Previously on The Final Call...

It was silent upon entry so I didn't sense the presence of anyone else.

I was so wrong

______________
_____
       _____

The door was forcefully shut and I was pushed out of the way. My gun ending up out of my grasp along with Taehyung's hand.

"Ahh! Kaz-"

"Taehyung- shit let him go!"

I yanked of my blindfold to see a random stranger holding Taehyung by the throat with a gun of his own pressed to Tae's temple.

"I was hoping you would come along. It's about time I got rid of some you disgusting Seekers,"
He seethed, pushing his gun further into my friend's temple.

"I said to let him go you ass. He's normal we both are!" The barrel of my gun was pointed at the unknown assailant.

Taehyung was terrified as he stood immobilised with tears threatening to spill from his eyes.

"I'm not falling for that bull," he insisted while clicking the safety off his gun.

"Just stop. Did you even hear what I said?"

"I heard, but I don't believe you,"

"What do you want me to do to prove we're harmless?"

"Drop your gun,"

"I-"

"Drop. It."

I cursed under my breath, dropped the gun and raised my hands.

"Kick it away,"

I glared at him before doing so.

"Now let him go. I did what you asked,"

"Fine. Just let me check your friend here. You toss me your backpack and sit with your hands in front of you,"

Taehyung visible stiffened when the stranger searched him.
I felt pity for my terrified friend. I promised I'd protect him and I'm already failing.

This thought ran through my head as I hesitantly tossed my backup to the stranger.

"Sit over there with your friend on the floor," He said "And if you even think about moving I won't hesitate to shoot you both in the head. And keep in mind that I never miss,"

As soon as Taehyung was near me I trapped him in a hug and held his head to my chest.

"I'm so sorry Taehyung," I mumbled into his hair. The sound of his sniffles were captured by my jacket as he hugged me tighter.

"Damn he's a pussy," The insensitive stranger mumbled. I glared daggers at him to which he rolled his eyes at and tossed our backpacks at my feet.

"Well looks like you actually are normal, but that doesn't mean I won't be keeping a close eye on you guys,"

__________

"Toss me a can of red beans Kaz," Taehyung voiced.

He was back to normal now and we were getting the food supplies we needed before we started on our no doubt perilous journey.

The stranger was more relaxed after seeing our behaviour and interactions with each other. We even managed to strike up a conversation between the three of us.

Jin

Was his name. Despite his previous attitude the purple haired marksman was actually a cheery person who happened to know more than enough Dad Jokes.

"Why did the banana go to the doctor?" He asked, giving me some bottles of water.

"I don't know. Why?"

"Because he wasn't peeling well!" He laughed out. I chuckled at both his joke and his laugh that sounded the same as a windshield wiper.

"Jin you really are something else," Taehyung said.

"Oh there is more where that came from young man,"

"Jin I have a question. How did you escape?"

His smile faded and he cleared his throat. Then he sighed and continued to walk down the isle with us.

A pang of guilt hit me. I should have known better than to ask such questions.

"Jin you don't have to tell me anything," I said.

"No. It's better to get this off my chest,"

____ Flashback ____

I was with my Father when it all happened. He used to be a soldier and fought in the Vietnamese war. During the war he got injured, lost a leg and developed PTSD. My mother got sick and passed away so she wasn't around so my father's friend and his family took care of me.
The pandemic happened five months after he returned. I woke up one night and found him wrestling someone with a knife. I know now that the psycho was a Seeker and my Dad was trying his best to defend himself.
He taught me how to use a gun so I did what I thought was best. I shot the bastard in his shoulder and neck.
About two weeks later we stumbled upon a small camp. It was hard to get in because of all the Seekers running around so we were easily labelled as one. That was until they checked our eyes.
We stayed there for three years and survived off robbing grocery stores. My Dad taught me more about shooting until I was so good at it I was dubbed a marksman.

He was so proud of me.

He paused for a moment and released a shaky breath before continuing.

One day one of the camp refugees let in some Seekers accidentally. It was a massacre.
My father and I were lucky to make it out alive, but my father was badly injured after fighting one while on the run.

We were crossing a bridge to get to the other side of the town and more Seekers caught up to us. My Dad risked his Life to save me. He pushed me to the safer side of the bridge and cut the ropes with both him and the Seekers on it.

____ Flashback Ended  ____

"I've never cried so much in my life. I'll never forget what he did. I'll never forget what they did. All Seekers need to be killed. Every last one of them," He roared and slammed his fist on a shelf, knocking over a bottle of wine in the process.

"Jin?"

He turned to face me with a trace of anger and sadness on his face.

"We are crossing the Han River. If you don't want your father's sacrifice to go to waste I suggest you come with us," I said while fixing the strap of my backpack.

"The Han River? You're crazy. You'll never make it there the Seekers would make sure of that,"

"It's still a better idea than waiting to be killed here. We might no we will make it. I hope you reconsider. Come on Tae we need to go now,"

A/N: Flashbacks will occur often throughout the book. They are a continuation of the characters pasts.
