Prologue

She clutched the light blue teddy bear tightly against her chest—the one her father had bought for her just minutes ago. Its soft fur offered a fleeting sense of comfort as she sat in the backseat, her wide eyes fixed on her father's clenched jaw. He was gripping the steering wheel tightly, driving at an unnervingly high speed.

"What's so wrong with me visiting my friend's house?" her mother's voice pierced the air, sharp and trembling with frustration. From the passenger seat, she turned to her husband, her tone laced with defiance.

Her father's overprotectiveness had always been a point of contention, and tonight was no different. Her mother wanted to visit an old friend in Busan, but he had flatly refused. The argument spiraled, their voices rising with every exchanged word.

The young girl hated this—hated the tension that filled the small confines of the car. She hugged her teddy bear tighter, wishing she could disappear into its softness. She wanted to beg them to stop, to remind them she was there, listening, but fear held her tongue.

Suddenly, her mother's shrill scream cut through the chaos.

"WATCH OUT!"

The car swerved violently. Her body lurched forward, the seatbelt biting into her chest as a deafening crash shattered the air.

In the blink of an eye, the world spun into chaos. The family car collided with a truck, the impact jolting her small frame like a rag doll.

When she opened her eyes, everything was a blur. Pain throbbed in her head, her vision swimming with colors and shapes that refused to settle.

And then she saw them.

Her parents' faces—lifeless, smeared with blood—staring into nothingness.

A wave of terror and grief crashed over her, stealing the air from her lungs. Tears blurred her vision further, and she reached out with trembling hands, but they didn't respond.

The distant sound of sirens grew louder, mingling with the frantic murmurs of strangers gathering around the wreckage. The hooting of an ambulance and the chaos of the crowd seemed to echo in her ears.

With each shallow breath, she felt her strength slipping away. Her vision dimmed, and she clung to the last remnants of consciousness, her teddy bear still cradled in her arms.
