His Heart

Laila awoken sometime in the afternoon.

It had been half a moon since she had become sick. She had been sick and was still sick. Her body didn't ache as much it was bacially numb at this point, but she still felt like her energy was all but gone.

She was unable to leave the bed anymore. She wasn't hardly able to ear, nor did she want to even eat at this point.

There had been many a night when Tywin had to have the maids feed her, she being too weak to even lift her hands to bring them to her mouth.

She laid there in bed, Tywin beside her sitting in the chair. The Meister tending to her.

"She's very sickly, I'm not sure how much longer she has left m'lord."

He said softly watching as Laila awoken to seeing them both there at her bedside.

"It's not hay fever and it's not pregnancy, what's wrong with her?"

Tywin questioned looking at the woman who laid in his bed. Since she had fallen ill Tywin had been pushed to his limits. Her body had refused to get better no matter what the Meister did for her.

He feared there was nothing that they could do.

"There is a hard surface in her stomach, m'lord. I do believe that it is not a child, but a tumor."

The news hit Tywin harder than ever before. A tumor? His young wife had a tumor?

"A tumor?"

Tywin questioned back standing up from his chair rather quickly and turning his back to them both. The Meister watched Tywin as the man stood with his hands behind his back, his head shaking about as he seemed to be debating.

"Leave us."

He ordered causing the Meister to give a quick bow before he grabbed the bottom of his robes and made his way out the room.

Tywin took a deep breath and shook his head again. Laila had awoken enough to have heard what was said, but she wasn't sure if Tywin knew it or not.

"My lord?"

Her weakened voice called out causing the man to turn and look at her.

She could see the look upon his face. It was clear as day. His once stoic expression had broken and crumbled into nothing. Emotion across his face as he looked toward his dying wife.

"Liala. You've awoken. How are you feeling?"

He questioned walking back to her side and sitting on the edge of the bed beside her. She merely looked up at him with a deep frown, she would have been crying at this point had she not been so weak to do so.

His question lingered in her tired mind. She could not bring herself to answer it.

"I'm sorry."

She spoke softly causing Tywin to quickly look away. She noticed his bottom lip trembling before he turned away from her completely.

"I've always been a disappointment to you, I -- "

"Stop that I won't hear of it."

He snapped quickly looking back at her. His eyes were reddening she knew he was becoming emotional. It was odd and unlike him to become emotional over anything, expecially someone like herself.

She felt his hand cover hers as he gripped her hand and took it into his. He sighed deeply, his chest heaving heavily as his jawline clenched together tightly.

"You've never been a disappointment. You've been such a good girl. An amazing wife."

He admitted openly to her suddenly. Laila couldn't help but smile softly. Knowing this made her happy. She was happy to know that he didn't think badly of her.

"Even though I couldn't provide you with heirs?"

"I never needed anymore children."

He admitted quickly. His free hand moving to the side of her face, his thumb brushing slowly across her skin.

"I took you and spared your life, married you, because when I first seen you... I couldn't think about not having someone like you at my side."

Laila closed her eyes slowly, enjoying the caressing that Tywin gave to her. She sighed deeply, her pain numbed at this point. Her body exhausted.

"Even after everything that has happened, my lord husband, I just want you to know that I've fallen in love with you."

She whispered opening her eyes again and seeing Tywin's distraught expression.

"I love you, Lord Tywin."

She pushed out from her last dying breath.

Tywin's eyes widened, his hand quickly grabbing at her face as it fell over lifeless in his hand. Tywin shifted upon the bed. His hands taking her face and holding it there looking at her lifeless eyes.

He shook his head quickly.

"Laila? Laila? Laila! No. No you cannot -- "

He commanded only realizing that it was too late, that she was already gone. His hands moved from her face and wrapped around her shoulders pulling her up against him.

He allowed her to rest in his arms. His lips pressed firmly against her forehead. He held her close to him not letting her go.

He couldn't let her go.

Not after the mistake that he had made of opening up his heart to the young woman who had stolen it right out from underneath him with her quiet ways and her overly known modesty.

He let her in just like how he allowed Joanna.

And just like Joanna, she too left this world far too soon taking his heart with her.
