Alpha Base

"Wake me, when you need me."

Your POV

I secured a bandage over the arm of a crewman who had been cut by a plasma blase. He groaned as a marine applied a plasma burn goo under the bandage. "Survived an elite?" I asked the marine. "Yep. Lucky bastard was grazed when he jumped into the pod." The marine explained.

We helped him back into the seat, and secured the bar over him. "How much longer until we get to the base? I swear it didn't take you that long to transport the others." I asked once I got up to the cockpit. "Now much longer, now stop bitchin." Echo-419 said as she tapped some buttons.

I nodded before going back and taking a seat opposite the Spartans. They were doing a blank look around the space, so I looked back at my GPMG. I looked over it's pain, and the anime girls I had over it. It was a lot of paperwork to even be able to do the latter.

It was still in good condition, and so were the visable parts. The mounting block, to be able to connect it to a firing stand, was somewhat chipped though. I ran a finger over the letters I had carved into the gun itself, seeing they were still readable.

I noticed movement in the top of my vision, and looked up to see both of the Spartans looking straight at me. We stared at each other for a bit before Cortana spoke up. "Look, I'm all for a staring contest, but this silence is deafening." "I mean, I could get my picture taken." I suggested.

"I thought it was against regulations to have that level of cosmetics on weapons." Linda steered the conversation to the left. "Normally, yes. But if you can get on good terms with both the quartermaster, and keep the local knuckleheads in line, then nobody is gonna get on your ass that often." I explained.

She nodded at that answer. "Where's your squad?" Chief decided to ask. "Reach. Was the heavy weapons specialist of Fireteam Haven." I explained. "Wait, Fireteam Haven? Reports listed all members KIA." Cortana said.

"Well, lets just say this isn't the first time I've dug out of the mud after a clusterfuck. How I made it to the Autumn before it took off." I explained. We stayed silent for the rest of the trip. Only the groans of wounded, and the shake of the pelican touching down were made.

The back opened up, allowing us out. The wounded were taken away before we were allowed out. Waiting for us was Major Silva, and a woman beside him in ODST armor. "Major." I gave a salute. "Lance Corporal." He said, pausing to look at the Spartans.

"Spartans. I'm told you're the ones carrying Cortana." He said. "Yes." Chief said. "Great, follow me." He said, turning. The woman followed him, and then us. "While you were all cosy in your lifeboats, we were busy getting this place set up." He explained as we entered what looked like a command tent.

Once inside we then surrounded a holotable. Chief put Cortana's datachip into a port, and she appeared. "Now that you're here, we can start getting things more organized." Silva said to Cortana. "Then lets get even more so. I've got the Captain's location, and the ship he's held in." She explained.

"Well, that certainly helps." A man said from the other side of the table. "The ship he's held in? We don't have the manpower, or the equipment for an assault." The woman said. "Then why dont we go in incognito?" I suggested.

"Once again, don't have the equipment. Hell, you're one of the few on base who have a silenced weapon." The woman explained. "I've already drawn up a rough plan, courtesy of the the Covenant's non encrypted battlenet." Cortana explained, pulling up some holograms.

"Three teams, two to secure the gravlift ferrying toops and supplies to the Truth and Reconciliation, and a third to come in after for reinforcements. We do this at night." Cortana explained. "Add a forth to go with the third." Silva interjected.

"Major?" The woman asked. "While the Spartans may be good, I can spare no expense when it comes to the rescue of the Captain." Silva explained. "But sir, with the troops sent to secure supplies from the Autumn, we'll be understaffed here in case of attack." The woman explained.

"Without the Captain, there'll be no Alpha Base to defend." Chief said. "And not to mention, breaking into and getting out of a ship wouldn't be silent. A few quick strikes here and there would be enough." I said.

"I'll get three of the teams ready for tonight. Your ODSTs are comprising the fourth." The man said to Silva. "I'll go with the Spartans and LC. I'm needed to break though the ship's security systems." Cortana said.

"I've got Fireteam Raven ready for orders. Remember people, we can NOT fuck this up." Silva said, though I felt like he aimed the last part at someone in particular. Cortana stayed in the command tent to sort things out while everyone else got ready for tonight.

Me on the otherhand? I visited the makeshift armory, and then found a very comfy crate to nap on out of the way. However, as I was falling asleep, I could've sworn I saw a flash of green in the corner of my eye.

Oh well, I need to sleep.

(917 Words. I've decided to make a little in between chapter. I kinda need to do this every now and then for some character development and feelings to take place. Well, it's 1:21AM right now, and I need some sleep myself. See you all next Sunday.)
