He took off his apron and put it on one of the hooks in the back. He was leaving the cafe later than usual since he had help out with more of the cleanup with one of the busboys out sick. He put on his own jacket and checked the time on his phone. It wasn't too late, but already partway into the evening and he was hungry. He still opened the internet app on his phone and searched for the nearest cat shelter. Unfortunately, they were already closed.

He sighed to himself and walked out the back of the cafe. Maybe he'd just drown himself in pastries when he got home. It was much sunnier today than the previous day had been, but still just as cold. He pulled his jacket tighter around him. He even walked home the same way, but little Aoumi wasn't in the spot where he'd found her before.

He pulled out his keys and yawned when he got close to his apartment building. He heard a little mew and looked down, nearly stumbling over Aoumi who was walking right between his feet.

"Aoumi?" He had to be sure it was the same cat. She looked up at him with her big, blue eyes and flicked her ears.

He smiled and knelt down and started to pet her head. "Hey Aoumi, I thought I might never see you again." She happily nuzzled her head against his hand. He covered his mouth with his other hand. She was just too cute. "Want to come inside? It's too cold to stay out here." He didn't exactly wait for her to respond. He scooped her up with one hand. She lightly batted at him and let out a dissatisfied meow, but soon made herself comfortable on Kagami's shoulder and let him carry her inside.

When he was inside his apartment with the door closed, Aoumi jumped off Kagami's shoulder and started circling the living room floor. "I missed you today," Kagami said as he sat down and tried to get her to come to him. Unfortunately, that only made Aoumi turn her face away from Kagami and swish her tail in his face. "You really do have quite an attitude." He laughed and stood up. "Let me get you something to eat."

He went to the kitchen. He got some of the food scraps he had that would be okay for Aoumi and put them on a bowl. He got some food for himself too since it seemed that he'd be spending most of his evening playing with Aoumi. He brought the bowls over to the living room and set one down in front of Aoumi. She looked at him for a moment and looked back down at the food. When she started eating, Kagami did too.

"You know, if you keep coming around here, I'll have to stock up on some actual cat food." He laughed a little as he kept talking to Aoumi. "Maybe if I make you food, you'll keep coming back. I do like having the company. I didn't realize how lonely my apartment was until you stayed with me last night." He took a large bite and nodded to himself. "Yes, that's what I'll do. I'll entice you with food to keep you coming back. You don't seem to belong to someone, so I'll just... adopt you."

She looked at him and flicked her ears. Kagami smiled. "Well, you're not hissing at me, so I guess I'm not too bad of a human for you to live with." He laughed more and moved a hand to pet her fluffy, black fur. He leaned over and kissed the top of her head. He smiled when he even her heard her purring.
