I flipped through my box of belongings situated on the floor. My little library nook hung around me, soft warm twinkling lights shining from above. My hands shook as I unpacked the contents of the little box. I had gone with little and come back with much.
I had gone with little heart ache.
I had returned with much.
I grabbed my lips between my teeth and closed my eyes tight to hold back tears. Some slipped through and I felt their hot trails on my cheeks. A shuddering gasp shook my body as I placed a picture of Peter and me on a shelf. I ran a hand over his face. He was looking at me like I was his world. He held me in his arms and I was laughing, free of worries or hurt. I forced my blurry vision away and back to the box.
A neatly folded sweatshirt was next, a deep navy blue. A sigh and I wiped my eyes with a sleeve. The sweatshirt was pulled from the box and I held it before me. It was a simple blue sweatshirt, which zipped up the front. I flopped backwards, laying on the floor, hugging the sweatshirt close to me. It smelled of Peter and the memories we shared. I closed my eyes, only to see his smiling face with curly hair.
I awoke to the sound of someone knocking on my door. I sat up rubbing my eyes as Dee peeked his head in my room. "Hey, kid. Tony ordered pizza. Also..." he pulled his gaze away from mine and sighed. "Peter's memorial service is tomorrow."
"No. His is next week." I grumbled pulling the sweatshirt into my lap. My voice was hoarse and low.
Dee shook his head. "Not Peter's per se, but one for Spider-man. New York City wants to remember and honor their hero." I saw the pain I felt reflected in his eyes as he met mine. He hesitated, then left, closing the door softly behind him. I ground my teeth together.
"Oh Webs. What are we going to do without you?" I let out a long breath and rubbed my face.
Suddenly, I shot up straight and I smiled wide.
I had an idea.
I threw open the door to Tony's lab, a smile spread across my face. He sat hunched over his desk and tilted his head at my arrival. "Hey Runt! I haven't seen you out of your room in a while. How you feeling?"
I shuffled my feet and looked down at Peter's navy sweatshirt in my hands. "I'm... better. I think." My hand found the little blue necklace that T had made me oh so long ago tied around my neck.
I scooted over to him slowly, sitting down on the table after he wrapped me in a tight hug.
"I have an idea. I think you'll like it."
A smirk crossed his lips and he raised an eyebrow. "I'm all ears."
The smirk was contagious. "Does your nanotech still work?"
