CHAPTER THREE
"Girl Meets Rules"
(primrose's outfit for this chapter)
"Alright, where's your father?" Lucas asked Riley.
Everyone was in History class, but the teacher wasn't present. "Are we getting a sub? I don't want a sub, you've never know where they've been." Farkle said in a panicky tone.
"He's only one minute late." Primrose speaks up and he glances at her with a worried look. "Calm down. I'm sure he'll be here."
Apparently that didn't calm Farkle down because he continues to panic. "What if he never shows up? What if I never learn anything else?" His eyes then start to roll to the back of his head. "I'm going down, sir! Oh, he's not even here." Was the last thing he said before he fell onto the floor.
Riley got out of her seat, going to check on Farkle at the same time Maya got out of her seat, moving to the front of the class. "We lost Farkle! A little help, Maya? Primrose?" Riley looked at Maya and then back at Primrose with a hopeful expression on her face.
Primrose shakes her head. "You know I would," She gestures to Farkle and shrugs. "But if he's already out, then there's no point." She knew that Farkle was prone to dramatics, but she couldn't help but feel a pang of concern as she watched him lying on the floor.
"I like the way you're thinking, Prim!" Maya points at her with a grin on her face. "Matthews is out, Farkle is down, it's Maya Time!"
Primrose sighs. "That's not what I meant, Maya." She knew that Maya was always eager to take charge of any situation, but she also knew that this wasn't the time for Maya Time. She glanced around the room, her concern growing as she realized that the teacher was still nowhere to be seen. With Farkle on the floor and no sign of their instructor, the situation was starting to feel increasingly chaotic.
Riley then got Farkle up back in his seat. "Farkle's fixed, no Maya Time." She sighs when Farkle falls out of the chair again. She looks at Maya. "You may proceed."
"During Maya Time, we open the confiscation drawer and take back all the stuff from the land of unfairly taken toys." Maya explained with a grin.
Riley scoffs. "Maya, I don't really think anybody really wants-"
Everybody besides her, Primrose, Lucas, and, of course, Farkle, cheered at hearing what Maya said. "Alright, who does this belong to?" Maya raised a frisbee she got out of the drawer, looking at the class to see a boy in the back raise his hand.
She then throws the frisbee to him just as Farkle stands back up. "What'd I miss?" Primrose grimaced when he got hit with the frisbee, causing him to fall back down again. She winced as Farkle was hit with the frisbee, causing him to tumble back down to the floor once more.
"Maya! He is going to walk in and catch you and you're going to get in trouble, and I am here to help you out of trouble, and I will have failed. Do you want me to fail?" Riley asked the blonde, frowning at her.
"Do you want me to show you how to have fun?" Maya questioned, raising her eyebrows at Riley.
"Behaving is fun." Riley answered.
"Come here." Maya demanded, gesturing Riley to stand by her up front.
Riley shakes her head, looking nervous. "I really don't want to." She mumbled.
"You, come here right now. Ring power!" Maya raised her hand that had a ring on it which matched the ring Riley wore.
Riley gets up reluctantly, going to stand next to her. She faces the class with a sheepish expression. "When you say, ring power, you have to, it's a rule."
"Tell me this isn't fun." Maya got a plastic gun out from the drawer and started shooting the plastic balls at their classmates, immediately regretting it when their teacher walked into the classroom. The room grew quiet and calmed down once he stepped into the room.
"When did you guys decide there are no rules in here?" Cory asks in disbelief while Maya and Riley quickly sit down. "When did my generosity in allowing you to express yourselves, make you think you can turn my class into a zoo?" Riley and Maya were the first to apologize with the rest of the class following after them, even Farkle, who just let out a pain grunt of an apology.
"Lucas, Primrose, why didn't you two apologize?" Cory questioned, noticing they were the only ones that didn't say anything.
"Because I never do anything." Lucas answered.
"And I know that only bad things will result if you disrespect a teacher." Primrose responded.
Cory smiles at her response. "Yes, that's true." He turns to Lucas. "And you didn't apologize because you respect the rules." He looks at the two of them. "Both of you do. Because you know without them, civilization becomes chaos. The rest of you are going to spend the afternoon thinking about that, with the exception of Lucas the Good and, of course, Primrose the Respectful."
Primrose groans at the nickname he given her, slouching back in her seat while Lucas also groans. "Oh boy, is that gonna stick?" Lucas asked.
"I'm already making t-shirts." Maya smirked.
Primrose crosses her arms and mumbles, "Of course you are." She honestly didn't care as much about her new title as Lucas cared about his, but she couldn't deny that it was embarrassing to have their teacher give them nicknames based on their behavior in class.
