Chapter Ten - Education

Chapter ten

I had just finished packing when there was a knock on the door, I called out a quick come in and was zipping up my suitcase. I heard a familiar laugh and knew it was Josh.

"You always struggle with your suitcases." He told me as if I wasn't aware. I looked at him with a 'are-you-serious-right-now?' Facial expression.

He smiled at me, "Alright, alright. Sit on the suitcase, I've got you." He told me and I smiled getting on the suitcase and sitting on it. He started to zip it up and within a couple of seconds he had done it.

"Thank you!" I sighed, happy that it was finally done up.

"I want to talk to you Melanie." He told me and I stayed sat on my suitcase for the time being, when he used my whole name it usually turns out to be serious.

"Uh, okay. Yeah sure, what do you want to talk about?" I asked trying to not show that I was nervous about what he was going to say.

"This is where it gets real now, you've packed up and everything. Mum and dad are waiting downstairs to say goodbye. I want you to know you're able to change your mind right now if you want to. Don't worry about how the decision will affect me. Abbie wants you to make a certain decision. I want to know how you're feeling about this." He explained to me. He was right, everything was about to get real.

"I can't say I wouldn't be lying if I wasn't 100% sure this is what I want. I don't know what I want. I want you to have a future as a doctor cause it's what you're good at, but I don't know whether I'm ready for marriage. I don't even know if I can trust Trevor, I'm feeling more assured that you're coming but you won't be around as much. I don't know Trevor very well, I'm not particularly fond of him either. But who knows, maybe he'll surprise me. Love isn't always beautiful at the start, maybe in a years or a few years time we might be an actual couple."

"You can trust Trevor, I've only known him a couple of days and I trust him with you. No bribes or anything. I think he's worthy of your trust. Just don't be too quick to judge him okay?"

"Okay." I smiled at him and he hugged me.

"You're going to be fine Mel, I won't let anything happen to you."

"I know you won't, thank you for coming with us Josh."

"It's no problem, you ready?"

We stood in front of each other after having a hug, I looked around the room and looked back at him. I took a deep breath in and nodded slightly, "Yeah, I'm ready."

"Okay, let's go down then. I'll get your suitcase."

"Thanks."

I walked out the room and waited for him to grab my suitcase, he picked it up and carried it like it was as light as feather and I can tell you, it really wasn't. We walked down the stairs and my mum and dad were there. I smiled as tears sprang to my eyes at the sight of them. I went over and hugged them whilst Josh gave the suitcase to one of the butlers to put in the car. My mum and dad hugged me back. I could feel my mum crying already which made me start crying too.

"I'm going to miss you guys." I told them my voice breaking a little. They have done so much for Josh and I.

"We're going to miss you too sweat pea." My mum said back, her voice cracking too.

We pulled apart and I wiped my tears, "I'll call when I get the chance to I promise."

"We'll always pick up don't you worry. You enjoy yourself alright?" My dad told me and I nodded.

"Thank you guys for being awesome parents." I told them and that's when my mum lost it and started balling her eyes out. I laughed a little at it and Josh did too.

"Good job Mel, you made mum cry." He stated jokingly and I looked at him, jabbing him in the side slightly.

"No she didn't, I'm just a little emotional." My mum defended me.

Abbie walked over to us and smiled, "I'm sorry to interrupt this lovely moment but we have to go otherwise we're going to miss the jet." She informed us and I nodded in understanding. She nodded back and walked away to John.

"You don't need to worry mum, I'll be in Seattle with Mel and I doubt Trevor's parents will let anything happen to her whilst shes in their care. Trevor won't let anything hurt her either." Josh informed them and they both nodded.

"I'm not keen on Trevor but if you trust him then I'll trust him too." My mum said as my dad nodded in agreement and it shocked me. Was I the only one who didn't trust Trevor?

They gave us a last goodbye hug and after I told them we will call them when we get there we left to go to the car. We got in and it turned out that Abbie and John had taken a separate car, so we were stuck with Trevor. I sighed as I was wedged in between Trevor and Josh. If I had it my way, I'd be on the window seat. Josh and I waved goodbye to our parents as the car started moving. We then sat in silence. The car ride consisted of staying silent, I ended up going on my phone most of the time texting Lexie.

We were about to board the jet when we saw Abbie and John waving inside the jet windows. I chuckled to myself and Trevor just groaned at them, rolling his eyes.

