8-I Got The Right Temperature To Shelter You From The Storm

Will

Will entered the classroom for drama class and sat down at the back of the classroom, so that Mrs. Hughes would not notice him sleep. Drama class was the most boring class in the whole day. He did not share it with any of his friends, and Mrs. Hughes talked about Shakespeare a lot.

So he was lucky enough to grab one of the back seats. They were regarded as the best seats of the classroom in the drama class. He put his head on the desk and heard other students enter the classroom.

After a few minutes heard the familiar clicking of heels, followed by Mrs. Hughes' lecture about how acting comes from the heart and he could feel the sleep take over him, until the tone of a familiar voice woke him up.

"You're late, Emma", said Mrs. Hughes.

He sat up on hearing Emma's name and looked towards the door, then blinked once and rubbed his eyes. Was that Emma? No.

Emma did not wear clothes like that.

Well, Will never really noticed the kind of clothes Emma used to wear in the first place, but he was sure that she did not wear those. He stared at her. She looked so different. A good different. She looked beautiful.

Unfortunately, he had to put all such thoughts to rest, when the girl sitting in front of him whispered to the another girl sitting nearby, loud enough for him to hear,"Hey you know, that chick has started dating the captain of the basketball team."

The other girl seemed kind of annoyed,"I remember asking Matt out, he rejected me without even thinking first."

Wait, so these girls were saying that Matt was dating Emma. He shook his head. That was absurd.

Matt had never dated anybody. Why would he date Emma all of a sudden?

He had never shown any indication that he liked Emma. It might just be a rumor, Will thought, feeling a small surge of hope. But these rumors could be true. But he had met Matt that morning. And that bastard didn't tell him anything.

Emma sat at a desk diagonal to his desk. He stared at her. He knew he should not stare, but his eyes were telling his brain to shut up. Emma was really pretty. She had always been pretty.

He kicked himself. He was not supposed to have such thoughts. She was most probably dating Matt. But then, why hadn't Matt told him about asking Emma out. Will could have given Matt some pointers. He would have been happy to. Or would he? He looked closely. Wait, was she wearing makeup? But why? She never wore makeup. At least he had never really seen her wear makeup before.

He kicked himself again, harder this time. He was having weird thoughts again. She is Matt's girlfriend, said a small part of his mind. He was happy for Matt. He knew they would have a great relationship.

But instead of feeling happiness, he felt a strange kind of cold spread in his body, at the thought of Emma and Matt being together.

Mrs. Hughes voice brought him back into reality,"Mr. Fisher, if you have stopped daydreaming now, will you answer my question?", she asked, eyebrows raised.

"Um... could you repeat the question once, sir, I mean, ma'am", he said, looking down as the rest of the class snickered.

"I asked whether you know how to sing", said Mrs. Hughes.

"Um..no, ma'am, I'm a pretty terrible singer", he replied, confused.

"So, I'm casting you as one of the dancers. I'll pair you up with Ms. Accident Queen over there", she said, pointing towards Emma,"I hope you know how to waltz."

A strange kind of warmth replaced the cold in his body, and he felt his heart beat faster when Emma turned around to look at him and their eyes met. She had beautiful eyes as well...

He kicked himself yet again. He had to stop thinking such weird thoughts and think about learning how to waltz instead. What if he danced clumsily and embarrassed himself in front of her. No he could not let that happen. He had to impress Emma. He looked at her again.

She was smiling. Must be thinking about Matt. He felt another surge of warmth in his body, but this was an unpleasant sensation, it was painful. What was wrong with him?

Must be because I had a break up recently, he thought. That was why he felt bitter. Because he had just had a breakup. There was no other reason. No other reason.

"Guys, we left the cafe way behind", Shane said, as Will, Matt, Kyle and Shane walked to the alley, where they had planned the big Kevin-confession...thing.

"Just have patience, Shane", Kyle said with a sigh, then turned to Matt, "And why didn't you tell us before, that you were asking Emma out. Why did we have to find out along with the entire school?"

"And how, when, where, we need the deets, man", Will chimed in. He had never been more curious in his life.

"You sound like a eight grade girl, bro", said Kyle, earning a scowl from Will.

"It...was just a spur of the moment thing", Matt said, "And we're reaching, we'll talk about this later."

"Reaching where?", Shane asked, "And why didn't Kevin come?"

They rounded the corner, and began walking onto the empty street.

"Are you guys planning to kidnap me?", Shane asked, "I know I'm not as strong as Will, but I can kick some serious ass."

Matt sighed, "Someone gag him, please."

"Aha, so you are planning to kidnap me", Shane said, with a smug smile, even though that was not a thing to be smug about. They reached the empty alley, well except for the jukebox in the middle, and Shane stopped dead, just as Will had expected. How did Shane not recognise the route?

"Wait a minute...", Shane muttered, hopefully realising what this place was.

Will walked to the centre of the alley and took his position, as Kyle did too, on either side of the jukebox. Matt walked straight to the jukebox, and pressed the play button. Sean Paul's Temperature began blaring from the jukebox as Will and Kyle began.

"Guys", Shane began, but Will and Kyle had already begun dancing.

Left foot, right foot, right foot double tap, then turn, Will repeated the choreography in his mind.

Right foot shuffle, then twist, land on the left foot. Will and Kyle performed all of it in sync, till the chorus played, and Will saw Josh jump in from the top of god-knows what. He stopped as more members of the crew climbed onto the trash cans, did back flips, landing in the centre of the circle that they had begun to form.

Will turned to see Shane, who was watching, completely shocked.

Well woman the way the time cold I wanna be keepin' you warm
I got the right temperature to shelter you from the storm
Oh lord, gal I got the right tactics to turn you on, and girl I,
Wanna be the Papa, You can be the Mom, oh oh!

Will did his best to keep up with the choreography of the crew, with Josh in lead, who Shane was staring at dumbfounded. Then it struck Will. Maybe they shouldn't have let Shane's old crush lead the dance.

When the second verse ended, he heard a soft thump, to signify that Kevin had now jumped into the circle. Will kept dancing till the end of the song, when he did a twist mid air, then landed onto the ground, and took a position on the ground, on his knees like the rest of the crew, until Kevin was the only one left standing.

"Shane, that night, I told you we made a mistake. And maybe I made the biggest mistake by telling you that. Because, since that night, I couldn't stop thinking about you. I want you and only you. Will you accept me? Will you go out with me?", Kevin said with the softest, most gentle tone Will had heard him use.

"Will you go out with him?", Will shouted along with the rest of the crew, as all of them stared at Shane, waiting for his response. His eyes were still wide, but Will could see that Shane's expression, body language and everything changed, as a big smile grew on his face.

"I guess I will", Shane said, and Kevin surged forward to him and wrapped his arms around him. They kissed each other, and Will looked away, trying to hide how grossed out he was. They had been his best friends since fifth grade. It was weird. But he did cheer with the entire crew.

Will heard sniffing beside him, and he turned to see Matt wiping a tear.

He raised an eyebrow at Matt, who sniffed again, "That was so beautiful."

Will would never understand the guy. Even though he looked like he could take on a fully armed elephant, he had the emotional tolerance the size of an ant.

He patted his emotional mess of a best friend in the back, "We need to keep you away from those chick-flicks, buddy."

The rest of the evening, they spent dancing with the crew, who had come into town for a week after winning this awesome dance competition in New York, bringing back memories of old times ( The explanation is in chapter 29, guys. I guess you'll have to wait)

Half of the time, they did the Macarena, considering that was the only step Matt knew how to dance. In general, it was one of the most amazing evenings, which Will did really need, after the ugly breakup.