"You put me in a real bad position, sir. I gotta do something." Lucas confronted Cory, now standing in front of him as he looked worried.
"You can fight this, Lucas." Cory assured him.
Lucas immediately shakes his head after taking a glance at the class. "No, I can't, sir. Everyone's looking."
"Okay. Do what you gotta do." Cory shrugged his shoulders. Lucas then got his phone out of his pocket, sending a text to someone, and that someone ends up being Cory.
Cory gets his phone out after getting the text and then looks at Lucas when he was done reading it. "Detention."
Lucas let out a breath of relief. "Thank you, sir." He said and then put his phone away as he went to sit back down.
"Wait," Primrose speaks up, her lips forming to a pout. "I don't wanna be left out."
Cory chuckles lightly. "What are you gonna do about it?"
Primrose stands up, not really knowing what to do so she yelled as she flipped over her desk which accidentally bumps into Farkle when it falls to the floor. Primrose winces as he groans. "Sorry, Farkle."
"You seriously think yelling and flipping over a desk is gonna get you detention?" Cory raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah?" Primrose said but it sounded more like a question, and she looked at him with a hopeful glint in her eye. She never thought about getting detention before, but now that all her friends were getting detention, she didn't want to be left out.
He sighs and nods. "Yeah, alright. Detention. In fact, detention all of you!"
****
Before Primrose knew it, it was time for detention. She has never been in detention before so she had no idea how this was going to go. She walked back into the History classroom along with the rest of the class as Cory spoke.
"I've always allowed you to bend the rules, but the best students know just how far they can push before those rules are broken. Today, you are not the best of students."
"But you know we're good people most of the time, don't you, daddy?" Riley asks him. She smiles nervously when her father looked at her with a stern expression. "Daddy? You're my daddy."
Cory said nothing and just raises his eyebrows at her. He turns to Maya when she asked a question. "Why do we need rules at all?"
"Things would be complete chaos." Primrose replied.
Cory nods at her. "Primrose is right." He looks back at Maya. "And you think you can live in a world without rules?"
"I think I could do find in any world." Maya nodded.
"The rest of you believe that?" Cory asks the class. Everyone, including Lucas and Primrose, nodded. "Okay." Cory nods. "Well, guess what, guys. School's out. You got the whole place to yourselves. No rules. One hour to behave however you want. Let's see what becomes of you."
Riley smiles. "Well, I think we'll be perfectly behaved ladies and gentlemen."
"And I think within one minute you'll be eating each other." Cory grabbed his keys on his desk, moving towards the door.
"Where are you going?" Riley asked, noticing he was leaving.
"I'm locking you in." Cory replies, turning to face the class. "The best punishment I can give is to force you to spend some time with yourselves. I'll see you in an hour. Whoever's left." And with that he leaves the classroom, locking the door.
"I'm surprised he locked us in." Primrose admitted and Riley nodded in agreement.
Primrose watches with concern when Farkle starts to breathe heavily. "That's fine. I don't have a problem with that. I'm not claustrophobic or anything." He starts to panic, looking around with wide eyes. "We're trapped. I can't breathe. There's more carbon dioxide than oxygen! The ratio is all wrong!"
"Okay." Maya rolls her eyes at him. "Farkle gosta go."
Farkle looks at her with a panicked expression. "I gosta?!" He exclaimed. Primrose reached forward, rubbing his back to try and calm him down. Farkle did calm down thanks to her and he smiled thankfully at her. Primrose nodded, smiling back at him as she stopped rubbing his back and lowered her arm.
"Stop." Riley then slams her hands on her desk, standing up in front of the classroom to face the class. "This is exactly what my father wants. He wants us to panic and fall apart. We have to show him that we can get through this without turning into a pack of wild animals."
Once Farkle was breathing normally she sat normal in her seat, smiling back at Farkle when he sent her a thankful smile. "I'm hungry." Lucas said, looking at Farkle.
A panicked expression is quick to form on Farkle's face when Lucas said that to him and Farkle immediately looks over at him. "What do you mean by that?"
"Nothing," Lucas shakes his head, getting up to stand behind Farkle's chair. "I'm just really hungry."
"Because we're best friends." Farkle looked back at him nervously.
"Yeah, you know what else? I don't think I've ever been this hungry before." Lucas voiced.
"I feel ya, Ranger Rick." Maya stands up, now standing beside Lucas. "I'm kinda hungry, too."
Lucas nods. "And it's not like a regular kind of hungry, right?"
"No. No. This one's deep." Maya agrees. "It must be attended to."
Riley walks over to them. "Oh, guys, can we just show a little discipline? I mean, how much more time in here could we possibly have?" Everyone looked over at the clock on the wall, seeing that it just struck 3:01.
