*Luke's P.O.V*
January 30th
Laurel: Luke, I miss you. - 7:43pm
Laurel: I know ur mad at me but can't we just try fixing this together? - 9:03pm
Laurel: Okay... have a good night - 11:50pm
February 1st
Laurel: You have no idea how much I miss you... isn't this enough already? - 8:06am
Laurel: Seriously, it's been almost a week and I miss my best friend - 1:47pm
Laurel: I'm sorry. I'm sorry for ruining everything, but I truly was just trying to make a surprise. I hope u know I had nothing but good intentions on that. Its funny how everything without you seems different, I don't even recognize my own life if I ain't got you... I fought with Megan and I made u mad. My choices have been terrible, I know, I've paid the price. I'm completely alone, all by myself, no one to talk to. I guess this is not a problem to you, u've always got tons of people around u anyway... but if u miss me, just a tiny little bit, pls don't give up on me. it was just a misunderstanding, what else can I do other than say I'm sorry? if I could turn back time I would... idk if ur reading this or ur simply ignoring all the texts I send, but in case you've made it to the end of this incredibly melancholic and long message, i got the scholarship. I'm moving to San Francisco on the 10th. I hope by then you're talking to me again... that's it, I guess. I won't bother anymore. - 4:16pm
Laurel: Oh, just one last thing: I love you. I really do. Bye. - 4:20pm
I read all the messages over and over again, feeling this incredible desire to simply call her and apologize for leaving her alone, and congratulate her for the scholarship. The week without any sign of Laurel has dragged itself, and I've been nothing but grumpy all day.
"You're not calling her, are you?" A asks.
I look up at her, fed up.
"What if I am? She's my girlfriend."
"I don't think things are going well with that little princess of yours" She mocks.
"And how could you possibly know about my personal life? I don't recall giving you any information."
Amanda shrugs.
"You don't have to, I know you quite well. I can tell when you're upset with somebody"
"Couldn't they be you?" I scoff. "I mean, I do have been with you for more than I find pleasurable this week."
"Nah, that's different. And considering you didn't answer any phone calls from her or called, nor texted anyone, I might have guessed there was trouble in paradise."
I groan.
"Whatever. Just tell me what you want to say, already, I have other things to do."
"Relax, for God's sake" She rolls her eyes. "I was actually going to ask if you have any idea who H is."
"I'm pretty convinced it's Austin."
"You don't say!"
I glare at her, standing up.
"Why am I telling you anyway? My suspicions are based on facts, not my hatred towards him."
"If you're saying... And I was also going to warn you about something. Now that the media found out about the cunt, you sort of--"
"Don't you fucking call my girlfriend that" I clench my jaw.
"Ugh, I don't give a damn, really. As I was saying, you sort of have two options: you either take her as your official girlfriend or you deny everything. You've done this before, you know how much paparazzi and all that shit can ruin a relationship. So I'd suggest you take care and choose wisely."
I leave Amanda's house thinking about what she's said. As much as I hate to admit, she's got a point. If I go back home all by myself, I'm most definitely going out of my mind thinking about it all. So I call Calum.
"What are you doing, mate?" I ask him.
"I'm out with Natalie" He says. "We're heading to the beach. Why you ask?"
I huff.
"Nothing much, I was just wondering if you'd like to do something now."
"Sorry."
Maybe Ashton?
"I'm at Bryana's" He tells me. "We're having dinner later."
Okay, please Mikey, you're my last hope.
"Today's your lucky day, Lucifer" He grins. "I'm coming home. Want to stop by?"
"Yeah, I need to distract myself"
Getting to Michael's place he puts on FIFA for us to play. Hanging out with Michael is always a good idea.
However, not even a game night with one of my best friends is able to make me forget the stiffs in my heart for not talking to Laurel or the things Amanda said. And besides, I've never been the best at hiding my emotions; I don't even need to say Michael knew there was something wrong with me.