We got on and I saw the seats weren't in a row like a usual plane would be, it was a luxurious jet with big seats to fit two and it had very modern tables in front of the chairs. The air hostess was checking we were all comfortable. Josh pulled a fast one and got on one of the seats and spread out on it. Abbie and John were sat on the other seats so that only left a seat for Trevor and I. I groaned, sitting on the chair and buckling in. Trevor had been putting his hand luggage away and looked at us. Josh indicated for him to seat with me and Trevor did so hesitantly. He buckled himself in. We were about to take off and I watched as the jet took off. It felt like I was on a rollercoaster as from where I was sat I was going backwards. Once we were in the air the sign said that we were able to take off our seatbelts. Trevor did instantly as did Josh, however Abbie, John and I stayed with our seatbelts on.

"You're going to love the estate Melanie. It's private and very secure so you'll be safe there." Abbie told me and I nodded.

"Sounds great."

Trevor got up and got his hand luggage from the shelf above us. He opened it up and took his laptop out of it which some headphones. He opened it up and I instantly saw his lock screen, him and some other girl. I figured it was probably Stephanie. He looked over at me as I was staring at the lock screen. He quickly unlocked it to stop me staring.

"I've not been on this laptop since we broke up. She doesn't mean anything to me anymore." He said and then changed his lock screen. His home screen was another photo.

I leaned over curious pointing at the people in the picture with him, "Who are they?"

"They're my friends, you'll get to meet them when we get to Seattle. Besides, they'll be in school with us too," He said and I stared at him bewildered. "We may be nineteen but it doesn't mean we shouldn't go to university. I'm already enrolled, we'll get you enrolled too."

"What makes you think I want to go university?"

"You're going university Mel, you have to."

"I don't have to do anything."

"Do you not want to go to university?"

"I've never really thought about it."

"Well have a think whilst we're on the way to Seattle, whatever decision you make in the end I'll respect it." He told me as I eyed him suspiciously. He was definitely up to something.

He opened up Netflix and plugged his headphone in, he put the right one in his left ear and gave me the other to put in mine. He looked at me as if he was trying to figure me out, but in reality I think it was me trying to figure him out. He then turned to his laptop and put Friends on. I mentally screamed.

Two hours later he decided he'd had enough of Friends and changed it to Top Gear. I mentally groaned. Half an hour of Top Gear and I fell asleep next to Trevor.

~~~~
I felt someone nudge me as I started to stir. I opened my eyes and felt that I was on someone's shoulder. I sat back up away from them and saw Trevor smirking at me.
"Well good evening sleeping beauty." He smirked at me and I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Very funny... Sorry I fell asleep on you though.." I said and he looked shocked that I would apologise.
"Sorry? Why do you need to be sorry? You only fell asleep, it's not like the world depended on you to stay awake." He asked.
"You don't seem like the type of person who would let someone fall asleep on them that's all..." I told him and he looked insulted.
"Well we're an hour away from Seattle. You slept most of the way, but obviously I'm not the type of person who would let someone fall asleep on them." He smirked at me and I jabbed his side chuckling a little.
"Thank you."
"What for?" He asked.
"For letting me sleep and for being nice to me for a change."
He let a little smile slip through and then cleared his throat, "I'll be back in a minute." He said and got up. Guess he had to go toilet or something.
Abbie and John were looking at me with little smiles. I noticed and that got Abbie talking, "You two are adorable." She stated and I could tell I was blushing.
"W-What?" I asked taken back.
"You're bonding with each other. I'm sure you'll be happy with him in no time." She smiled at me.
"Can I ask you guys something?" They both nodded at me, "Would it be so bad that I didn't go to University?" I asked.
"Of course not sweetie. It's not for everyone, if you don't want to go then you don't have to. Don't let him bully you into a decision." Abbie told me and John nodded in agreement. I smiled, well that makes me feel better.
"What course is Trevor doing?"
"I'm doing Business Studies." Trevor stated, sitting down next to me again.
"Oh, okay. Can I see what courses they have at the university?" I asked him and he nodded. Thank god he had a saved copy of the courses on his laptop, I doubt there would have been Wi-Fi.
There was quite a lot of courses. I had no interest in business studies, that was for sure. I started to read the list.
Accounting? No.
Business Management? No.
Counselling? Not quite.
Economics? Nope.
Education? Yes.
I thought about it for a moment, I've always liked working with children. I've had multiple babysitting jobs in the past, I volunteered at a youth club. I've always wanted to have kids of my own. Why not become a teacher?
I smiled at the thought, I turned to Trevor, "I want to be a teacher. Education is the course for me."
He stared at me and a smile formed on his face. Abbie whispered something to John and soon enough he was on the phone. When we landed Abbie and John got my attention and everyone elses for that matter.
"You're enrolled in the university on the course of Education." John told me and I gasped.
"Oh my god! Thank you so much!" I exclaimed excited.
"Wait, did I miss something?" Josh asked and Trevor laughed at him.
"Melanie decided on the plane, she wanted to be a teacher." Abbie explained and Josh looked at me. I nodded and he then hugged me.
"That's great news!" He exclaimed with a big smile.
