3 - You Say Your Heart Is Made Of Glass

MATT

Was it creepy to just smile at a person walking away from you? When they can't even see your smile?

Will certainly thought so. But Matt couldn't help it.

Penny said 'hey' to him.

He replayed the last sentence in his head. Maybe Will wasn't wrong after all.

But she looked so beautiful today. Her ginger hair was down and she was wearing this blue tank top which accentuated her skin.

Hannah certainly had an influence on his mind.

"What are you still smiling at?" Will grumbled at little, aggressively shoving and pulling out books from his locker.

Could we take a moment of silence for the tomes of knowledge being abused by a heartbroken lad?

Did the last sentence make sense? Matt didn't know half the words but had to use them.

"Hey hey don't take it out on the books," Matt tried to calm his best friend for life for ever or whatever you call it.

"How could she cheat on me?" Will whispered, running a hand aggressively through his hair.

Could we have a moment of silence for the extremely cared for chocolate brown locks being assaulted by the disappointed lad?

"I always told you she was stupid. She is gonna regret ever laying her hand on Stan's filthy body when you move on. Wait, you don't want to get back together with her, like ever, right?"

Matt had to make sure. Heartbroken lads tend to be impulsive.

"Hell to the no man, I would rather choke myself by wrapping my own intestines around my neck."

"Making some violent plans involving death, always a good sign of moving on, am I right?" came a voice from behind Matt. And a second later he was graced by the holy presence of Kyle.

"I could always supply you with some cyanide," came Shane from the opposite direction.

Ah Shane being the beautiful helpful friend they had all come to love. Shane was the epitome of the worst person to go to for comfort. Though he did always seem to have an endless supply of alcohol.

His dark skin gleamed with the sunscreen which he didn't fucking need as he fiddled with the silver chain around his neck.

"Thank you Shane," Will deadpanned as he removed a journal and attempted to put it in the bag unnoticed.

Ha, you could never fool Matt.

"What is that?" Matt questioned, making a grab for the leather bound book.

With the fastest reflexes Matt had seen in his entire life, Will pulled the journal away, "None of your business."

Ouch.

And to think that they had been best friends for eight years now.

And then, on perfect timing as always, the bell rang.

Matt held his Chemistry textbook tightly to his chest as he raced to the Chemistry lab.

He entered, and as always, found Emma sitting on the counter second to the last without a partner.

Time to commence the plan.

He sauntered over, rejecting a few partnering offers from his teammates and some girls.

Why would they want a dumbfuck like him to partner up with, anyway?

He stood over the counter. She did not seem to sense his presence.

Ouch.

He then cleared his throat and put on the widest smile he could muster as she looked up at him with a bored expression.

"Do you want me to move?" she drawled, before beginning to gather her things.

The confusion.

"Why would I want you to do that?"

"Then why are you here?"

Matt pointed to the seat beside her, "Is that seat taken?"

Their class did not have permanent lab partners and thank the Lord for that.

Emma just looked at him, "I prefer working alone."

Why was she being so difficult?

"Please?" He gave her the best pleading expression he could manage.

Emma rolled her eyes before picking her bag up from the chair and setting it down on the floor.

He sat down cheerfully and smiled at her as she looked away and toward her textbook.

"You're Emma, right? Penny's friend?" He began their conversation. He had to make sure she didn't have some evil twin or something that would ruin the plan.

She frowned at him, "Yeah. Why do you ask?"

He relaxed in his seat, "Just wanted to know you."

"And why is that?"

He narrowed his eyes at her in amusement, "You ask a lot of questions you know?"

"Well you are not sitting with the people you usually sit with, and you are smiling creepily at me, and then you expect me not to be suspicious of you?"

Dang she got a point.

Matt cleared his throat, "Let's start this again. I'm Matt-"

"Matthew Lewis, legendary captain of the basketball team. All the girls want to be with him all the guys want to be him yada yada yada. Move on, why are you here?"

And for the first time in his entire life, Matt did not know what to say.

Why had she got him all flustered like that?

"I-", he began.

"Hush the class is about to begin."

And for the next fifteen minutes, Matt watched Emma with amazement as she smoothly picked up and mixed chemicals around following the teacher's instructions without hesitation or help.

Matt had no idea what they were even doing.

Finally, near the end of the class, he mustered up some courage.

"Emma, I wanted to ask you something."

"Hm?"

"Will you be my girlfriend?"

"What?! No!"

Okay so he missed a keyword in the question.

"What's going on over there?" Mr Johnson asked, looking over at them.

"Um, sir, Matt was about to mix sodium into water."

"Well young man, think before acting or you might just your pretty face blown up."

The entire class snickered at that.

Matt looked down in embarrassment as Emma nudged him, "Why are you asking my to be your girlfriend? We barely know each other!"

"Okay I'm just gonna get down to business. I like Penny. And I want to know if she likes me back before I take some stupid step and it blows up in my face. What better way to find out than pretending to date her best friend?"

Emma looked at him with an expression of anger mixed with disgust, "You want me to help you toy with my best friend's feelings? You know my answer to that."

Well time to pull out the big guns.

"I've seen the way you look at Will," he said slowly. She stopped pouring this clear liquid in the flask to stare at him.

"What?"

"Oh don't act so clueless you know exactly what I mean. Maybe you could do the same thing with Will."

She poured the mixture into a different beaker, looking dazed.

"So-" he began but then the most hideous smell infiltrated his nose. Emma pinched hers as well before letting out a series of cusses.

"Shit I messed up, I made hydrogen sulphide."

"Is it poisonous?" Matt asked nervously, holding the neck of his shirt up his nose and Emma's eyes immediately travelled to where his abdomen was exposed.

Who knew she was a perv?

"Yes it is," she replied after a moment.

There was a lot of gas coming out of that small beaker.

"Then run," Matt replied, before bolting out of the classroom, others following suit.
