Chapter 13: Missed Opportunity
The next few weeks sailed right on by, Zoro did in fact find his other cursed sword after some heavy digging. For years now he's been traveling with a hibernating weapon shifter and weren't aware of such until Sabo had informed him greatly about the true attributes of shifters back in the Corrida Colosseum. Zoro knows the sword is in a comatose state just like you were, how else is he able to run around with it without being it's master?
Now the Swordsman travels the New World with not one but two Weapon Shifters strapped to his hip. The crew tries to ignore the fact that you're no longer there with them, sort of like you weren't there to begin with. Zoro was doing the best ignoring your existence. It were almost haunting how he can be heartbroken one day and act as if nothing at all happened the next and has been the same since. He has to be suffering, however nobody could tell if the man were or not. Zoro had built himself a wall and nobody has been able to chisel through it. Now your bed in the girl's dorm was tucked away into storage, the girls felt weird having it there otherwise. Your clothes and belongings were packed away as well for the same reasoning. Everything except Shanks' sword, Zoro wants to return that to the Red Haired Pirate eventually.
"Sabo!" Luffy cheered as a red flame danced up and down the deck of the Thousand Sunny. The crew found his return uplifting, even though most of them never met the blonde in the first place. It was nice having their Captain's brother drop in, it were one of few times Luffy were at his happiest. Luffy darted around, trying to catch the flame, not very bright of the rubber boy, but they let him do his thing. Luffy got tired of Sabo's evading and stretched out his arm to wrap around the flame. Sabo quickly shifted from yellow hot flames to a human to avoid burning his brother, only to get roped into a huge backbreaking hug. "What took you so long? I missed you!" Luffy chuckled.
"Keep in mind that I'm a man with responsibilities Luffy," Sabo pats him on the back.
"He doesn't care," Nami snickered.
"Whatever Luffy says, goes," Usopp joined in on the reunion.
"What's up with the sudden reappearance?" Robin stepped forwards, pleased to see the blonde all so soon.
"Oh, right," Sabo began to pry himself from Luffy's death grip. Franky and Sanji had to intervene in order to save Sabo. Luffy frowned as Sabo dusted himself off, fixing his clothes and pressing out the wrinkles in his dress shirt. "I came here for your Swordsman," the blonde began. "I think his name was Zoro, the one with the green sword," Sabo searched around, gazing at every member of the crew and stepped before Zoro. Zoro frowned hearing Sabo were there for him. This won't end well.
"Did you ever sort out your girl problem? If so, I'd like to see her and make sure she's okay-"
"No..." Zoro's voice were deep, laced with hatred. "(Y/n) is still a sword even after we fixed her. She's gone," just bringing up the subject put Zoro into a sour mood dangerous to anyone near him. The swordsman spun on his heel.
"Before you leave," Sabo spoke up, not willing to give in on the problem. "I think you should hear me out," Zoro gazed over his shoulder, his steel gaze blazing with fury. "I know one way to bring her back."
Zoro huffed, it eased him even if just a little. He spun back around and crossed his arms. "Get on with it," he barked the order.
"Well, quite simply, you can pull a weapon shifter from their comatose hibernation if another weapon shifter were to willingly take the place of the hibernating shifter," Zoro left suddenly. The news were of no use to him. It left the crew speechless. "A-Are you kidding me?"
"He's been... Like this," Nami sighed. "We learn not to bring up (Y/n)."
"But I have a shifter with me..." Everyone perked up as Sabo pulled back one side of his coat, an array of tools lined his belt, but a small silver and floral engraved pistol with a wooden handle stood out above the rest. Sabo's gloved hands brushed over it, bringing it out into the light for everyone to see.
"That's a shifter?" Usopp tuts. "I know my guns and that's a rather pathetic model of gun that was phased out from production and markets due to their lack of ammo. They're accurate guns don't get me wrong, but they can only shoot one round before you have to pull the entire thing apart to reload. So, unless you plan to end a fight with one shot, this gun is useless," Usopp felt rather proud pulling that information out of the folds of his brain. He could thank his father for the information. Before he left to sail the world with Red Haired Shanks, Yasopp would only allow Usopp to use this model of pistol to prevent injury but to also teach his son the many parts of a gun and how it works since complete deconstruction was necessary just to reload. Pathetic gun in combat, but a prize for the purpose of teaching.
"Shifter or not, it is rather useless in battle," Sabo snickered.
Rather bold of you to say when you know for a fact I can blow your brains out...
