thirteen

Hana watched as Heeseung walked back inside and towards her. While he'd looked scared following the older boy outside, now he looked happier coming back.

Her heart raced as he walked closer to her, and she fought the urge to run far, far away.

Who was he?

This boy who'd known she was going to die. How had he known? She was confused and scared, but when he sat down next to her and smiled, everything stopped and none of that mattered for a moment. Because she was just happy to have him by her side. She was happy to be alive.

"Who was that?" she asked lightly.

"My boss?"

"You're boss? Wow... he looks pretty young though," she commented, thinking of the boy who'd come in without warning. "Very handsome too," she said, enjoying the jealous look that suddenly crossed Heeseung's face. "How'd he get here? How'd he find you? And more importantly... how did you find me? How did you know I was going to die? Tell me," she demanded.

Heeseung looked at the floor. "I can't," he whispered after a moment. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I can't tell you a lot of things."

She felt herself trembling, with anger, with fear, and with sadness. Because even though she knew that what she was about to do was the more logical thing, her heart ached.

"Thank you for saving my life," she whispered. "But now get out."

"What?"

"You heard me," she snapped, holding herself together by a thread. "Get out. Now. You can't give me those answers, and I can't trust you. So go away. Please," she whispered, her voice breaking a little. She balled her hands into fists, forcing her tears to subside.

Why was she liked this?

Why was she sad to be sending him away? A suspicious boy who she'd met less than a week ago... how did he suddenly have a place in her heart?
