56 - I'll Never Meet The Ground

Hey guys! Sorry for the late update! We are nearing the end now. About three to four chapters more to go. And I'm just so sad this book is about to end. But don't you get sad yet. Enjoy this chapter!

MATT

"Okay, so we'll put some lights here", Emma ordered, as Matt carried the big pile of fairy lights to the base of the tree where Emma wanted to hang them. Matt had always been jealous of Will's backyard. It was fucking huge, with the prettiest trees ever. Not that he would ever say that aloud and sound like his Mom who was crazy about gardening.

Matt had to admit, getting Emma to plan the decoration of the farewell party was a smart move. Even though Matt knew they didn't need any decoration, and almost all of it well get completely ruined by everyone by the end of the night, it really helped distract Emma from all the speech pressure. And the bonus part was, he thought Emma was very hot when she was bossy. And yes, everyone had been telling him he needed mental help from a very long time.

Shane pulled a ladder near the tree, and Matt climbed it to hang the stupid lights. The ladder was getting more and more wobbly as he climbed higher. But Will was holding the ladder steady. So there was nothing to worry about.

"Hey, what are you thinking about doing a major in, in Harvard?", Matt heard Kevin ask Will.

"How about street fights?", Matt heard Shane's voice, and he smiled a little. Will was an awfully violent person after all. When Matt heard an small shrill voice scream "Ow!", he didn't even need to be told that Will and just punched Shane.

"Um, acting?", Emma guessed.

"How about literature?", Liv asked. And Matt turned slightly to look at Will. Why would Liv guess literature?

"Why do you think I would take literature?", Will asked.

"Oh because of your boo....obs", Liv said, and Matt raised his eyebrows. Did Liv just make a comment on Will about boobs?

But Matt wouldn't know what Will said next, because what he actually noticed was that Will wasn't holding the ladder anymore. And Matt finally noticed the distance between him and the ground, and he freaked. He lost balance and shouted Will's name before closing his eye while he plummeted down.

He waited for that moment when he would get splattered onto the ground, but he felt a pair of hands holding him. When he opened his eyes, he could Will looking down at him, pure confusion in his eyes.

"Photo op!", Shane shouted, and Matt heard a clicking sound before Will left him and he fell down.

"Ow! Bitch I'm never trusting you again!", he shouted as he rubbed his ass. Ugh, it was paining so bad.

"The grill's fired up, kids!", Will's dad shouted from the other side of the backyard.

"Sound system has been set up too!", Patrick shouted from yet another corner of the backyard.

"Booze is ready too!", Kevin shouted, from the remaining corner. And yes, Will's dad did not mind drunk kids in his backyard. When Matt had once asked why, Mr. Fisher had simply said, "Have been there too. These are the best days."

Matt sat up and dusted his ass, and he felt a hand on his shoulder, and he felt lips close to his ears. He thought it was Emma.

It turned out to be Shane, "I can dust that off for you if you want."

Matt took a big stride away from the creep, "No thanks bro."

People began arriving half an hour early. They had only invited some selected few people. They wanted this to be a special party, not a rager. Well, maybe a rager, but with people who they knew well. Not random drunkards.

Matt had been talking to Dylan about graduation the next day when the music stopped and Emma shouted, "They'll be here in five minutes! Hide!"

And Matt weirdly chose to climb up a short tree.

PENNY

"You know as much as I love surprises, putting a blindfold just makes me feel like I'm being kidnapped", Kyle said, as Penny lead him through the gates of Will's house. Everything was thankfully silent, as planned.

"Can you seriously shut up?", she asked.

"Okay, if that's what you want", Kyle said, and she saw him smile, and even though she couldn't see his eyes she could imagine them crinkling slightly under the blindfold, highlighting the laugh lines on his face.

And Penny sighed inwardly. Kyle did overly use her overwhelming sense of guilt to his advantage.

"Stop your conscience-triggering nonsense for once", she said, and led him into the backyard and looked around herself. They did do a good job with decoration. It had Emma written all over it.

She gave the signal and took the blindfold off, and everyone jumped out of their hiding places screaming, "Surprise!"

But then Penny heard a scream of terror and a split second later she saw Matt in Will's arms.

"What's your obsession with falling from trees?", Will asked.

"Photo op two!", Penny heard Shane yell and saw a small of photoshoot of Will princess-carrying Matt. And she realised she had completely forgotten about Kyle standing next to her.

She turned to face him, and she could see his eyes taking everything in, including Matt and Will arguing by the tree. And then she saw his face spread into the biggest grin ever, and he hugged her tight.

Others too came to hug him, and he obliged, his grin never leaving his face.

Did he not expect this party at all?

And then Shane began singing/reciting one of his horrendous, offensive poems.

"We are throwing this party for Kyle,

Matt almost hit the tiles,

But Will caught him with style,

And Emma won't loose that file,

We won't mind walking a hundred miles,

Just to see you again, Kyle!"

Penny smiled. The guy finally said something nice. Well, not all of it, as Penny could see Emma hugging that huge binder of hers in a corner. Kyle went over and gave Shane a hug.

