure to congratulate him and introduce herself. She just missed Charlie, as he had to go back to Romania right after. When Miriam left, Ron came out of hiding frantically and clung onto Harry.

"Merlin, Harry! That was Charlie's ex-girlfriend!" Ron exclaimed.

Hermione looked at Miriam's retreating figure. "She's pretty."

Ron nodded. "Damn straight. Charlie used to bring her over all the time during breaks. They dated for four years, but broke it off."

"Why?" Harry asked.

Ron shrugged. "Somethin' 'bout Ukraine."
