"Jane, dear? Why are you home so early-?" Wendy asked her daughter the moment she shut the door. She completely ignored her, eyes focused on the stairs.

"Jane, what's wrong?" Wendy followed her up the stairs but was stopped by the door slamming in her face. "Jane!" She came in.

The moment her hand touched her shoulder, Jane pulled away. "Leave me alone!"

Wendy was taken aback. Jane had never said those words to her. Even when she was feeling angry. "Sweetheart," she began gently. "I'm only trying to help-"

"No!" She interrupted. "Get out of my room!"

Wendy swallowed before stepping out. "Alright," she said quietly before closing the door.

Jane lifted her head up from her knees to check if she was still there. A part of her wanted her mother to keep pushing her for answers. But another part of her just wanted to be alone.

Her lower lip quivered when another river of tears slipped past her eyes. I should've never even tried to kiss Elliot, she thought bitterly. I shouldn't have even talked to him. If this wasn't regret, she didn't know what was.

Jane was beyond thankful that she never slept with him. It scared her when she thought about all the things she had done for him and all the things she would've done if he asked.

This is all my fault. How could I have been so stupid? This is what I get for throwing myself out there for some guy I hardly even know! She slammed her fist onto her headboard and sobbed.

She thought of Mia and Isabell. She thought about how they knew but chose not to tell her. That made her wonder, what other things do they not tell me? In fact, this whole situation made her question everything she thought she once knew about her life. Was there anyone she could trust?

Jane scooted forward and lightly touched the picture on her nightstand. She looked at her younger self and her heart ached. She would never be able to get that moment back. Nowadays, life felt so cruel. She never realized just how easy she had it back then. From the presents on Christmas to the laughs on birthdays. She missed it all. Especially the times before the war.

Jane knew she could never be a child again, but sometimes she felt like one. She never wanted to do the other things that teenagers did. They were all trying too hard to grow up. She already learned that growing up fast wasn't the best way to live your life. But neither was being immature. Sometimes it was hard to find that perfect balance.

Jane laid down in her bed after grabbing a book from her backpack. It was called I Capture The Castle. She found it very intriguing because it was written by a woman who was living in California during the war with her husband. She wrote about how she missed living in London and reminisced her life a few years before she had to leave.

Jane read a couple chapters until her eyelids grew heavy. The sun was just starting to set but she wanted to go to bed early. She placed her book on her nightstand and pulled the covers over herself. She glanced out her window and saw a small bright light peaking through the curtains. She sighed in annoyance and got up.

She grabbed her curtains to close them all the way when she noticed what the light was. She looked up at the night sky and saw a star. But it wasn't just any star. It was the second star to the right. Neverland. She opened her window.

She absentmindedly smiled and admired its light. Something about it always made her heart leap and almost jump out of her chest. It was like she had this unexplainable joy inside of her, just waiting to come out. But the world kept it locked in a cage in some deep, dark place.

Jane closed the window and curtains. As much as she missed that place, she could not let herself get caught up in it. Not again. It was already painful enough when she waited for months and months and he never came back. Overtime, she learned to ignore it and move on.

She got back in bed and shut her nightlight off. She tried not to think about what would happen at school the next day. Hopefully it'll be better tomorrow. Those were her last thoughts before drifting off.

Jane woke up cold. She tried curling up in a ball, burying herself under the covers, and even wrapping her arms around herself. But nothing worked. So she opened her eyes. What is going-

Her window was wide open.

"I could've sworn I closed it," she said to herself, swinging her legs over the bed. She slowly walked towards the window and peeked outside. No one was there. When she closed the window, she had a flashback of what happened to her the last time her window was open like this. She turned around and sighed in relief. No pirates with sacks or gags. Thank goodness. I guess I didn't close it all the way last time.

She headed back for her bed when something jumped out of her closet.

Jane started to scream but her voice was cut off by a hand. Oh my God!! Who's in my room?!!!" She brought her arms up to remove the hand over her mouth when she heard a tiny jingling sound.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a yellow glowing light. It looked kind of like a firefly. Or a fairy. A fairy?

Wait.

Her eyes winded when she saw her. Tinkerbell?

"You think she knows who we are, Tink?" A voice behind her asked with a chuckle. The fairy nodded.

Jane felt herself relax. It was only Peter Pan.

...Peter Pan?!
