Chapter Nine - Can I trust him?

Chapter nine

I woke up back in my bed in Trevor's house. The moments before I passed out in the park had replayed in my head. I sat up and before I knew it I had hands on my shoulders.

"Take it easy Mel." I heard a familiar voice say. My vision had gone blurry from moving too quickly and I looked ahead. My vision finally resurfaced. It was Chase.

"Chase? You shouldn't be here if Trevor has tried to kill you before!" I told him panicking. Chase had stepped into the lions den, who knew what Trevor might be planning now or what he would do if he found out Chase was here.

"I'll be fine, I can handle myself Mel. Listen there's something you should know." He told me and I wasn't sure I could handle anymore news.

"I don't know if I want to hear this." I told him and he looked at me serious.

"You need to know this, you're not safe with Trevor. No matter what people tell you, he is dangerous. I don't want you going to Seattle. Not alone at least-"

"I'll have Josh there with me." I told him.

"Alright, but please do not let your guard down with him. He's dangerous and I don't like that he will have you 15 hours away from home. Check in with me daily please, and if you think you're in danger then leave with Josh. Don't think twice about it. I know what Trevor is capable of." He told me and I took it all in.

"I'll check in with you every day, of course I will you're my best friend. I already knew he is dangerous, he's a gang leader. I don't let my guard down with him anyway, he's too much of a jerk." I told him and he smiled at me. He pulled me into a hug and I accepted it by hugging him back.

"Just promise you'll be careful in Seattle. I don't like to think you're in danger."

His grip on me tightened and I felt a tear roll down my cheek, "I promise Chase." I told him. I was going to miss him, so much.

"Are you crying? My shoulder is wet all of a sudden." Chase asked me, rubbing my back to try and soothe me.

"I'm just going to miss you and everyone I'll be leaving like crazy. The only family member I'll have is Josh and although he is overprotective of me, he quite likes Trevor. If anything does happen it will be hard to convince him to leave with me."

"You're his little sister, he'll believe you over some guy you may or may not marry."

I nodded, he was right. Josh would believe me over anyone no matter what. Josh always believed family was to be put first before anyone or anything. We both did, that's how our parents had raised us.

Soon enough there was a knock on the door, we both looked at each other and I gulped.

"Who is it?" I asked, I waited a couple of moments for a reply and I was getting convinced whoever knocked walked away. Chase had been sitting on the bed at the bottom staring at the door.

"It's me... It's Trevor, Melanie." I looked over to Chase who was death glaring the door. I chuckled a little.

"What do you want?" I asked him and it was a moments silence again.

"I wanted to see how you were doing, can I come in?" He asked and I was shocked he asked. Any other time he would have barged in regardless.

I looked over to Chase, he nodded to say it was alright. Sighing I called out, "Yeah come in." The door opened slowly, Trevor smiled at me a little and then his eyes went to Chase. Trevor rushed over to me, picked me up and stood me on the floor behind him.

"What are you doing here?" Trevor asked with such despise. I knew Trevor tried to kill Chase so why is he acting like the victim?

"I'm here for my best friend. She passed out at the park after hearing some news, I came with her and Dave to make sure she was alright." Chase explained to him, he wasn't moving or anything. He just sat staring at Trevor with hateful eyes. I guess Chase hated Trevor just as much as Trevor hated Chase. Though, Chase had an actual reason to hate Trevor. I wasn't sure what Trevor's excuse was.

"Well as you can see shes fine, now get out of my house before I do-" Trevor stopped himself whilst looking at me in the corner of his eye. It was brief but I caught it.

"Do what?" I asked him and Trevor looked at me with an expression I couldn't place. Chase's expression changed at this too, he was a little surprised.

"Don't worry about it Mel." Trevor said.

"Well I guess I'll leave, I can tell I'm unwanted here." Chase stood up and grabbed his shoulder bag and put it on. He was about to finish walking past us when I grabbed his arm preventing him going any further.

"We haven't even had a good chat like we used to, don't go now. God knows when I'll see you again Chase, I don't want to leave on this note." I told him and he smiled a little at me. It was only then that I realised that Trevor had his arm around my waist.

"No, he can go-"

"Trevor stop it. He is my best friend, he isn't going anywhere until he wants to or I say so," I told him and he looked at me as if I had done a taboo. I looked to Chase and pulled myself out of Trevor's grasp, we walked out and downstairs to the living room. I sighed and sat on the sofa, Chase looked at me hesitantly, "Come sit, we can watch some movies in here. I'll go get the drinks and popcorn." I told Chase and he smiled at me sitting down as I stood to get the popcorn. All I had to do was put it in the microwave and salt it, salted popcorn was by far the best. Once it had popped I poured it into a bowl and walked back into Chase. Trevor had entered the living room at the same time I did. We made eye contact and I gave him a warning look to not say or do anything about Chase. He narrowed his eyes at Chase then me, I walked towards Chase and Trevor walked into the kitchen muttering something. I rolled my eyes and sighed.