Came a deep hearty voice that resounded from the gun before it engulfed itself with a bright blinding light. This transformation were a flawless copy of your own. The ball of light took the shape of a towering man with broad shoulders and rippling muscles, and this were before the light disappeared! Once the light faded from the male's body, he were covered in brown furs from many different animals from head to toe. His face were taunting yet his smile reassured and melted any and all fear away from those who gazed upon him. His short head hair were red as blood, a scruffy beard of the same color, hair so red Luffy almost called the burly man Shanks by accident!
"I would have never guessed a man like you could be a gun so small..." Usopp's legs quivered and shaked.
"That's only my travel size!" The man howled. "I'm much larger than that!!! SO LARGE NOBODY CAN USE ME!!!"
"He's not wrong," Sabo snickered. "Only giants can use him, which is why he's never in his weapon form. Rendering him rather useless," the large man were so boisterous, Sabo being the more professional of the two. The crew couldn't help but think the man were Sabo's substitute for Luffy whenever the two are separated. But again, why did Sabo drag him along?
"Why'd you bring this Barbarian here?" Usopp was glad to meet the weapon shifter, but rather his presence wasn't needed because of Zoro's stubbornness to cooperate. Does he want you to remain a sword forever?
"He's actually willing to take (Y/n)'s place and remain a weapon forever," Sabo pats the man on the arm.
"REALLY!?" Everyone gasped.
"Because he's useless as a weapon, he's rather useless in person as well. He's too loud and jumps head first into everything. He's not fit for the Revolutionary Army..." Sounds just like Luffy, nearly everyone thought in unison.
"If I can't do whatever I want, then I might as well make myself useful and help a little lady out," Immediately, the Barabarian had gotten Sanji's approval being a man to the ladies.
Sanji held a hand to his heart, "if the Barbarian is willing to take (Y/n)'s place, then I say we drag the Mosshead right back out here... It's no secret that we all miss (Y/n)," acting like you didn't exist wasn't cutting it. The blonde wandered around the Sunny, searching for Zoro. It didn't take all that long as Sanji stumbled upon Zoro standing before the headpiece of the Sunny's cheerful lion. In both of his hands he held one sword. In his left, were the sword of black steel and jade ribbons. In Zoro's right, were his previously lost sword with a red handle and golden hilt.
"Why can't either of you wake up?" Zoro sighed as he spoke to both swords. Sanji grew stunned, darting off to the side to listen to Zoro some more without the Swordsman to feel intruded upon. "You both chosen me to become your Master, you both protect me, come to my aid in fights... All I ask is for you both to wake up. It doesn't even have to be both of you, one will do."
"Right..." Sanji frowned. "Sabo said that cursed swords are shifters. He's had that other sword since before the Grand Line... Whatever," The blonde stepped out from behind Nami's tangerine tree. "Zoro, you need to come back!"
"I want nothing to do with Sabo," Zoro growled.
"He brought along a shifter who's willing to take (Y/n)'s place. Let's get her back-"
"Shut the hell up!" Zoro lurched forwards, piercing Sanji's throat with the tip of your sword. "This is my problem, I'll get (Y/n) back on my own."
"It's not your fault (Y/n) got hurt!" Sanji swiped you away.
"(Y/n) kept begging me to take the nightwatch with her and even when I did I fell short and she got captured. (Y/n) got captured because I didn't watch the ship well enough, therefore, it's my fault (Y/n) is no longer with us," Zoro sheathed his swords, turning back towards the sea. "If I could take her place... I would."
"This is your only opportunity to get (Y/n) back," Sanji kept pushing and pushing on the subject. "Sabo said it himself, some shifters never escape their hibernation. There's a Barbarain out there who's willing to take her place cause he has no other purpose in life. This is just like grieving over a loss, either get over it or bring her back!"
"Then I'll get over it," Zoro completely brushed Sanji off.
"Fine..." Sanji huffed, greatly disappointed with Zoro's final decision. "At least use this opportunity to bring back the other sword you have," Zoro went stiff. "The other sword has been in hibernation long before you stumbled upon it, therefore, you aren't responsible. At least do him or her a favor," the other sword was another story indeed. Zoro hadn't even given thought about bringing him/her back with this once in a lifetime opportunity.
"I can't..." Zoro put a heart to his chest, guilt settling in the heaviest it ever were. "It'd be unfair to (Y/n). I can't do it..."
"Fucking swallow your pride and accept the damn help!" Sanji kicked the side of the ship out of pure rage, leaving a huge hole that he knows Franky will get all upset about. Doesn't matter now, blame Zoro for all he cares. Sanji won't look at him the same ever again.
Okay, so I lied. There's one last chapter and I have it already uploaded.