Riley turns back to Farkle and nods. "You know, I could eat, too."
"Okay, stop being so dramatic, you guys." Primrose rolled her eyes at her best friends.
With an alarmed expression on his face, Farkle quickly gets out of his seat. "What? What are you all looking at? Uh, guys, what are you seeing right now?"
"Stop talking, chicken." Lucas replied, moving to stand in the aisle of the rows.
Riley then snaps out of it and moves to the front of the classroom, facing the class. "Alright, come on! Let's prove my father wrong. Let's form our own perfect society. Rileytown is a land of goodness and rainbows where everybody folds their hands nicely like so." She then folds her hands out in front of her to show the class. "Who wants to live in Rileytown?"
"Don't get me wrong, Riles, it sounds like a great place," Primrose speaks up and Riley smiles at her. The smile turns into a frown as Primrose continues to speak. "But I'm gonna have to politely decline."
"Yeah, I agree with Rosie. Nobody wants Rileytown. It's too lollipop." Maya chimed in.
"You're lollipop!" Riley fired back at her.
Primrose rolls her eyes and sarcastically comments, "Oh yeah. Great comeback."
Maya chuckles, shaking her head. "Sister, I'm a lot of things, but I ain't lollipop."
"Rileytown has order, structure, and our hands folded like so!" Riley explained, folding her hands like she did a moment earlier.
She puts a hand on her hip, looking at Maya. "What do you got?"
Maya smirks. "I got Mayaville! No rules, no laws, no hand folding, and nobody says no!"
"You just said no four times." Primrose informed her as Maya sat on top of her desk.
Maya laughs. "Well, that's beside the point! Who's with me? Mayaville, baby!"
Farkle looks at Maya as if he was going to ask her a question, but Maya points at him. "No."
"You got chaos is what you got! I got order, you got chaos!" Riley exclaimed.
Maya points at her. "You got lollipop," She points at herself and smiles. "I got whoo!"
"Okay, detention may be bringing out the worst in us, but at least we're making the time pass." Riley smiled and everyone looked at the clock with hopeful eyes, sighing when only another minute had passed. Primrose even groaned, crossing her arms on her desk and laying her head on her arms, wishing the time would go by faster.
"Eat Riley." Maya ordered.
"Okay, but no biting." Riley covered her eyes, putting her hand out forward.
****
The classroom was then divided into two groups on opposite sides of the room. Rileytown and Mayaville. Everyone had picked what group they wanted to be in expect Lucas, Farkle, and Primrose.
"You know the reason I've never been able to choose between you?" Farkle asked a rhetorical question, standing next to the desk Riley sat in.
"It's because if it would be you all the time, life would be all like la la la la, la la la la." He stopped when Riley then joined him with a smile on her face and Farkle pointed at her, proving his point.
He then moved over to stand next to Maya. "And if life would be with you all the time, it would be like..." He then started growling, groaning, and even said something in another language.
As he does that, Maya grins and nods in agreement. At the end, Maya then snarls and he just shakes his head. "I can't choose between you two."
"So you're going to stick with Rosie?" Maya asked him, smiling knowingly at him.
He looks at her with a shocked expression. He forgot that Maya knew about his crush on Primrose. Primrose raised her eyebrows, wanting to know what Maya knew that she obviously didn't know.
"I-I didn't say that." Farkle stuttered, looking at the ground as his face is tinted a light pink.
"But who are you going to be with right now, Farkle?" Riley questioned, looking at Farkle.
Before Farkle could answer, Maya spoke. "Before you answer that, you may want to consider a little thing I like to call this." She walks to the back door of the classroom and Primrose's eyes widened when it opened. She didn't know that the other door was left unlocked.
"He forgot to lock the door." Lucas said in disbelief.
Riley gets out of her seat, walking to the middle of the room where Lucas, Farkle, and Primrose still stood. "Maya, you can't leave. We're in detention."
"Hey, school's out. He said we got the place to ourselves. He said to make our own rules. Rule number one; see ya around suckers." Maya then left the classroom after she said that and the rest of the students on her side of the room followed her.
Riley turns to Farkle, asking who his choice was and he chose Maya. Primrose watched as he walked out the back door, glancing back at her before he left. Riley turned to Lucas, and his was response was that he never did anything as he walks out the back door.
Riley looks over at Primrose with a hopeful expression. "Rosie"
"I may not like yours or Maya's morals, but I'm not going anywere, Riles..." Primrose shakes her head. "Well, scratch that. Actually, I am going some place."
Riley smiles at her, tilting her head to the side. "Okay, then where is that place?"
