Prologue
(y/n) POV
I moved to Mystral with my dad when I was five. He used to work as a scientist when we lived in Atlas, then one day Dad packed our bags and we left. He was killed last month in a mugging. I've been living with a classmate and her mother, Pyrrha and Thetis Nikos. "(y/n) you have a few packages. Some are a bit heavy, do you mind helping me carry them in?" Thetis asked as she entered my room.
"Yeah of course." I said as I got up and walked downstairs with her.
After I got the boxes up into my room I opened them and found everything Dad left me. Most were his research notes which I was supposed to burn, but one box had a led-lined box inside. I opened it and found a gauntlet and a note. '(y/n), if you're reading this, then I'm most likely dead. I'm sorry but I must ask you to defend this device with your life. Destroying it is impossible, I've tried. This device is called the Reflector Core. It utilizes a special dust aptly named time dust. It can slow time to a near halt or speed up your personal time. However, this is not its main purpose. I want to make this very clear, this is not a time machine. Think of it as a save point. You can set a designated point and then by activating it you can travel to a parallel reality to that exact point. It's an immensely powerful weapon in the wrong hands, so don't do anything stupid. I love you son. -Dad' the note read.
"What was all of that?" Thetis asked, "Stuff my Dad left me. Mostly to burn." I said, "Are you alright?" she asked as she handed me a cup of tea, "I'll be fine." I said, "Would you like help burning whatever it is you need to?" she asked, "Please, I don't think I can do it." I said, "Then let's get this done." she said with a smile.
"Thetis, I think I'm gonna enter the Mystral Tournament." I said, "Well then I'll cheer you on. And if you and Pyrrha end up fighting I'll do my best to cheer you both on." she said.
"If this thing works like a save point then let's test it out." I said as I tapped one of the four crystals, suddenly my every movement sped up like I hit the fast forward button on a remote! I hit the opposite crystal and time slowed to barely a crawl. I tapped it again and time returned to normal. I hit the center crystal and nothing happened, "I hoped that the big one would do something cool, guess that's the load button." I said as I hit the crystal below it, "I'll wait a few hours to see if it worked." I said.
I ended up forgetting to test the load button, by the time I realized, the tournament was about to begin. "Oh well, no point in testing it now." I sighed.
I breezed through the tournament easily since I could speed up my attacks. It's hard to block or dodge three strikes happening at once from two different directions. The finals came down to me and Pyrrha as expected. "Don't you dare hold back." I said, "I wouldn't dream of it." Pyrrha said as she took her stance.
Irene POV
"And that's a wrap!" the photographer said. I went to my dressing room and started to undress when one of my friends came in, "Irene, your back! What happened?" she asked worriedly as I quickly put on my robe to cover my scars, "Don't worry about it. It's just an old injury from my childhood. What did you need?" I asked with a fake smile before continuing to get changed behind a partition, "You got a letter, from Beacon." she said handing me the open letter, "Sorry I got excited thinking it was for me, but I'm happy you got in." she said as I read the letter. "I feel like celebrating. I think I'll go get a tattoo. I'm thinking a pair of wings." I said as we walked out.
Drew POV
"Hey Mom, me again. I just wanted to tell you I got into Beacon. I know you're busy, you've got other kids to look after. Oh, I ran into Winter the other day...I thought she was you. She forgot about me. You all did...guess I'm just the bastard son from Mantle. It's alright 'cause soon I'll be...", "I'm sorry the voicemailbox of, Willow Schnee, is full. Please try again later." an automated message said, "Come on Mom. At least pretend to care." I said as I put my scroll away and grabbed my bag.
I went to the shipping yard and started tagging the containers, "Don't move." a man said, "Hi Ironwood." I said as I dropped the spray paint and turned around. "Come on Tex. Why do you do this to yourself?" he asked as he put his gun away, "Don't know, have you tried asking my mom?" I said, "Fine then I have no choice." Drew Tex, you're under arrest." he said, "FOR WHAT?! LAST TIME I CHECKED THIS ISN'T A CRIME!" I said as he moved my cloak, "You're right, but possession of a weapon outside Academy grounds is." He said as he took my pistols and put me in handcuffs.
"The owner of those containers wants to have a word with you. Try to keep your temper." Ironwood said before leaving, and as the door opened I was almost excited, my mother was finally coming to see me! "Do you have any idea how expensive it will be to repair the damages you caused!" Jacques snapped as he entered the room and broke my heart. "Just leave me alone." I said, "Oh I intend on it. I want nothing to do with you or your god-awful father. I'm paying him enough to stay away." he said as he flicked some lent off his coat, "YOU BASTARD!" I snapped as I lunged forward, but was stopped by the handcuffs, "YOU'RE THE REASON HE'S DEAD! HE WAS WORKING IN YOUR MINES AND BECAUSE YOU CHEAPED OUT ON SAFETY EQUIPMENT HE DIED IN A CAVE-IN!" I yelled, "I have no recollection of this." he scoffed, "It was ten years ago!" I growled, "I'm sorry to hear that." he said, "I'll drop the charges against my company. But I want you to stop calling my wife." he said.
Irene POV
"Are you happy with this?" My friend asked, "Yeah, it feels almost...nostalgic." I said as I looked at my tattoo in the mirror. "So about those scars." she said, "Maybe I'll tell you about it someday." I said admiring her work.
(y/n) POV
I rushed in and slashed at Pyrrha, but she blocked. I tried again and she knocked my sword far across the arena. I jumped away sped up time and grabbed my sword before attacking. I was able to knock her shield away, but I could never land a critical strike on her. She slashed at me before transforming her spear into a rifle and shot at me, I dodged and ran in to attack. I was about to throw a punch when time slowed. I looked down and saw Pyrrha's hand had touched the crystal while her sword was about to strike me. I looked around and saw Thetis looked nervous for her daughter for the first time, I leaned in next to Pyrrha's ear, "We'll call it a draw." I said as I returned time to normal, Pyrrha hit me across the arena before she threw her spear next to my head so I had to surrender. "Congrats on your fourth straight win." I said as I returned her weapon to her, "Thank you." Pyrrha said.
