Chapter 24- Control

Dear Diary.

I'm worried. I am extremely worried about all of us. Blaza, Laff, Socks, Dino, Oompa, Tbh, and me. Now though, I have even more to worry about. Joocie, Ally, Oof, and Tbvg are all visiting in three days, and we've barely done anything to help get back to normal apart from cleaning. Another reason I'm worried: the ghosts basically disappeared. I'm not sure where they went or where they are, but I haven't seen any of the three since Sunday, September 22, 2021. (Don't ask why I put the date. It's for researchers when I die, okay? Actually, scratch that, I have no idea why I did that.) Then there's Socks and Laff. Laff has been fine, but Socks has been gradually getting worse. He's not the same friend I've always known. Heck, he's even forgetting his own name at times. Three days ago it was maybe once or twice, but now it's almost every hour. He seems to be getting harsher with the way he talks, acts, and thinks. The red irises with white are getting more and more common, along with the incidences of Gulvic and from what Ryzo has said, "Wulvic" and "Drulvic". I think Oompa is right. It's not two sided anymore. It's slowly becoming one sided, and not in a good way. I don't know what to do anymore, not like I ever did. I don't want to lose one of my closest friends. I guess you could say this is all Meme's fault, but if Socks and Tbh didn't get hurt, none of it would've happened at all. Everything is so much pressure, and I'm just scared.

-Nadwe

PS. I'm writing in pen now because "Wulvic" stole my pencil. I'll try to get it back but I don't know if I'll be able to.

PSS. Got it back!!

I had just written a small note below my diary entry after I had snatched my pencil back from Wulvic's grip. He just stood there for a couple seconds, clearly surprised that I yanked it right out of his claws so easily. The petulant possession then gave me a pouty expression, giving a sign that he was about to start whining to attempt to get the utensil back. I knew his trick by now: Guilt tripping.

"Dat's my pwensle.."

I stifled some laughter, and mocked,

"Did you just say pretzel?"

"No! Prensule!!"

"Prancer?"

"PENCIL!"

"Oh, well you could've said that. And no, this is my pencil, Wuli, not yours."

"But- but why is it yowers?"

"Because I had it first, and I've always used this pencil."

I let myself think for a second, and I started wondering why I was arguing over a pencil with someone who could kill me anytime.

"But, if you say the magic word, you can have it."

His face said that he didn't know what I was talking about, but then he remembered.

"Neaadway..?"

"Wuuuulvic?"

"Can I pweaze have da pwensul?"

"Yes, you may."

His face illuminated with excitement, and his red pupils literally glowed brighter. The ringed eyes also pulsed a few times as he ran to me. He held out his hands for the pencil, and I placed it in the plam of his hands. The childish demon held the pencil in awe, almost like it was an artifact that was worth millions. He whispered as if he were next to a sleeping lion,

"Fank you.."

"You're welcome, buddy."

He gave me a small smile before backpedaling to his previous spot, and sitting down on the wooden floor of my room. I swiveled back around on my wooden stool to continue filling up my diary, which was now half Gulvic notes. I've noted and wrote down a lot more over the past seven days, ever since "Wulvic" and "Drulvic" have first showed.

I like Wulvic, which I gave the nickname Wuli, not only because he acted like a child and was harmless, but also because I felt like we had some kind of connection with each other. He seemed to look up to me and always went to me first. He might be a stress-reliever for himself, but he's also a stress reliever for me. He always listened to me, even if he didn't understand. He always gave me hugs at the randomest times, be it in the middle of a conversation to when I'm having a snack.

There's also Drulvic, or as I dubbed 'Depresso Expresso'. He's a lot to handle. Drulvic is always making a mess of tears and sadness, figuratively and literally. It just annoys me. He's always bothering us and wanting attention.

I'd like to think that these two are just Gulvic experiencing different emotions, but it's so hard to believe. They are completely different versions of him, only from feeling happy or upset. From what I've heard from Ryzo, the names are just a way to distinguish how he's feeling apart from his eyes and behavior. Apparently there's another one, but I'm not sure what it might be. Anger? Disgust? Fear? Who knows at this point.

If I'm being honest, and as I said in my diary entry, I'm seeing more Gulvic than Socks at this point. I'm not sure if that means something. Socks has been acting strangely when he is around though, and most of the time it's not even the real him. It's just this crappy, red-glowy-eyed thing. He forgets things, usually has a random attitude, and isn't as gregarious and friendly as he used to be. He still has some control over Gulvic, but not much. Honestly, this is about the eighth time I've seen Wulvic this week, and it's already Wednesday. My only real, unanswered question is how long do we all have?

I just sat there, staring at my tree-bark colored tophat with a pastel red-pink ribbon and the puncture wound that was still there from over a week ago. Gulvic had only punched through the first wall of the hat with his chest tongue, not all the way through. I then heard a familiar voice from behind me, coming from down on the floor.

"Where.. am I.."

