ive never really considered myself a hardcore feminist person, but one point ive become increasingly aware of is the stigma that goes with periods.

its just...strange that periods are sometimes seen as something inherently vulgar or inappropriate for a young audience, despite it pretty much being the same as any other toilet humor.

i dont think it's wrong to be uncomfortable or squicked by the concept (especially with guys), but treating it like a dirty word just isnt the way to go about it

however, lemme say: there are tasteful as and distasteful ways of talking about the subject. screaming in detail about the bleeding flaps of your vagina is socially weird, but just saying "yeah i started this morning so idk if i can make it to dinner, i feel bad" isnt wrong at all

like, a couple days ago, a friend of mine awkwardly shuffled up to me and my friend and quietly and shamefully asked if she could have a pad. and it just kinda hit me. like, that shouldnt have to be embarrassing! but, strangely, we all have that phase when we're younger? im not sure if it's a social thing or just general puberty awkwardness, but it's odd. whispering "pad" like its a swear word is...weird, yall. literally 1/2 of the population buys and uses them.

and like, somehow, you never see periods mentioned in shows aimed at preteens (or at least i didnt in my day). despite it being plots about "relatable things preteens go through"

or, when it is mentioned, it goes straight into nasty, distasteful content (looking at you, big mouth and your talking vagina)

in general, can ppl chill
