Chapter 3: The Watering Hole
Six-ish months later...
Ambar slowly blinked her eyes open. It was before dawn, and no one else was up. Or so she thought.
When she started to trot out of the den, Moyo pounced on her. "Oof!" Ambar grunted. "Pinned ya!" Moyo exclaimed with delight. "Hey, I'm going to the watering hole, wanna come?" Ambar asked.
"Sure!" Moyo replied. The two cubs trotted out of the den and off Pride Rock, to the watering hole.
"Hey, what's that green stuff? It looks icky." Ambar noted. "I don't know... But I'm gonna lick it!" "MOYO NO!" But Moyo had already licked it. And he was losing consciousness fast. "Ambar? I don't feel so good..." "Don't worry, I'm gonna get you to Rafiki!" Ambar promised.
She ran with Moyo on her back all the way to Rafiki, and shouted: "RAFIKI!!! WAKE UP!!! MOYO NEEDS HELP!!!" This jolted Rafiki awake and he came out." "What is it? What do you need young cubs?"
"Moyo licked some icky green stuff, and he's unconscious!" "Oh no, that's not good at all..."
Ambar paced outside Rafiki's tree worried for her adopted brother, what would happen to him? When Rafiki came out, Moyo walked out with him. "Moyo licked some poison, Ambar, I got the poison I could out, but his eye seems to have been affected..."
Rafiki peeled the leaf wrap off Moyo's left eye. It was pale yellow, in contrast to his right eye, which was dark green.
"It seems to have been infected, but I have removed the poison that I could find... So this is a problem beyond me, young cubs."
"What do we do?" Asked Ambar. "I would suggest rounding up a lion guard and going to the tree of life, to get his eye healed."
"Ok Rafiki, I can round up a lion guard, but can we bring my siblings too?" Moyo questioned.
"I do not see why not." Rafiki replied.