I walked around the sofa and Chase looked at me, "Any movie suggestions?" I asked and he shrugged.

"I'm guessing you want to watch Disney movies, so how about the lion king?" He asked and I shook my head no. He instantly put his hand to my forehead to check my temperature. "Are you feeling alright?" He asked me and I nodded.

"I watched it the other day." I shrugged and he looked at me astonished.

"That means nothing with you, you watched it for a week once!" He scoffed at me and I smiled at it. It was true.

"Well what do you want to watch?" I asked him and he thought for a moment.

"How about Sully or Baby Driver?" He asked and I thought about it.

"Sully." I agreed and he nodded. I put it on and we both was sat on the couch, I had grabbed a blanket as it was a little chilly and Chase pulled me closer to him. I was used to this, we always did this when we had a movie night or day.

It had gotten late and we both started to get tired. We had decided to watch Baby Driver after we had watched Sully and it had just ended. We both yawned and looked at each then laughed. I sat up away from Chase and looked at the time. It was 2.45 AM, did we really just stay up this late watching films?

"It's probably time I get going." Chase said and started to get up. Usually if we stayed up this late he would crash at mine in the guest room. I wasn't entirely sure whether Trevor's parents had a guest room that was free. The guest room had been turned into my room.

He was starting to gather up his things when I started to talk, "You could stay the night if you want to, we have a guest room. I'm sure Abbie and John won't mind you staying the night."

He looked at me and smiled, "But what about Trevor?"

I smiled back at him and chuckled a little, "I can deal with Trevor, just lock your door and maybe barricade it too."

Chase laughed at my suggestion before nodding hesitantly, "Thanks." He smiled at me and I nodded.

"Don't worry about it, I'm not letting you walk home this late. Besides the Chauffeurs are probably all sleeping." I explained turning the TV off and folding the blanket up. We headed up the stairs and I showed him the guest room. I didn't leave outside his room until I heard him lock it. Once I was happy he had locked the door I continued to my bedroom. It had turned out there was a spare guest room. This house had more rooms than I thought. I entered my bedroom and closed the door. I quickly got into some Pjs and climbed into the bed. I started to close my eyes when I heard a knock at my door. I sighed and got up and went to the door. I opened it and saw Trevor.

I sighed once again, "What do you want?" I asked him and he waited a moment to respond.

"I wanted to check on you, are you alright?" He asked me and I looked at him cautiously.

"Yes... I'm fine. Have you waited all this time for me to be alone to ask that?" I asked and he nodded. I groaned and walked away from the door allowing him to come in if he wished to.

He entered the room and closed the door, leaned on it and watched me get back on my bed. I crossed my legs and looked at him, "What's the deal with you Trevor?" I asked him and he stared at me blankly. "You acted as if you were the victim when you saw me with Chase, yet you're the one who tried to kill him. Why?"

"Why did I try to kill him or why did I act like the victim?"

"Both."

"He is in a rival gang, my biggest one yet. He's close to the leader, I tried to get to him. It backfired, he's still alive problem solved. I acted that way because he is dangerous, you shouldn't be around him whilst your with me or at least whilst this engagement is going on. Does he know?" He explained to me coming over to the bed.

"He knows everything, he's my best friend."

"Melanie, I really don't want to be that dick of a guy who tries to tell you who you can't be friends with but-"

"Then don't be that guy." I cut him off, I wasn't stupid I knew where he was going.

"But he is dangerous whilst you're connected to me. If you value your safety, you'll leave him behind. He will try to lure you out, or he'll tell his gang leader about you and then things will get serious. Your life will be in danger and they will stop at nothing to try to kidnap you to try and get to me." He told me, by now he was cupping my face so delicately as if I'd break at the slightest touch.

"Trevor, he's my best friend. He would never put me in danger or try to hurt me." I gripped onto his wrists.

"Or so you think, or he was your best friend. The moment he learnt of your status how did he react? Did he lash out? Try to get more information on me? Try to get you outside alone? How did he react to the Chauffeurs? Think about it Melanie. Think for a minute."

I then thought about what he was saying, he promised to stop gang fighting but Trevor was now telling me he hadn't stopped at all. When I had told him Trevor's name he hadn't taken it well, then he told me he was the guy who had tried to kill him. He never liked Dave around him, he came back with us after I passed out. There was a little tiny bit of suspicion creeping up but there wasn't enough to convince me that Chase - my best friend - was dangerous.

"No, he's not dangerous Trevor. He's my best friend. The only dangerous person in this house is you. You're turning the table against Chase when you're the one who tried to kill my best friend. Trevor, you tried to kill my best friend." I told him removing his hands from my face. I didn't want to be touched by him whilst I was having a moment of realisation.

I started doubting whether it was a good idea to go to Seattle or not. Could I honestly trust Trevor? My answer was no, I couldn't.
