Expectations
Mariah sat on the edge of her bed. Her face stained with her tears that she cried. She couldn't help but face the fact that not only had she acted a fool and embarrassed herself but in the process she had reject Tywin's offer to be married to his cousin's son.
Something that nobody in their right mind would have or should have refused.
Still she had done just that.
And then as she sat there in that proud red Lannister coloured dress that Tywin had been so gracious as to give her to wear after her clothes had become worn and insuficent to be seen in as his cupbearer the door to her chambers opened.
When she glanced over her shoulder she had expected to see her father entering her room angry, or even Tywin coming to her to explain things, but it wasn't either of them.
"Tyrion?"
She questioned seeing the little man walking into the room. He looked worried as he crept closer to her.
"My lady, I seen you running through the halls... are you alright? Why are you crying?"
His question caused her to sit up on the bed and rub her nose with the top part of her hand.
"I'm to be legitimized and then married off to your father's cousins son."
Tyrion arched a brow. This was news to him. He hasn't even known his father had any plans for Mariah after he had threatened to take her head had he not stayed away from her.
"My lady -- "
"I am no lady, Tyrion!"
She snapped, crying again. Tyrion frowned deeply as he moved to her side. He took her forearm into his hand before moving to embrace her better. She sobbed into his shoulder and neck.
"It's not as bad as it seems at least." He stated attempting to lighten the mood. "It could be my father you'd be marrying."
Mariah only sobbed harder which confused Tyrion greatly. He didn't know such an image would cause her to do so.
"You'll be alright Mariah. It's -- "
"But I don't want to marry this man! I haven't even met him! He doesn't know me! What if he is odd or mean! What if he's an idiot!"
She went on and on as she pulled away from Tyrion. He still stood there listening to her go on and on about what things could be wrong with this young man. Still Tyrion listened like any good person would in this situation.
At this point Mariah had climbed up off her bed and had been pacing around the room. She had been so caught up in things that it was only when Tyrion gave a look of complete fear did she stop walking about.
"What is the matter? Have you now realized why I cannot marry this unknown man?"
"You simply cannot can you?"
Mariah jumped at the voice and spun around so fast that she nearly knocked into Tywin Lannister who had entered her room while she had gone on her ranting fit in front of Tyrion. Tywin's eyes bore down into hers before they moved quickly over to Tyrion.
"Leave us."
He ordered causing Tyrion to be unmoved in fear for Mariah's safety.
"Go!"
Tywin shouted, anger getting the better of him. He was quick tempered after everything that happened today and the last thing he needed was a disobedient son. Tyrion finally started to move past the two of them. He gave Mariah a look in which was meant that he hoped she would be alright.
When the door finally closed and left the two of them inside Tywin inhaled deeply through his nose, nostrils flaring.
"You told me that when we had our first encounter that you never asked for anything when in a relationship with my son except for the fact that you wished for his friendship and kindness."
Tywin stated causing her eyes to widen a bit more. His memory was extremely well matched.
"So tell me, Lady Mariah, what do you expect from me?"
