All one could hear was the sound of metal clashing and pained shouts. No one took notice of the pink-haired kunoichi who laid behind a boulder, wounds littering her body, broken bones digging painfully into the rocky ground.
Her breath grew labored as she lost more and more blood. Her dull green eyes, once a glittering jade, stared at the ash laden sky. Yes, Sakura Haruno knew she was going to die.
'Dead at twenty, oh joy.'She thought. Not like there was much to look forward to even if they did win the war. The villages were destroyed, her Shishou was dead, countless civilians had died and the few that remained fled to the Land of Iron, which was under lockdown. Not even Madara could get in.
"S-Sakura." Her dull green eyes met swirling crimson orbs full of shock and horror. It was Sasuke.
"S'ske." She didn't even try to strain her voice, there wasn't much of a point. She watched the man she pined after for most of her life as he kneeled next to her and took her hand.
"You won't make it will you?" He actually sounded sad. He had just regained his senses, and he and Sakura had developed a comfortable respect for one another.
Sakura just smiled sadly. "M'ready t' go."
"SAKURA-CHAN!?!?" A whiskered blond leapt over the boulder, tears streaming down his face. He reached out to heal Sakura, Kurama's golden chakra enveloping her wounds. Sakura shook her head slightly, ignoring the massive pain that simple movement provided. She circulated the last of her chakra to block the golden chakra from healing her wounds.
"No. M'ready to go." She didn't want to hurt them by saying she preferred death over them, but they didn't need a distraction like her stopping them from winning the war anyways. She was too weak to be of any help.
"No, Sakura! Dammit let me heal you!"
Sakura shook her head again, coughing up blood as her breath shortened. She could feel the last members of her team arriving, and wanted to at least see them one more time.
"Sakura!"
The medic smiled, " 'ey Sai, Yamato-t'chou, K'shi-s'nsei." Her voice was thick and slurred, blood dribbling down her chin. The three newcomers took in the sight of the female of the team splayed out, tattered and dying. Kakashi stared up at the sky, tears sliding down his face, his mask growing damp.
Yamato sat next to Sasuke, who still held the medic's hand. Her eyes were glazed, dull, but her heart still beat, however irregular. Sai stared down at Sakura, feeling conflicted. He felt strong negative emotions, and when he felt his face, he looked at his wet fingers in shock.
He was crying.
"Ugly, why would you go and die?" He asked. Sakura blinked slowly, and huffed a laugh, wincing at the pain. "M'redy. Goo-goodbye Sa-su-ke, Naru-to, Sai, Yama-to-tai-chou, Ka-ka-Kaka-shi-sen-sei." She carefully sounded out their names, fighting off the wave of pain that came with doing so.
She closed her eyes. 'I'm ready to die.' She thought.
But somewhere deep inside her, a voice whimpered. 'No I'm not...'
Her teammates watched her chest rise one last time, before she became still. Naruto spun and punched the boulder they were behind, shattering it. "She didn't deserve this." He murmured. Sasuke just stared at the hand he held, feeling it grow cold in his grip.
Sai felt an emotion he had been feeling a lot lately, especially after Ino died. Anger. He wanted to hurt the person who did this to Sakura.
Team Seven stood with a renewed determination. They were going to end this war today. For Sakura.