When Kyle was done, Penny walked up to him, and she could literally see a silver rim on his eyes. She put an arm around his shoulder, "Aw, my baby is actually crying."

"No I'm not", he lied, and Penny put another arm around him, engulfing him into a tight hug.

WILL

"Hey have you seen Liv?", Will asked Kelly, who looked kind of mad to have her makeout session with Simon interrupted.

"No, now get lost", she said, then began kissing Simon fiercely again, so much that the guy's glasses toppled off. Will moved away from them to get out of earshot range as soon as possible.

He ran into one of his teammates' girlfriends in the hallway.

"Hey have you seen Liv?", he asked her, and she began curling her hair around her finger and began giving him some looks which she was not supposed to give, considering she had a boyfriend.

"I saw her by the grill, talking to this very hot guy on the swim team. And since she is not available, you can do all the stuff you planned to her with me", she said, and Will shook his head.

"Thanks but no thanks", he replied, and then rushed outside to see which son-of-a-bitch Liv was hanging out with.

How did she know Will wanted to major in Literature? He had never told anybody. Not even his parents. Then how did she know?

He was gonna ignore Liv's statement about his boobs, because they made no sense whatsoever. But Will wondered, did she mean to say 'book' by any chance?

He gasped, maybe she knew something about his missing book. What if she read it? Oh god that would be embarrassing. The book was a big collection of his thoughts about her anyways. Well, a majority of them were about Emma too, but he never really took names. He just had to hope that Matt would never get his hands on it, or even if he did, be too dumb to figure out that the girl in the first few chapters was Emma.

He stepped out into the backyard and tried to ignore most of the people partying like their lives depended on it, the terrible sight of Shane and Kevin grinding on each other turn-by-turn, along with at least four girls who had tried to grind on him.

When he reached the other side, away from all the shameless dancing people, he found Liv by the drink stand, talking to this huge dude. And then she laughed loudly, and placed a hand on that guys huge biceps.

And Will had this strong urge to shred the guy to pieces. Dad's shredder was a pretty powerful machine. It was time to test how powerful it really was.

He walked up to them, and placed a hand on Liv's shoulder. Liv turned behind, and he saw her eyes widen slightly.

"Can I talk to you?", he asked.

"Okay then, I'll leave you guys to it", the guy said, in the heaviest, most fake British accent Will have ever heard, "will you come meet me again when you guys are done?", he said with a wink, then sauntered off, lugging that huge body of his away.

"Yes?", Liv asked, looking slightly annoyed.

"Have you seen my book?", he asked.

"Wh-which b-book?", she stammered.

"You made a comment about my book earlier, I thought you would know."

"I made a comment about, you know-", she began, then turned to the dance floor, "Can we talk about this later? Kyle is about to perform."

And it was true. Kyle was sitting on a stool in the center of the dancing area with his guitar, when he motioned to Will. Will ran over and grabbed a mic from the DJ stand, "You guys, here's the best singer in all of LA!", he said, and was thankfully followed by a round of raucous cheering. Will think he actually heard someone say "Marry me!", from the crowd.

Boy that girl was gonna be chopped into pieces and fed to a dog by Penny.

Kyle just grinned, winked at the girl and took the mic from Will, "You guys better pair up! It's time for some pre-graduation slow dancing!"

Christina came beside Kyle and Will handed her a second mic. Yes they went all out for parties. DJ's, mics, sound systems. Will's dad was a model after all. Might as well take some advantage of it right?

Kyle began playing...

"Tell me somethin', girl
Are you happy in this modern world?
Or do you need more?
Is there somethin' else you're searchin' for?"

Will walked back to Liv and held his hand our for her, "Wanna dance?"

Liv looked hesitant but took his hand. Will did not know why he was doing it. He just really wanted to.

So they went to the dance floor and he placed his hand on her waist. She placed one on his shoulder and they held each other's other hand.

"I'm falling
In all the good times I find myself
Longin' for change
And in the bad times I fear myself"

Christina's voice rang out, "Come on people! Dance closer! And I mean Will!"

And Will blushed a little before putting both his hands around Liv's waist, as he felt her put her arms around his neck.

He could hear Christina and Kyle singing in the background.

"I'm off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I'll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can't hurt us
We're far from the shallow now"

Will remembered how obsessed Liv had been with the song and the movie. She never stopped blabbering about how talented Bradley Cooper was. Images flashed into his mind.

The changing room where he said he loved her, Liv jumping off that rock, asking Liv to prom, Liv in her prom dress.

He relaxed a little, and tightened his grip around her. She smelled really good. Like birthday cake.

But then some more images flashed into his mind.

Liv on Matt's back, talking about the first time she had sex. The broom closet with her and Chloe.

Will let go. Liv looked up at him, confused.

"I-I can't", he said, and walked swiftly out of the dance floor and into the house to wash his face.

He was too full of confused emotions to be with her at the moment. Whenever he thought of all the good memories with her, the bad ones popped along, and made him wonder if every good memory was fake.

But he knew he also loved her. But all this was way too complicated.

He needed his book to write in.
