CHAPTER 6
Arriving at class Hayley couldn't find Theodore anywhere. She couldn't believe that she was actually looking forward to spending time with him.
Halfway through the class he arrived ignoring all the teacher's rants and found his way to the back.
Hayley slowly pulled her bag away from the seat she had kept for him.
He hadn't even looked her way. Did she do something wrong?
She heard giggling a few seats in front of her and pretended not to hear.
"I think he's done with her and not interested anymore" a girl said to her friend who laughed.
She didn't care what they thought it didn't really bother her.
She just wanted to get this class done.
Part of her was thankful that he had decided to ignore her but a bigger part of her was hurt and wanted to know why even if they wouldn't be friends anymore she wanted to know what went wrong.
After classes, Hayley approached Theodore at the back who barely glanced at her before walking past but she pulled him back and he winced and immediately withdrew.
She looked down at his hand to find it in a cast.
"What happened?" She asked and he pulled his hand away.
"Nothing" he answered walking away.
"Theodore" she called and he sighed and turned back.
She stared at his hand it was fine yesterday what had happened?
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"What do you mean?" He retorted.
"You didn't bother speaking to me today and I even kept a seat for you" she complained and he smiled.
"You kept a seat for me?" He asked.
"Well," she rolled her eyes and he chuckled.
"Why did you keep a seat for me?" He asked closing the gap between them and she subconsciously began to move back.
"We are friends" she said and he stopped when he was directly in her face and she couldn't move back anymore because of the table behind her.
"Are we friends Hayley?" He asked suddenly frowning before leaving.
She stared at his retreating figure confused.
She had wanted to discuss what happened yesterday and thank him for defending her while she made an escape but it seemed they were not friends.
Of course, they were not, he was probably bored and wanted to tease her a little.
As she was about to leave the class she heard a beep from her phone.
*Friends don't ignore other friends messages*
She smiled and shook her head.
*Friends don't walk out on friends*
She replied waiting for his but it didn't come and she laughed at his childishness before finally leaving the classroom.
Hayley basically didn't have any other classes that day so she headed home.
It was quite early and she smiled recalling she hadn't seen Vandel this morning.
Suddenly she had the feeling that someone was watching her.
She began to increase her pace, all she had to do was make it home.
She pulled out her phone pretending she was on a call before literally running and it seemed the person didn't take after her so using a shortcut, she soon arrived home.
Entering the house she locked the door behind her but couldn't find Vandel in his usual spot on the couch.
"Vandel?!" She called.
"Kelly?!" She called.
Her heart was racing
Where were they?
"Vandel!" She called again rushing upstairs to his room, and pushing the door open she couldn't find him.
Ignoring the racing beat of her heart, she went into her room and locked the door clutching a hammer in hand.
.....
"It seems she noticed me" the man in black said.
"Very perceptive" the other man chuckled.
"Do you think she is the one?" The other man asked and the man in black shook his head.
"I don't believe so yet" the man said and the other man took a drag of his cigarette.
"Keep watch over her and maintain your distance I don't want her to suspect someone is tailing and let me know when you find out anything" the other man said.
"Yes sir" the man in black replied.
....
Vandel came back home and found the front door locked making him confused.
"Was Hayley back?" He looked at his watch it was still early.
Clutching the gun hidden in his inner jacket pocket he opened the door with his spare key and moved quietly.
"Hayley!" He called.
He checked the kitchen, bathroom, and his room and finally came to Hayley's.
He pulled at the door but found it locked.
"Hayley, are you there?" He asked but there was no response.
"Hayley!" He called again when there was no response this time, he charged at the door and broke the lock kicking the door open.
He looked around to find Hayley on the floor clutching tightly to a hammer.
"Hayley" he called lifting her up to find her sleeping and relief washed over him.
She stirred a little in his arms and he gently placed her on the bed.
He was scared when he found her room door locked.
He sat at her desk scrolling through his phone.
An hour later Hayley stirred before finally waking up.
Looking up she found Vandel sitting at her desk.
"Vandel?" She called and he turned to face her with a smile.
"Hey" he greeted and she rushed over to him before hugging him.
"I felt like someone was following me on the way home and when I came home you weren't here and...
"Shhh it's okay everything is fine" he whispered patting her head.
"You felt someone was following you?" He asked and she nodded.
"I'll have that checked out but you're okay right?" He asked she nodded and he kissed her head.
"Where were you?" She asked.
"I went to drop Kelly off at her place and do some grocery shopping" he replied.
"Please let me know when you aren't home" she said.
"Of course, I just didn't expect you to be back that early" he replied.
"I'll go make us something to eat okay?" He asked and she nodded making him smile before leaving the room.
