28 - I'm Not Afraid Anymore
(Play the song. I love this song so much. I'm sorry. Scratch that I'm not. This entire chapter is inspired by it. <3 )
Frisk whipped her head around quickly, pale with fright. Her eyes eased when she saw the familiar face she was looking at.
Sans.
She remembered Sans vividly from her memory. Sans and his brother, Papyrus, were the only people who considered helping her. She was freezing half to death, and her blood would have stopped if not for the generosity of Sans.
He showed it in a very... Polite manner. Notice the sarcasm. But above everything, he still helped her. Weather it was in a harsh way or not, Sans was one of the reasons why Frisk was even alive right now.
He looked troubled. The white pinpricks of light in his eyes were still there, but it was slightly dimmed. There were dark rims under his eyes, and his jacket looked crumpled.
He sighed. "Kid... I... I don't know what to say." He looked at her. "News spread quickly in the underground. Most came from Undyne herself. Lemme ask you this, kid. Are you really sure about your decision?" He asked her with a doubtful look in his eye.
Frisk didn't respond as her breath hitched in her throat.
"You've seen what Asriel is like, right? Most of the humans that fall down here haven't even... Met him. They just die on the spot. You're the only human that has made it this far. You're the only human that's met him in person."
Sans looked down with a pained look on his face. "Now you see the demon that we fear. Now you see the TYRANT that rules us. Now you see that we're helpless." He looked at her in the eye.
"Kid. Please. I-I'm begging you. Please, Frisk, I'm begging you. Don't... Don't die. Don't waste your life. You promised us. You promised everyone." Sans was on the verge of tears.
"I'm sorry for treating you like sh*t the first time we met. But you have to understand I have my reasons. I'm glad I still helped you but I was such an ass. I'm so sorry, Frisk. But please...."
"Try to stay determined, because YOU are the only hope we have left."
His voice cracked at the end of his sentence.
Frisk didn't know what to feel. Was she more determined? Was she hurt? Was she pained? She seemed to be void and numb of all emotions right now. Her heart was cold, but at the same time it warmed.
"Sans... I... I want to make this choice... All of my decisions are to save... You all. I don't know if I'm going to live... Hell, I don't even know if I'll make it out to the surface."
She held his hands. "But if I know that I saved you all.... I'll be happy. I'll be satisfied. Three days isn't that long. I'll either be alive..."
"O-or dead... I'm not afraid anymore, Sans. I can do this." She looked at him with the brightest grin she could muster, and her eyes held the determination she used to keep herself standing.
"I promise. I'll save you all."