"Okay" He says, turning off the tv. "It's been a few days since the songwriter inside you simply decided to take a nap, we didn't make progress with any of the songs we were writing. Also, you're fed up all the time; jeez, you're not even making jokes! This ain't you, Luke. Tell me what happened between you and Laurel"
I raise my eyebrows.
"How do you even know this is about Laurel?"
"You haven't said a single word about her the entire week."
I sigh, laying back on his couch.
"She was lying to me"
"About what?"
"Remember the guy I told you she was talking to? She lied about him, she refused to tell me who he was and she was putting me aside as well, so I told her I wanted a break" I huff.
"Wait, so you decided you wanted to break up with your girlfriend because she was omitting things?"
"I guess so"
Michael laughs.
"Okay, I thought it had to do with Laurel, but it doesn't. Luke, since when would you have this type of attitude over something so small? She wasn't even lying, she was omitting."
"That's the same shit" I roll my eyes.
"It's most definitely not, my friend" He grins. "Like you've never hidden anything from her! The H source for instance, you didn't tell her about it. Were you lying?"
"But-"
"Were you lying, Hemmo?" Michael insists. I take a deep breath and shake my head. He smiles, triumphant. "That's right, you were just omitting something. See the difference? She probably meant no harm, man"
"I know she didn't" I frown. "It's just... ugh. She told me she was going to visit the guy's sister with him in San Francisco on Calum's birthday! How do you expect me to take that?"
"And did she?"
"Nope. See? She was lying."
"Why was she there, then?"
"For a scholarship. Laurel got it, she's studying at UCSF from now on. She claims she didn't tell me because she wanted to make me a surprise."
Michael coughs.
"Let me see if I got this straight: she omitted she was trying to get a scholarship to study at San Francisco because she wanted to surprise you, and when you asked her what she would do there - because I know you very well to be sure you did ask her and push her as well - she failed miserably at choosing the right excuse. Laurel said she was going to visit Austin's sister and you got pissed at her. How did you even find out she was lying, then? She told you?"
"I may or may not have sent Jeff to San Francisco to keep an eye on her" I mutter.
Michael jumps from the couch, laughing madly.
"I can't believe you made poor Jeff stalk your girlfriend!"
"I wouldn't say stalk, it's too rough."
"Fuck you, Luke. Fuck yourself with a cactus, dude" He shakes his head. "You're mad at her when you actually have no right to, seriously! You freaking stalked her!"
"Because I was worried she could be lying to me! Which she was!" I deffend myself.
"Man, she was just trying to make a surprise! And you weren't able to trust her, what the hell?"
"Oh, so you're on her side?" I inquire, unbelieving.
"Of course I am on her goddamn side!" He stares down at me. "Luke, I'm serious mate, I didn't give up on her for you to screw up things like that. She's probably miserable, the poor girl was just trying to do something nice!"
"Did she have to say she was with the fucking douchebag?!"
"So the problem is all because she mentioned Austin?!"
"YES!... no" I massage my temples. Michael gasps, sitting by my side once again.
"Bro, I know she picked the worst excuse ever, but that's all it was: an excuse. She was trying to surprise you. I might not know Laurel very well, but I'm sure she wanted to study at UCSF for you. I mean, for herself, of course, but certainly for you, too; to shorten the distance between you guys! Luke, she's crazy for you and she's made that clear so many times! Do you really think you should give up on someone who's so good to you because of something that didn't even happen?"
I glance at Michael, and then take my phone. I changed the photo of the lockscreen to the one I'm standing with the penguins at Taronga Zoo, but when I unlock it, there's a picture of Laurel and I kissing inside the Opera House. I press my lips together, closing my eyes.
"Do you think I should call her and apologize?" I ask him.
"Did she try to reach you during the week?"
"Multiple times."
"Then I guess you should start with a simple 'hello'. See where it goes" He smirks, punching my shoulder. I chuckle and nod, feeling my heart freaking out. I type her number and impatiently wait.
"Luke?" She asks in a desperate voice.
"H-Hello, my angel" I reply, feeling like I just took this incredible weight off my shoulders.
