CHAPTER 14

HAYLEY'S POV

I was woken up by water being poured on my face.

It was ice cold.

I looked up to find Joan smiling at me.

"Morning" she groaned and I was immediately hit by a massive headache and fell back into the bed.

"We have classes today" she informed and I groaned.

Why did I go to the party again?

I forced myself out of bed going to shower when I came out Joan was on the bed staring at the ceiling still groaning.

I shook my head and went downstairs.

"Vandel!" I greeted.

"Morning I'm in the kitchen!" He yelled back.

I noticed a figure on the couch and one of my blankets on the floor and I suddenly remembered that Theo slept here.

"Theo?" I called and he groaned.

Not only the blanket but his shirt was also on the floor and he was slightly sweaty.

"Theo" I called again and he grumbled but sat up and yawned before placing his hand on his hair.

"What's the time?" He asked.

"Almost nine" I replied and he finally opened his eyes which took in my form before they widened.

"Shit, did I sleep here?" He asked standing up.

Damn Theo are you trying to kill me

He was ripped, not the bulging kind of ripped but he had a nice form.

"Y...yea you did" I replied and he mumbled a bunch of curses.

"I have somewhere to be" he said grabbing his shirt and tossing it on picking up his phone, he fled the house saying goodbye.

"Your friend left?" Vandel asked.

"Yea, but Joan is still around" I replied.

"Does she like pancakes" he asked and I nodded.

Joan would eat anything especially something made by Vandel.

"What's for breakfast" Joan asked entering the kitchen.

Speak of the devil.

"Pancakes want some?" Vandel asked with a smile.

"Of course" she replied suddenly smiling and not groaning anymore.

"Have anything for hangovers?" I asked Vandel as my head throbbed hard.

"There's some Advil in the bathroom cabinet" Vandel replied and I nodded heading to fetch it.

VANDEL'S POV

Hayley had gone upstairs and her friend Joan hadn't stopped smiling at me.

"So what do you do for a living?" She asked.

"I'm a researcher" I replied.

"What kind of research do you do?" She asked.

"Research on different chemicals and their composition" I replied and her mouth formed an 'O' shape.

"That sounds cool" she smiled and I returned it.

"What makes it cooler is that I get to work from home" I said and she smiled.

"How's school?" I asked noticing she had been meaning to strike up a conversation.

"Just normal nothing out of the ordinary" she said and I nodded as I handed her her plate of pancakes and she muttered a thank you giving me a wink which confused me but I just smiled.

"Joan, do you need some advil?" Hayley asked.

"I'm good!" Joan yelled back.

"So what happened to Hayley's mum, she never told me about it" she said.

"She passed on, it's been quite a long time" I replied.

"It must have been hard on you raising the child alone" she said giving me a sad look.

"Not really, Hayley was kind of an easy child and I enjoyed every bit of her growing up" I said and Joan smiled.

"You're such a good father" she said and I stifled a laugh.

Grabbing my plate I sat opposite her on the island.

"I want to ask you something keep it between us?" I said and she nodded excitedly leaning in closer.

"Hayley and you know are they a thing?" I asked and she smiled.

"Not yet" she said and I nodded.

"How was the party?" I asked changing the subject.

"It was dope all the alcohol and music" she said nodding and I returned it.

"Good to know it was fun I'm glad you guys has a good time" I said with a small smile.

"I know other ways to have a good time" she said and I turned to face her.

"What do you like to do for fun Vandel?" She asked and I smiled.

I didn't mind her calling me my first name it was just the boldness that amused me.

"I'm more of an indoor person I'd rather do something fun indoors" I said and she nodded smirking.

"I get what you mean" she said and I raised my eyebrows.

I felt like she misunderstood.

"So Hayley tells me you have a girlfriend" she said shocking me.

"Ah yes, we're not exactly a thing yet we are taking it slow" I said and she smiled a bit brighter.

"Good to know" she said tapping my hand and I looked down before looking up at her and she just smiled.

"Breakfast ready?" Hayley asked grabbing her plate.

"Thanks, Vandel delicious as always" she said after taking a bite and I smiled at her.

"Is it okay to be calling your dad by his first name?" She asked.

"He doesn't mind" Hayley shrugged and a part of me felt warm that she told her friends I was her dad.

Not being able to resist, I stood up reaching over I ruffled her hair and she looked up at me through her glasses and her mouth stuffed full of pancake.

"Why?" She asked.

"Nothing just felt like it" I said and she smiled a little.

"You have such nice arms do you work out?" Joan asked.

"Ah yes, I do" I replied and she nodded with her smile still plastered on her face.

....

"Have a good day at school" I said to Hayley and she softly punched my arm grabbing her lunch.

"No day is ever good at school" she groaned.

"You too Joan have a good day" I said patting her head and she looked up at me with flushed cheeks.

"Of course" she said and Hayley pulled her out of the house and I waved both of them goodbye as my phone rang.

"Yes" I said into the phone.

"We found a guy tailing her, he has followed her all week" Killian said.

"Take care of it" I said gripping the life out of the table.

"Of course" he replied.
