59 - All Of These Stars Will Guide Us Home
I finally updated this chapter after months of procrastination, I'm so proud of myself. And I'm extremely sorry to y'all for being so late, writer's block's the absolute worst. Behold, the second last chapter...
And oh my God guys I just realised that the actor who played Neville in Harry Potter is also named Matthew Lewis and Kyle Moore is Ross Lynch's character's name in Status Update. So I promise the names of my characters is just a coincidence. I literally had no idea.
KYLE
"I love you", he said, just the way he did that night on the best date of his life.
They were in the exact same spot. The best, untouched spot in the entire city. He remembered every single detail of the night. Penny had been wearing a pink t-shirt and her pajama bottoms, but still had looked beautiful than ever. And now she was dressed in his hoodie and shorts, still looking more beautiful than ever.
"Hey I had said it first that night", Penny said with a smile.
"Too bad I beat you to it", he said, sticking his tongue out.
"Shut up", she said, and he put a finger on her chin and lifted it up slightly to kiss her slowly. This was something he would miss the most. Maybe. Singing in music room was up there too.
He heard Penny's stomach growl and smiled against her mouth before pulling away. He could see her blush better in the faint light of the moon overhead. It was a full moon night.
Perfect.
He pulled out the picnic basket from his trunk, and unpacked the food he'd cooked before leaving.
"Brownies!" She yelled before grabbing two. But she stopped before putting one near her mouth, "Do they have anything...unusual?"
He laughed, "No."
"I'm trusting you Moore."
"And I'll never let you down."
EMMA
"Okay, take the list out," she ordered, and Matt scrambled around patting his pockets before pulling out a grocery list.
"Okay, first item," she announced, as everybody readied themselves. They wanted to make grocery shopping fun, so they decided to race and see who got each item before everyone. The one with the most points would win and would get to sleep in the biggest tent with his partner.
Matt rolled up the sleeves of his t-shirt, his biceps prominent and amazing. Will rubbed his hands together. Kevin rolled his neck from side to side, looking very cool. And Shane was just jumping from side to side. Maybe they shouldn't have let him order a fourth cup of coffee in Mc. Donalds.
Emma was not allowed to participate because, she was, an athlete. It was dumb.
"Wart cream!" she shouted, and they all began to run but stopped and turned back, and stared at her in confusion.
"Ha ha just kidding it's bread," she said, and Matt took off first, towards the specific section. Others were not that far behind. She ran after them and found Will and Matt running neck-and-neck for the loaves of break on the top shelf.
And that was when Shane jumped on top of Matt's back and snatched the loaf before Will and Matt could do so.
"I got bread
You'll get wart cream instead!"
Shane rhymed, shaking his hips around.
Emma laughed and patted sad Matt's back, before putting a point next to Shane's name on her clipboard.
"Next up," she announced, "twelve-pack Gatorade!" she shouted and everyone took off, Matt way ahead on everyone else. Well, it was Gatorade. He probably could find that aisle with his eyes closed. And Matt ended up winning after all.
Next round was chocolate, which Will won. Even the marshmallow and graham cracker round. Which was not surprising.
Kevin won the pickle round. Matt then won the dry shampoo, hand sanitizer and the baby wipes round. Why?
They went on for two hours till they had two trolleys filled to the brim with road trip supplies and a dancing Shane who and won their game and had recited twenty of his poems by then. Emma did not feel like recalling any of them.
"Think of everything we can do in that tent," Shane said to Kevin excitedly as everyone else groaned in disgust.
"Hey guys! I just found a huge RV for rent. Should I book it?" Liv asked after running up to them.
"What were you waiting for, baby girl?" Shane asked.
"Shane," Will said in a warning tone
"Yes baby boy?" Shane replied, oblivious to the tone.
"Show me the details then we'll see," Emma said, cracking a smile at Liv.
WILL
"You're packed?" Will asked incredulously, looking at Liv drag her suitcase past his room.
"Yup," Liv replied casually. It was 2 am and they had to leave in about four hours. And Will was headed to Liv's room to help her pack. He had figured that he would help Liv, show how cool he was, then pack his own bags at the last moment. And Liv had now spoiled all his damn plans.
"But women take forever," Will argued.
"Well, I wear most of your t-shirts anyway, so..." Liv trailed off. And that was true. His Nirvana t-shirts were always missing from his closet, and she had taken permanent possession of one of his Linkin Park sweatshirts.
"So you're helping me pack then, right?" he asked.
"Of course," she said, "You're nothing without me anyway."
Will walked up to her and wrapped his arms around his waist, "Correct," he kissed her shoulder, "Now let's leave the suitcase right here, and let's go into my room."
"To pack?" she asked with a smile.
"Uh huh," he said, as she pulled him inside, then kicked the door shut behind her. He kissed her slowly, savoring every moment. There was no stress of exams or graduation hanging on top of them, nor was there any person to disturb them.
***
"What do you think Harvard'll be like," Liv asked, shifting slightly in his arms. They were lying on his bed, staring at the skylight in his room. The moon was right overhead them, casting a beam of soft light through that window.
"Well you'll be there, so I don't care what its like," he said, and Liv chuckled lightly.
"So dramatic," she said, and turned her head slightly to look at him. He pressed his lips on hers again, but she broke away quicker than he wanted to.
"Man I can't believe high school's over," he said to her, running his fingers through her locks, "Remember the day you bumped into me?" he asked.
Liv stiffened, "Yeah...that was kinda planned. Ugh I hate myself every day for that Will, I'm so sorry."
He just kissed her head, "It's okay baby, it's okay. This seems weird, but I'm kinda grateful to Chloe for sending you into my life, one way or another."