I swiveled around to face my bed, and quickly lifted my feet off the ground to rest them on it. I then snapped my neck around to see who it was. Tentacles were gone, eyes had a white sclera, irises were chestnut brown, and his unnatural chest mouth was gone. It was the real him for once. He started to get back on his feet, and once he did, I tackled him in a hug. Socks let out a yelp of surprise before realizing that this wasn't supposed to be a knock-Gulvic-out attack.

"Heh.. hi.. Nadwe?"

"Hey, Socks."

Even though he questioned himself about what my name was, I didn't care. It was nice to finally have him back, even if it wasn't for long. I caught a glimpse of his teeth when he spoke, and they still seemed as sharp as Gulvic's. I think he was a bit nervous as well, because he bit his lip out of habit, which obviously hurt with his knives for teeth. The man looked sleep deprived and exhausted, and he probably was. He didn't even have that much of a reaction from making his lip bleed. Socks hasn't been in control for more than an hour or two at a time lately, so his body hasn't had a break either. Socks mumbled the question,

"Uh, we're in your room, right?"

"Can't you tell by the mess?"

"Is that a yes?"

"Yes, it is."

"Cool."

I was about to back out of the hug when I felt an uneasy feeling go over the room. It was like someone was screaming into my brain, wailing at the top of their lungs that something horrible, deplorable was about to happen. Maybe it was the vampire side of me. Maybe it was just my proactive mind. Before I could take any kind of action, Socks pushed himself out of my grasp, and slightly backed away.

"Are you okay?"

The red glow in his eyes brightened slightly, maybe out of being interacted with. We still didn't know what it meant.

"Of course I am, kid.. now I gotta take care of some things."

"Like what?"

"Why do you want to know.."

The glow flickered, probably out of anger and annoyance.

"Because I want you to stop and get a hold of yourself. I can tell you're being hurt."

Red-eyed Socks stayed silent, maybe out of confusion, maybe out of anger, or maybe out of trying to get out of the conversation. Then, he simply answered,

"I'm not being hurt."

"Well you're hurting emotionally! Everyone can tell! Those kinds of pains don't stop or heal quickly unlike cat scratches."

"Are you comparing Gulvic to a cat?"

"What- no- English was never your first language was it?"

"I thought you knew that about him by now. Also why are you talking to me as if I'm Gulvic?"

"Whatever, that's all off topic. Ignore me. Just tell him to stop affecting you. Fight him if you need to. It's only a matter of time until you forget who you are!"

"Who said that I haven't already."

I shut myself up to digest what had just come out of Socks' possessed mouth. We knew this is what Gulvic came to do, and we let him accomplish it. Make Socks into his vessel to get revenge on humans, that's it. Just because of a war that happened 800-something years ago.

Wait..

When Gulvic said to Socks, 'You're turning into me, I'm influencing you.' he wasn't messing around. The red irises probably meant that Socks was being affected or influenced by him. I started to tear up at the thought of losing yet another friend.

"Gulvic, you realize you're doing the very thing that you want revenge for, right?"

Socks' eyes became black once again, and Gulvic just stared at me.

"How do you know about that.."

"I'm a night owl, and you kinda talk in your sleep so.. I know a bit."

"You frornanzaiten yhenj-"

"I'm guessing that's hybrodeic again? Like crindni?"

I got an aggravated sigh for an answer, only for him to walk to the door to exit the room. I dashed over to the door before he could, and blocked it. I nearly knocked over the trash-can in the corner of my room with my foot.

"You're not leaving until you stop hurting Socks."

"Move."

"Nope. Stop possessing Socks first."

"I said, move."

"Are you in a rush?"

"If you don't move I'll do it for you."

"You don't scare me anymore when you do these things."

"So you want me to scare you?"

"What, no! I never said that-"

Before I could finish my sentence, Gulvic's eyes became pitch black with no pupils, like when he first infected Laff. He also opened his chest mouth, which I've only seen him use a few times to eat or stab. It revealed rows of teeth that resembled enlarged wasp stingers, along with a tongue that might as well have been a sharpened snake. Black liquid intermittently dripped from the artificial jaw, going along with the black that had just covered his forearms. A spurt of black from his eyes and a deep growl was my cue to take flight. Or.. to fight.

I grabbed the empty trash-can on my right, and dunked it on the spaceman's head. This, in turn, made his visor fall over his eyes making him see nothing but orange, along with a metal, meshy cage that smelled like rotten bananas surrounding his head. I grasped the doorknob on my right and nearly fell backwards. I had all my weight against the door, making it give out. I regained my balance, and slammed the door behind me, keeping Gulvic locked in my room just long enough to escape the deathtrap. I looked behind myself out of paranoia, with the only thing I found being Meme's old room. I dismissed any new emotions, transformed into my bat-self, and dashed around the corner to my left. Speeding down the hall, I passed Blaza, Laff, and Tbh's rooms, following by turning right and passing Socks' room and the basement door as well. It still looked banged up from Woolf's incident, despite the desperate attempts to make it look like it belonged in the pre-infection era.

I flung myself into the room next to the stairs, nearly hitting the furthest wall and ironically getting a lot of stares from the people in the room. This included everyone, as well as what seemed to be Blaza's hoodie.

