"WHAT DO YOU MEAN-"
"We ran out of milk?!" I whined. Izuku shrugged in response, rummaging through the fridge. "Sorry, (y/n) . It was your turn to do the groceries though." He squinted at me, lips forming a pout.
The morning was like any other. Izuku leaned against the counter, droplets falling from his forest locks onto the towel around his shoulders. "And could you n-not stare?" He pointed out. I glanced back up at him, peeling my gaze away from his toned chest. It sure did pay waking up at five am to work out every morning.
"Whoops" I giggled, skipping towards the fridge, still disappointed at the lack of milk. "I can appreciate a good looking friend." Even when facing away from him, I could practically feel the blush creeping up his freckled cheeks. He always was one to get easily flustered.
I ended up pulling out microwaveable pancakes, shutting the freezer door. "Well, I guess these will do for now. I promise to go get groceries later today." I sighed out, turning towards him. Izuku crossed his arms, leaning forwards to poke me straight in the nose. "You need to learn how to be more responsible, (y/n)"
I blinked, shifting my gaze to the chore schedule that was pinned on the wall. "I'm responsible! I just... uh.."
"Was busy sketching?" A third voice joined us,
and I turned to see Shouto. It was obvious he had woken up not long ago, due to the way his hair was disheveled and he hadn't even put on his glasses. He groaned, quite roughly placing down my phone on the counter. "This thing won't stop dinging, (y/n). Please make it stop before I throw it out the window" he snapped, pointing at the glowing screen.
"Good morning to you too, j–" I silenced myself , remembering why he was even in a bad mood in the first place. I moved away from the counter, stepping in front of him. ".. never mind that. I should apologize." I began, his stone cold expression slightly shifted. Even if it was barely noticeable, it meant he was at least listening.
I smiled weakly, wrapping my arms around his waist as I pressed my cheek to his chest. "I'm sorry, Shou. I shouldn't have brought up a sensitive topic like I did. It was a jackass move of mine." I stated, looking up to meet gaze with him. His cheeks dusted a soft pink, a warm sigh escaping his lips.
"Forgiven. It's fine, (y/n)" he murmured. I tilted my head upwards, only to meet with a gentle smile, even if it was momentary. I smiled too. "Thank gosh. I was afraid you'd have a stick up your ass the rest of the day" I laughed , his smile was quickly replaced by a huff. "I should have expected that , coming from you" he groaned.
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?!" I cried out , raising my index finger to flick his nose. "You know what it me–"
ding!
ding!
ding!
"Jeez, what the hell.." I mumbled. Shouto crossed his arms, pointing at the phone. "I told you that thing keeps dinging. It kept me up all morning" he deadpanned after releasing a yawn. Izuku's brow furrowed as he worked behind the counter. The aroma of bacon reached my nostrils, making me assume he was cooking eggs and bacon.
"How did you even hear her phone from that far away? Is it seriously that loud?" He questioned , turning back to what he was doing. The conversation in between my two friends turned into white noise as I picked up my phone to check the cause of the fuss.
I was very surprised, to say the least.
ding!
ding!
ding!
Notification after notification, the phone screen lit up. I recognized the blue twitter icon, and I wasn't even quick enough to read through all the notifications as more and more filtered in. What the hell.. I sat down on the nearby stool, clicking open the app.
ding!
ding!
ding!
Despite being drowned in hateful notifications, despite being flooded in hundreds of direct messages that spilled nothing but venom, only one single notification mattered. Simple text that hovered on a screen was enough to make my vision blur, and my heart shrink.
❝You don't like my content? Fucking fine. But don't go shitting around with my co-workers or me. Go get a fucking life and stay off the internet, retard❞
The words sliced through me like spears, piercing holes right through my heart. It was suddenly hard to breathe, and my chest felt tight. Every moment from yesterday caught up with me. The late hours, the blurry sight, the way my fingers glided across the keyboard carelessly. The realization of what happened dawned on me, slapping me right across the cheek.
I made the biggest, most idiotic, most life-and-soul ending typo
And Katsuki Bakugou , my life long idol (well, almost - but that doesn't matter) , read it. And to make things better, was fucking offended by it. I wanted the earth to swallow me whole as I melted over the counter , phone still in hand. My two friends stopped their conversation, turning to see me, a 'are-you-having-a-seizure?' expression written on both of their faces.
I shoved the phone into Izuku's hand, signaling to the tweet that had ended my existence. Even though I my cheek was pressed into the marble of the counter, I clearly heard the sharp inhale he took. "(y/n), what were you even trying to say in the first place?"
"ICONIC! I wanted to use the word ICONIC , not ANNOYING!" I shot up, flailing my arms in a panic. I probably looked insane. Shouto lightly pushed Izuku away from the stove , a 'here we go again' slipping from his lips as he took over the cooking.
"What in the world told you it was a good idea to tweet so late?" Izuku mumbled, handing me my phone back. Truth be told, I didn't know. All I knew it that I let my hype take over, and I didn't take in mind how tired I was.
"And how the heck can you go from 'iconic' to 'annoying' ?" His questions only made me realize my stupidity more. I allowed myself to glaze over my phone, instantly regretting it. This hasn't been up for that long. Shit really does go crazy on the internet. Of course it did. I really should have taken that in consideration.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, swaying slightly to calm myself. It'll be okay, (y/n). Take a deep breath. Meditate on how to fix this. It'll all be okay if you deal with it correctly. I relaxed in my own mind space, fluttering my eyes open to meet a concerned Izuku. I gave him a halfhearted smile. Truly, I was heartbroken about it. But the more I dwelled about it the worse I would feel.
Izuku returned the smile, placing a hand on mine. "Hey, (y/n). It'll all be fine. Kacchan isn't.. that fantastic anyways" he muttered under his breath. I knew they didn't have a great history , but he knew how much I admired him. Up to date I was still somewhat jealous they shared a part of their childhood together, even if it wasn't that good.
"I'll treat you out to milkshakes. I owed you that anyways. You coming , Shou?" He asked, glancing at Shouto , who was finishing up breakfast as he served the food on the plates. "Sure" he mindlessly replied, mostly concentrating on what he was doing.
"Great!" Izuku turned to me, flashing me his iconic smile. He's seriously going to blind me one of these days. His smile was always contagious, and I ended up brightening up as well. "Alright.. thank you, Izu" I replied.
His cheeks dusted a light pink as he waved his hand , fanning himself dismissively. "Don't even mention it, (y/n)! Ah, and don't read the comments, okay? The internet is a really toxic place sometimes." There it was again. The saddened was the corners of his lips tipped.
Out of all of us Izuku wild obviously know it best. He had a talent for not letting people get to his head, plus being a YouTuber himself. Sometimes I had no idea how he managed. I laughed softly, still recalling his beginner days where he would stay up until dawn editing.
"See? That's the beautiful smile I want" he chuckled, letting go of my hand. "You'll power through this, (y/n)".
Our conversation was cut at that the moment Shouto placed down the plates, sitting next to us as he picked up the utensil. He smiled softly, directing his heterochromatic gaze towards us. "Izuku is right. You'll be okay, this isn't much to worry over. Plus, you look nicer when you smile." Even though his words weren't as warm, I knew he cared. The way his cheeks warmed rose and his hands moved along with him as he spoke. He cared, and he always did.
"Thank you, Shou"
I grabbed my phone, opening the app to address the situation. Before taking the leap, I thanked whatever gods existed, for giving me such amazing friends. I really would be lost without the two, and they would be lost without me.