And in a moment Liv was on top of him, kissing him furiously.
He pulled away and smiled, "Calm down there, tiger."
They got back into their original position, Liv's head lying on top of his arm, "I don't deserve you, do I?" she asked.
"You deserve the world," he said, and kissed her head again.
MATT
"Stop throwing stuff at me!" Matt shouted, as Emma flung a hoodie towards him.
"It fucking four in the morning, we leave in two fucking hours, and YOU'RE NOT FUCKING PACKED!" she yelled, throwing his alarm clock at him. He ducked and the alarm smashed after hitting the wall behind him.
"What was that for?!"
"I'M SORRY I LOST CONTROL!" Emma shouted, throwing his underwear at him. He blushed as he caught it.
"Um, can I handle my underwear?" he asked quietly, but just had more flung towards him.
"If I let you handle anything, we'll end up leaving at fucking ten in the morning," Emma said loudly, then flung even more underwear at him. One hit him square in the face.
Man he should do laundry more often.
***
And he was all packed half an hour later, working under his dictator girlfriend. She was so damn scary, and equally attractive, when she got all worked up.
"See, we could have done it without you throwing my alarm clock at me!" he said, after he slumped into his bed, his life drained out of him, "What do we do now?"
"Shut up," she said, and jumped on top of him, and began fumbling with his shirt.
"What's up with you?" he asked with wide eyes, his heart thundering inside him suddenly.
"I'm so attracted to you right now," she said, finally undoing all the buttons on his shirt.
"Are you sure?" he asked anxiously, "We can go slow, we have the entire summer ahead of us."
"I want you now."
"But why, all of a sudden?" he asked, as she pulled his shirt away.
"Well, it has to happen," Emma said, then pressed her mouth on his, "Why not now?" she asked against his mouth, her hands running up and down on his bare back.
"Is that why you came over? And why you went crazy and made me pack in an hour?" he asked.
She sighed and slumped down beside him, "You just killed the mood. But yeah."
What happened to her shyness? And well, Matt had always been ready. He had gotten consent, how could he let the opportunity go? Anyways, if life went according to his plan, Emma would be the first and last person he would ever sleep with. So why wait?
"Well, let's bring the mood back on," he said, leaning over Emma, and crashed his lips down on hers, his entire body burning with desire.
PENNY
"Final stop of the night milady," Kyle said, taking a bow, as they crossed the gates and entered into the park. It was 5 am, and they had reached the park after an hour long drive of Penny singing along badly to Ariana Grande.
"I wanted to end it-" he began, but she cut him off, as she tried to hold back the tears that were burning in her eyes.
"-where it all began," she finished, and Kyle smiled at her, before grabbing her hand and dragging her to the exact same bench she had been sitting on, that silent peaceful night at the park, where she had spoken to Kyle for the first time in her life.
He sat down and pulled his guitar out, "You ready."
She choked back all the tears and nodded eagerly. And he strummed the guitar.
"It's just another night
And I'm staring at the moon
I saw a shooting star
And thought of you
I sang a lullaby
By the waterside and knew
If you were here,
I'd sing to you
You're on the other side
As the skyline splits in two
I'm miles away from seeing you
I can see the stars
From America
I wonder, do you see them, too?"
All the memories of the night, came flooding back to Penny. Not only that night. Every night, that Penny had spent with Kyle, in the park, came back to her. It was both nostalgia and torture. Like a friendly tsunami.
All the nights when she was down, and he had sung for her. All the nights when they would see the morning light and would have to bid goodbye. Only this time, she knew that the farewell, it would be a long one. Or maybe the final one.
She shook her head, trying to erase all thoughts out of her head, and sat and listened to Kyle again as he sung ahead, never breaking eye-contact with her.
"So open your eyes and see
The way our horizons meet
And all of the lights will lead
Into the night with me
And I know these scars will bleed
But both of our hearts believe
All of these stars will guide us home"
And he finished playing the guitar.
"And now we've come the full circle," he said, his voice breaking slightly.
She couldn't hold it in anymore. She let the tears fall. One drop fell on her lap. Two drops. Her cheeks were hot, her eyes were burning, and everything blurred around her.
"Baby don't cry," Kyle said, cupping her tear-stained face with his hands. She couldn't even tell if he was crying or not, it was so blurry.
She felt his thumb run across her cheek, wiping the tears away. She rested her forehead on his, and she felt him breathe deeply.
"I love you," she said.
"I know," he said.
She hit him on the hand, "Your supposed to say I love you too, stupid," she said, choking slightly on her tears.
He smiled, and kissed her, and that was the longest kiss of her life. Or maybe it was short but time stood still. They took all the time they wanted, which was ironic, considering that they didn't have time at all. It was slow, sweet, like the breeze blowing around them at that exact moment.
"Remember that night you almost took my eyes out with your sandal?" he asked, and Penny smiled slightly through the tears. There was her man, trying to joke to make the situation less intense.
"So can I have this dance?" she reminisced.
"That was the night I knew I wanted you and only you," he said with a sad smile. Penny could see the sky turn into a light shade of blue around them, his brown eyes looking brighter than ever in the morning light.
"I was so naive and stupid, I didn't know what I wanted," she said.
"Well, I guess you crossed that phase, you're here with me now after all," he said, and she laughed.
"So humble," she said, shaking her head slightly, "Why are you so sure long-distance won't work."
"I don't want to take the chance that it would end badly," he said, not smiling anymore, "I want this relationship to be a beautiful memory, I don't want anything tainting it. And I'm sure long distance will do that."
And the tears came again.
"I'll miss you," she said in a small voice.