No time to question that now.. we're all about to die.

Tbh asked me,

"Nadwe? What's going on?"

"It's Gulvic! He's gone crazy!"

"Not like that's new.."

"I'm not joking! His eyes are dark red circles!"

Ryzo suddenly and quickly took control of Laff, which made everyone unsettled. Of course it would, why wouldn't it? He sternly asked,

"Where is he?"

"Uh, I don't know! Somewhere either in my room or down the hall trying to find me.."

"What did you do to make him angry?"

"All I did was bring up a point about how he is doing the exact thing he wants revenge for.. then he just got all rigid."

Everyone gave me a confused yet expecting expression.

"I'll explain after we all aren't about to be killed."

"So you proved him wrong?"

"I guess so.."

Ryzo snickered at my response, following with,

"Yeah, don't do that-"

"But he-"

Deep, demonic growling shook the room because it was so loud. I could've compared it to a truck motor. I might not have been standing on the ground, but I still felt it as I was flying there. In the doorway, Gulvic was just standing there, his stare stabbing right through me.

Oh god, what did I do-

Ryzo basically saved me by starting a conversation.

"Hey, Browlvic!"

"..."

"Now, I know you're angry, but let's not try to kill people, okay?"

He got a growl as a response.

"Could we try using words instead of growls? We're people after all.."

"We're hybrids you crindni.."

"I meant people as in standing on two legs, being cognitively strong enough to come up with ideas for civilization. You know, all the things intelligent beings share. And when I say intelligent beings or 'people' I mean humans and hybrids.. calm down."

"Don't tell me to calm down.."

"Could you though? I never really feel like fighting an 821 year old hybrodeic possession that probably isn't even as strong as you make out to be.."

Ryzo what the heck are you doing..

"If you don't want to fight me I suggest you shut up, Big-mouth.."

"Oh, so we're name calling now?"

"You just described the definition of big-mouth. Anyways, why are you trying to help them?"

"I'm sorry, were you ever my boss?"

"Technically-"

"No. That's right. I can do what I want."

"So you are protecting them."

"Yep. I don't care what you say."

"You backstabbing yhenj.."

"Oh, I've already needed to go through 807 years of self-loathing and isolation; I don't think I need to figure that out about myself.."

Is that supposed to be a flex..?

"AND I DON'T NEED ANOTHER HYBRID BETRAYING ME AGAIN, SO WOULD YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH?!"

-Sub. Socks POV-
I knew I needed to stop this. How the heck was I supposed to?! Every time I tried and had gotten close to taking control of the situation, Gulvic figuratively and literally smacked me out of it. I had no idea what to do at this point, and Gulvic was ready to kill everyone in the room. He might as well have been ready to blow up a bomb with a button in his hand— no wait— he would be the bomb in this situation, with his anger about to press the button. Whatever, not important.

I decided that I'd try one final time.. and if it didn't work I don't know what would. I slowly crept up to the front from the back of my mind, near Gulvic. Before I could even do anything else, a tentacle wrapped around my torso, squeezing me like I was a guinea pig and it was a ball python. I was lifted up into the air, suspended from what seemed to be around five feet. Glowing, red, hollow circles slowly crept across the darkness of my mind, staring at me and staying locked in place. My mind suddenly gained a violent, dark atmosphere, with the black spreading across it like wildfire.

"Uhm.. Gulvi-"

A tentacle whipped around and wrapped around my mouth so I could not speak. Both of the tentacles started tightening and squeezing, the red circles locked on me still. The squeezing then got painful. I tapped the tentacle around my torso to try to give the message it was starting to hurt. No avail. It got even worse, almost like a cat was scratching across my insides, and tree branches were lined up along it on the outside. I tapped again, harder this time, but the tentacles kept squeezing. The bottom half of the red circles were gone, like someone was smiling.

"You're going to kill me aren't you.."

My question was answered by a pulse of squeezing in both tentacles.

"Yep, yep, yep.. I take that as a yes?"

I will never forget the voice. It wasn't just normal Gulvic, no. This was pure evil. Might as well been a demon straight from the depths of hell because his voice was the deepest, darkest, most disturbing voice you'll ever hear. It wasn't even Gulvic anymore- well.. maybe it was. He was just a shadowy-looking figure with three little things floating above his head. Two more dots then appeared, but they were a darker red compared to the other two. Now there was four, nearly forming a square. He said,

"Oh, you're most absolutely correct.. unless you surrender all of your control to me."

I was shaken by his voice alone, so terrified that in fact my throat went dry. I could barely speak. Not like I could since my mouth was covered. My subconscious brain was so jumbled up I couldn't think straight. I then felt the tentacle cover my nose.

I couldn't breathe.

I didn't have a choice.

I tried to breathe without inhaling tentacle liquid, as that would make me even more infected than I already was. I knew that, but my consciousness didn't. I heard Gulvic laugh at my struggle for air. The last thing I remember before passing out was these words.

"By the way, it's Browlvic. Thanks for the complete control.."
