First Day
"You got this, Cyrus. Just walk in." I take another look into the classroom. No sign of Andi or Buffy. And it's completely crowded and filled with all the popular kids. I put my hand on the handle and almost pushed down, but stopped. "Nope, I don't got this." I whisper to myself, with my eyes closed. I don't know why but my mind and body is telling me not to go into the classroom. First days of school sucks, and this situation proves that. Not having classes with your only friends is just the worst part of school.
"Excuse me." I gulp and turn on my heel, my eyes still closed. "Are you going in?" The voice sounded kind of intimidating. I slowly open my eyes to be met with green eyes from a blonde boy standing right in front of me. I don't remember his name but I know he was at Jefferson. And Buffy absolutely hated him. TJ. TJ Kippen. That's his name.
"U-uh... yeah. Yep, of course." I turn around and place my hand on the handle once again, my heart almost beating out of my chest.
"Do you need help?" TJ asked, the intimidating tone fading away. I shake my head and down on the handle a little bit. I remove my hand and drop it to my side. This is pathetic. "Here," TJ stood next to me and opened the door, and propped it open with his foot, "now you can go through." His smile was bright, even though it was a tiny smile. I nodded my head and held my backpack strap tight.
"T-thank you." He waves me off.
"No problem." I look at my feet and slowly shuffle into the room. Anxiety bubbled within my stomach and my hands became more shaky and sweaty the closer I got to anyone. There was no empty seat in sight since everyone was sitting down in the chairs or on the tables.
"Hey," TJ was next to me again and pointed at a seat that was empty in the back of the room, "over there." He smiled down at me. I nodded once again, my words being caught in my throat. Why is he being so nice to me? I don't think he even knows my name.
I slowly walk over to the empty seat, and before I could reach it, some kid takes the seat and pulls it over to this group of kids. My head falls and I'm standing there, with shaky hands and sweaty palms. I wish Buffy and Andi were here, this whole thing wouldn't have happened. I would be sitting with them, and maybe Jonah. We would be talking about our summer even though we spent most of the summer together. Is it too late to switch classes?
"I should've just left when I had the chance." I muttered to myself and head towards the door.
"Now why would you do that." He spoke again.
"I-I..."
"Come sit with me." His voice completely lost the intimidating tone. I didn't even respond when TJ grabbed my wrist and lightly tugged me over to where he was sitting. Two boys sat in front of where TJ sat.
"Yo Teej, who's this?" The blonde boy asked. The brunette just nodded his head at the question, which made no sense but whatever.
"This is Cyrus Goodman," he turned to me and patted the seat next to him, "don't worry, Lester doesn't bite. That dingus might though."
He pointed at the blonde which just flipped him off. TJ playfully rolled his eyes. I hung my backpack on the side of the chair and sat down; my shoulders rising. TJ leaned over to me.
"Don't worry, they're nice." He whispered. I give him a nervous smile and nod my head. Reed and Lester started a conversation about basketball which, even though I'm friend so with Buffy, I have no idea what it's about. I pulled out my notebook and started to draw random patterns on the top of the first page. It's a thing I do when I'm bored.
"What about you, Cyrus?" I drop my pen and look up. They were all looking at me. What did they ask? Oh god.
"Cyrus, he asked you what your favorite sport is." TJ filled me in. Favorite sport? Is nothing an option.
"I-uh, Ultimate." Lester nods again.
"Cool." Reed responds and starts talking to Lester again.
"Are you on a team?" TJ asks. He was turned to me.
"I used to be, the Space Otters." He smiled and nodded.
"The infamous Space Otters and Jonah Beck." I chuckled at the name. I don't know what Jonah was thinking.
"The one and only." I respond which made him laugh. Reed looked at him with his eyebrow raised. Then he looked at me. He smirked and turned to Lester again, and completely ignored TJ and I's existence. What was that?
"Anyways, do you still play?" Should I lie and say yes? I mean, TJ's is a jock, and he's being extremely nice to me. I don't want him to hate me for not playing a sport. But what if he wants to meet the team? Or worse, want to see one of the games? The Space Otter still exist. "I'm guessing that's a no?" I chuckle nervously and looked at my notebook
"Y-Yeah."
"That's fine, people grow out of things." He looks at my notebook also. "What is your thing?"