"I like to call it Primrosecity." Primrose replies and the two share a smile. "I got a book I've been dying to finish so I'm just gonna try to finish it."
Riley nods and turned back to Rileytown as Primrose went over to the other side of the room, finding a desk that was sitting normal, took her book out, and started reading. She even got her earphones out, plugging them into her ears, and turning on Pandora on her phone to block out the chaos.
****
Soon it hit 4:00pm and by then the classroom was set back to normal and even Farkle and Lucas came back. The only ones that came back a bit late were the ones in Mayaville.
Primrose was happy that she finally finished the book she has been wanting to finish for a few days. She has just been so busy with moving she never had the chance to finish it. She turned off her music, taking her earphones out, and puts them and her phone back into her backpack along with her book. When Maya and her group had sat in their seats, Primrose noticed that they had paint smudged on their faces.
"You have fun?" Riley asked, looking at Maya.
Maya nods. "I did. It was quite enjoyable. And you?"
"Someone had the idea to put me in a bag." Riley said.
Primrose pouts. "Awe man, you're telling me I missed that part?" She smirks, teasingly glancing at Riley. "Sounds like you had an interesting time."
Farkle turns back to her with furrowed brows. "Where were you at?" He asked, concerned.
"In a place called Primrosecity." Primrose replied, smiling a bit. She enjoyed the peaceful time she had to herself, but she was also glad to see her friends back, safe and sound. "Just catching up on some reading."
Farkle nods, looking relieved. "Good. I'm glad you're okay."
"Did you hear about that? 'Cause I did, and I'm not the slightest bit happy about that." Riley said to Maya.
"Really?" Maya asks, pretending not to know about it. "Well, you know there are some bad kids out there."
Everyone looks over when the door opens, revealing Cory. "Okay, guys. Detention over."
Riley gets his attention and said, "Remember how you told us that people change people?"
Cory nods. "Secret of life."
"Well, that's new information." Primrose mumbled.
"Yeah, we had to wash a car, Riley and Lucas used me to dry the car off, Maya sprayed water at us. It was-It was weird." Farkle explained to her.
Primrose nods. "Yeah, it sounds like it was." She smiles and chuckles, imagining the chaotic scene. "Well, at least you all made it through detention in one piece."
"Well, when you're not with those people, how do you keep from changing back?" Maya asked Cory.
Cory looks at her. "You went a little wild, did you?"
"Whatever I got in me is strong, Matthews." Maya replied.
"Yeah, me too." Riley agrees. "But the other way."
"Harley!" Cory called out and the janitor Harley walked in.
"Right here." Harley's voice is heard when he walked in.
Harley stands besides Cory with his arms crossed. "You watched them?" Cory asked him.
Harley nods. "Like a hawk."
Primrose's eyes widen, surprised he had been watching them the whole time. Riley and Maya share a confused look before they look at Harley with wide eyes. "Wait!" Riley exclaimed.
"You're with him?" Maya questioned Harley.
"Yeah. He's my good kid." Harley confessed with a small smile.
Cory leans over to him, questioning, "What do you got?"
"Everyone went nuts, except zippy. Oh, and flower girl over there." Harley said, pointing at Primrose. He looks at Riley. "Why didn't you go nuts, zippy?"
"I was without Maya. Without Maya, I don't think I'd ever unfold hands." Riley answered.
"What about this one?" Cory pointed at Maya.
"This one was the ring leader." Harley laughs. "Maya was the first one out the door."
"I was without Riley." Maya said. "Without Riley, I may never come back."
"Okay." Cory nods. He points at Primrose. "And her?"
"She stayed in this classroom the whole time with her nose stuck in a book." Harley replies. "Why didn't you choose a side, flower girl?"
Primrose rolls her eyes at the nickname, but answered with, "Because they're my best friends. And even though I don't agree with their morals sometimes, I could never pick between them. They both mean too much to me."
Riley and Maya smile at her when they hear that and Primrose smiles back at them. "And I wanted to finish a book I've been reading." She gestures to the book she held with a grin on her lips. "I can gladly say that I did finish it."
Cory chuckles. "Okay. Well, detention is over, guys. Everyone out. Except Maya."
Everyone walks outside, calling or texting their parents/guardian to pick them up.
"So, are you going to tell me why Maya was looking at you like she knew something I didn't and why you got all flustered when she asked that?" Primrose asked Farkle as they wait for their parents to arrive.
Farkle bites his lower lip, immediately shaking his head. He wasn't ready to tell her. At least, not yet. "No. Not...Not today. But I will one day."
Primrose nods even though she wanted to know now she didn't pressure him into telling her. She sends him small smile. "Okay."
A/N we got some cute primrose & farkle interaction in this chapter love that
