Izuku wandered along the streets, checking the list in his hand. He was out to get groceries while his mother was at work. "I wonder if I could bake a pie for mom" he thought to himself, entering a small shop. He paid for the dairy items and huffed softly. Izuku hated shopping.

On his way back, he decided to stay for a while at Dagobah beach and see if he could do something different. As he walked down the neat roads, his eyes caught someone by the beach, a little too close to comfort given their hunched and sad body language. A few steps in and he heard sniffles from the figure. Sighing, Izuku placed the bags on the almost flat rock and approached the figure.

"Excuse me?" He called softly "are you alright?"

The person didn't even look up but mumbled something that sent Izuku into a panicking frenzy.

"My baby… water… drown"

Without a second thought, Izuku quickly jumped into the water and started looking around like crazy. He needed to catch a glimpse at least. The water was muddy and he couldn't see very well. Maybe if he could identify the baby with something- the colour of its clothing or anything!

"MISS!" He shouted "I NEED YOU TO TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT THE BABY SO I CAN FIND IT"

The girl jerked and her unique yellow eyes seemed to adjust like a… zoom? She quickly got to her feet and shrieked "BEHIND YOU! THE BLUE PANEL!"

"Panel?" Izuku turned around and found a piece of junk but pulled it nevertheless. If she said it then maybe it was connected to the baby? Weird. To his surprise/horror, it was a drone. He looked at the girl to find her face flooding with relief but he was still panicking "MISS! I GOT IT BUT WHERE IS THE BABY??"

The girl didn't seem to pay heed to his words as he practically lunged forward and snatched the drone from his hands. She cooed the drone… SHE COOED THE DRONE as she held it close to her chest. What in the world-

Izuku gaped like a fish before walking out of the water and looked at the oblivious woman who kept muttering rather loudly.

"- place the transistors on the bottom of the panel and maybe change the wiring. Oh! I need to get some new solar panels or no, maybe I-

"Miss?"

"-could make- nah, my baby needs the best but- yes I'll take the panel from baby no.67 and- no baby no.73 should do. It's a failed- "

"EXCUSE ME! MISS! CAN YOU HEAR ME?!"

"Oh shut up! Stop screaming! I'm busy" the girl who had pink hair and steampunk glasses, as Izuku now observed, snapped.

The greenette gave her an incredulous look "Wha- hold on! What about the bab- what even is- what the heck is happening?!"

The girl looked at him as if he grew two heads. "What? Oh yeah!" She seemed to realise "You're the guy who saved my baby!"

"I- baby- wha- miss?! What the heck are you talking about! That's a fricking drone! Where's the baby?!?!"

Her eyes glinted dangerously for a moment and Izuku dared to hold his ground "Look, Mr. Bush, do NOT insult my baby" she growled before looking at the wet drone with motherly affection. Izuku needed a nap.

"S-so… that's your baby?" Izuku asked carefully "the….. drone?"

Her eyes snapped to him and a huge grin spread on her face "Oh yeah! This is baby no.96! Also, thank you for saving it!"

Izuku blinked.

And blinked again.

"Miss" he took a deep breath to deal with this calmly "I don't think you have any idea how much panic you've caused me.-" blunt "-From your words I thought that a Legit Baby-" he raised his voice a little "- had drowned! What were you thinking?!"

The girl looked at him with a raised brow "Mr. Bush-"

"I have a name"

"-my inventions are my babies-" Izuku sighed. This girl is crazy! "-also, what's your name?"

"O-oh! How rude of me. I'm Midoriya Izuku" he introduced himself, a blush of embarrassment spreading on his face.

"Cool, Hatsume Mei" The girl, who seemed to be dressed in short greasy overalls and a black tank top, just checked her 'baby' casually while replying.

Izuku scratched his head in confusion. This was awkward. "Uhm.. you- did you build the drone?"

Her eyes sparkled again. She really loves her 'babies'. "Oh yes! This is baby no. 96! It's a solar powered drone that can release mini cameras from the opening at the bottom and can record infrasonic sounds too! I've added individual trackers in each camera but it turned out to be too much work and confusion so I planned to connect all the cams to a single tracker but with different visuals. I tried working it's flight today but the jets lost their power mid-flight and I couldn't control it with my remote so I had to chase it down here but it was too high for me to catch. It flew over the beach and crashed into the water after exploding and then I thought I lost it but you jumped in and saved my baby!" She chirped with a crazed grin.

Izuku really needed a nap.

"So, Hatsume-san-"

"Just call me Mei, dude"

"-Mei-san-"

"Too much respect"

"-Mei-chan-" Izuku pressed firmly "- do you plan on getting into UA's support course?"

Her eyes sparkled again. He needs to get used to this. "Of course! I want to enter the support course where I can make so many babies and display them during the sports festival! Then everyone will get to see my babies and they'll want them! They get these babies from the one and only Hatsume Mei! Future CEO of Hatsume industries!!"

"Hatsume…. Industries?" Izuku pondered before biting his tongue realising that it didn't exist yet. She wanted to set up a support company.

He looked at her and thought for a moment "um, Mei-chan? How many bab-" that sounded wrong "-inventions have you made so far?"

"Oh this is baby no.96 and I have baby no.97 coming up! So that's 97 and 109 if you count the failed ones"

Maybe she could help him out? "I am, um, planning to learn about support items as well in addition to the Gen Ed syllabi. Actually, I've started but it's kinda hard to just learn from the internet"

She stopped wiping the water off her baby and looked at him "You aren't applying for the hero course?" Izuku shook his head and Mei frowned "dude, with your physique and attitude, you'd make a good hero. Don't Cha think?"

"Um… thanks" Izuku mumbled.

"Tell ya what" Mei chirped with a big toothy grin "you tell me your quirk and I'll make you customized babies that you can use!"

Izuku stared at her for a second before gasping softly "You'd do that?!"

"Mhm. Of course! You saved my baby and you can advertise my other babies too!"

"Wha- you know what, nevermind. Also, I don't have a quirk"

He expected Mei to look at him in horror or disgust or shock but she just hummed.

"Mhm. So, what are you going to use? A knife? No, a taser?- mediocre. How about stun batons? Possible but not long range. A gun? Possibly a low radiation lazer? Enhancers? Risky. You don't have a quirk so can't depend on them. Well, gotta look into it!"

Meanwhile Izuku just stood there, wondering if this was really happening. He told someone he is quirkless and they didn't flip off?! Now he knew he needed a long nap. Mei looked at him and grinned "How about you come down to my workshop tomorrow? We can plan on your weapons and make babies together!"

Izuku was about to scream but he realised what she meant and sighed. "Alright, Mei-chan. Where is your workshop?"

Mei took his phone from the ground where he had dropped it before jumping into the water, shoved it in his face to get it unlocked, snatched it back, saved her number, texted herself, took her phone, saved his number, texted the address back and shoved the phone into Izuku's chest, the smile never leaving her face.

Izuku sighed and smiled. He must get used to her craziness. "Thank you, Mei-chan. I'll be there around 3pm if that's okay with you"

"Oh sure! We can work on so many new babies! Kay, gotta go! Bye Izuku-chan!"

And she was gone. Izuku picked his bags up and started towards home. Mei volunteered to help him! He could learn so much from her! Wait… they exchanged numbers and she didn't hate him… did that mean? HE MADE A FRIEND!!

He was so happy that he had a real friend in almost 10 years! Sprinting into his home, he hopped onto the couch and texted his mother that he had made a friend. He spotted the group chat and a smile spread on his face. Maybe he could share this news with the good people too!