"I-I like to draw, and listen to music." I mentally face palmed myself. I think everyone likes listening to music.
"Who's your favorite singer or band?" He was leaning on his arm and looking straight at me.
"AJR. How about you?" He leaned back in his chair.
"I'm personally a huge fan of The Beatles and Stevie Wonder." Wow, wasn't expecting that, but I'm not disappointed.
"Did you see Yesterday yet?" His smile only grew bigger at the mention of the movie.
"Only hundred times." He bragged and crossed his arms. I like this side of him.
"Well I've seen it two hundred times so I got you beat." He leans in closer.
"Is that so, Mr. Goodman?" He's so close, why is he so close?
"Y-yep." He backs away a tiny bit and picks up his backpack. He pulls out his phone and places it on the table.
"Can I have your number?" There goes my shoulders again. It's not that I don't want to give him my number, it's the fact that he asked. I couldn't speak so I just nodded timidly and grabbed my phone. After exchanging numbers, he told me to look at him. He took a picture of me and made that my contact phot, with the name of 'Cy🌟.' I made his name Teej and took a picture of him which he caught before I could catch him not paying attention. The bell rings meaning the class is starting o we both put our phones away quickly. He leans over to me again. "Meet me at the Red Rooster after school today." He whispered in my ear. I nodded with a slight smile. The teacher walked in and stood in front of his desk, and introduced himself. This isn't so bad after all.

"TJ." I shout, running up to the blonde boy standing in front of the store. He turned around with a big smile on his face.
"You ready? I want to check out some of the new records before they're sold out." I nodded and followed him into the store, and instantly being met with the cold air inside. The store was not that crowded. There was some people walking around, looking at records. There were some people sitting in the corner of the store either with guitars or laptops. "Over there." TJ runs over to the section of new records like an excited puppy. Wait, what? "Look." He held up a AJR vinyl. I ran over to him. Excitement was running through me.
"It's the Neotheater Lp," I turned it around and looked at the price, "$45." I place it back on the shelf and looked at him with a soft smile. "I don't have money with me but I'm coming back here to get this." He starts walking down the aisle and stops. He's looking at a red album. I walk closer and the album read, "For Once In My Life" by Stevie Wonder.
"Woah, I'm surprised I don't have this one yet." He gently takes it off the shelf and turns it over. "$30. Great deal." He smiles and starts walking again, me following next to him.
"Cyrus?" Jonah?
"JB, what're you doing here?" He walks closer to me, and looks at TJ, who's too distracted by the vinyls to notice Jonah's presence. Jonah pulls me out of the aisle.
"What're you doing here with him?" Jonah gestures at TJ.
"He asked me to come here." I know they all hate him so that probably wasn't the best response.
"You should've said no." I crossed my arms.
"Why?"
"He's mean, he's always been mean. I don't want you to get hurt." He places a hand on my shoulder. I place my hand on his shoulder and smile.
"He's not that mean if you get to know him." His smile fades and he removes his hand from my shoulder. "I promise, I'll be fine."
"I'm just looking it for you." I nod.
"I know." He waves goodbye and I wave back. I go back to the aisle TJ was last in but he was gone.
"Boo." I flinch and turn around to see TJ almost dying of laughter at my reaction. All he said was boo and I almost screamed like a little girl. "Sorry, Cy. I had too." I finally stood up straight. He was holding a paper bag with the store's logo on it.
"Did you buy the vinyl?" He nods with a big smile. I've never seen someone smile so much. I've never even seen Jonah smile this much, and Jonah smiles a lot. Jonah has a resting smile face.
"Ready to go?" I nod and follow him out of the store. "Before I go," he reached into the bag and pulled something out, "I know you wanted this so I got this instead." He handed me the Neotheater vinyl. I was shocked, my mouth was completely dry and my words were stuck in my throat again.
"TJ..." I let out a short breathe and before I knew it, I was hugging him, and he was hugging back. "Thank you, thank you, thank you." He hugged me even tighter.
"Don't thank me, you deserve this." I don't want to let go. This is the most comfortable I've been all day. With this guy I've barely talked to before today. He let go first, but he let go extremely slow. "I'll see you at school, Cy." He saluted me when he started to walk away.
"Bye, I'll see you tomorrow!" I shout back before grabbing my bike. I don't even know how to feel about today. But I know none of these feelings are negative.
