CHAPTER TEN
"Girl Meets Texas-Part 1"
(primrose's outfit for this part of the chapter)
Primrose currently sat on top of her desk next to Farkle while they conversed with Lucas and Zay in the History classroom waiting for class to start. They look over when Riley and Maya walk in.
"We have changed the life of somebody in this room." Riley announced.
"Oh, please not me." Zay pleaded.
"I'm happy with the way my life is. I got tall, and my teeth came in nicely." Farkle smiled.
"Yeah," Maya shakes her head. "We're not talking about you two."
Primrose tilts her head to the side. "What about me?"
"Not you either." Riley responded.
Lucas frowns, getting off of the desk he was sitting on when he realized they were talking about him. "Oh, no. What'd you do?"
"Oh, Lucas, in your whole history, we know what has always been your biggest regret." Riley started, walking over to the group along with Maya who said 'baaah' quietly.
Lucas looks at the blonde with furrowed eyebrows. "What is that? What are you doing?"
In response, Maya then said 'baaah' louder, looking directly at Lucas. She smiled. "You used to be a campion sheep rider at the Mutton Bustin' Rodeo, until you fell off Judy the sheep."
"And then you gave up, but you never got over it." Riley added.
"Oh, I remember hearing about that." Primrose nodded.
"How did you hear about that?" Lucas looked at her, furrowing his eyebrows.
Primrose shrugs. "I lived in Austin, Texas for awhile. Also Zay told me."
"That's my deepest darkest secret." Lucas said, turning back to Riley and Maya. "No one knows I fell off Judy the sheep except..." He looked over at Zay with a glare.
"They made me, Lucas. They made me." Zay defended himself, pointing to Riley and Maya.
"Okay, what about Primrose? Why'd you tell her?" Lucas asked him.
"That one was fully my fault. It just came out and I couldn't stop talking about it." Zay admitted.
"If it makes you feel any better I haven't told anyone about what happened." Primrose told Lucas.
Lucas sighs, sending her a small smile. "Thanks, I guess." He crosses his arms, looking back at Zay with raised eyebrows after glancing at Riley and Maya. "How did they make you?"
Zay sighs. "I said, 'Y'all wanna hear a great Lucas story?' They said, 'yes'."
"Okay, it doesn't matter." Lucas shakes his head. "I'm over it."
Primrose raises her eyebrows at him, not believing that at all. "I don't think about that day at all." Lucas continues. He then stares off into space for a few seconds, sniffling as he puts a hand over his face. "I fell off that sheep so fast. No one likes me."
"Lucas, you can fix this." Riley reassures him. "Get back on that sheep and be a sheep campion."
Maya smiles, gesturing to herself and Riley. "We have made that possible."
Lucas looks at them in disbelief. "How? How'd you made that possible?"
"Show it to him." Riley tells Maya. Maya takes a paper out of her back pocket, showing it to Lucas. "Ride, Lucas! Ride, boy!" Riley exclaimed.
"We have entered you in-" Maya started.
"The annual Mutton Busting Tournament." Riley grinned.
"In Austin, Texas." Maya added.
Riley nods. "In front of everyone you know."
"Yay!" Both girls exclaimed excitedly.
Primrose furrows her eyebrows, not knowing how the girls entered Lucas in a Mutton Busting Tournament since Lucas is too old for that now. Lucas turns to Riley and Maya with furrowed eyebrows. "You can't enter me in Mutton Busters. You can't be over eight years old or over fifty-five pounds."
"You are wrong, young Lucas." Maya smiles. "We entered you last week and your application have been accepted."
Primrose's eyes grew wide and worry grew within her, realizing what competition the girls entered Lucas in. Riley grabs the paper from Maya and read it out loud. "'Congratulations, Lucas Friar. You are an official entry in this year's Austin's Round Up Rodeo. You will be riding Tombstone the sheep.'"
At hearing that, Primrose's heart beat increases and she sends a sympathetic look to Lucas, leaning over to pat his shoulder. "Well, goodbye, Lucas."
"What? Tombstone?" Zay questions, his eyes wide as he stands up, looking at Riley and Maya. He looks at Lucas. "Yeah, I agree with Primrose. That's the end of you."
Lucas sits back on the desk, looking terrified and Primrose didn't blame him. Tombstone is not a bull you would want to ride. "Why is it the end of him?" Maya asked.
"What's the difference between riding Judy the sheep and Tombstone the sheep?" Riley questioned Lucas, Primrose, and Zay.
"A very big difference." Primrose answered.
"Read it again." Lucas looked at Riley and Maya.
Maya takes the paper from Riley, reading it this time. "Blah blah blah. Over the age and weight limit for Mutton Busters. Blah. We have placed you in the adult Rodeo where you will, blah, ride Tombstone the sheep."
"Oh, you only got one word one." Lucas informed her, getting off of the desk.
Zay nods. "Let's see if they find that one word."
"They should, it's very important in a situation like this." Primrose chimed in.
Maya looks at the paper and keeps saying blah until she finds that one word. "Oh, bull!"
Zay snaps his fingers, pointing at her. "Ah, she found it."
Lucas stares at the two girls in disbelief. "You signed me up to ride Tombstone the bull!"
Riley nervously smiles. "Are you excited?"
"No one in their right mind would be excited about that." Primrose shook her head.
"What's the difference between riding a sheep and riding a bull?" Maya asked Lucas.
"Death. Death is the difference." Lucas replied.
Cory walks into the room a few seconds later. "Alright, may we begin class?"
Everyone took their seats as he pointed to the board that read 'The Railroad'. "The railroad."
"I don't get it." Farkle said.
Cory looks at him. "What do you mean you don't get it, Farkle?"
"How's the railroad tie into what's going on in our lives, Hambone?" Farkle questioned and Primrose chuckled at the nickname Farkle called their teacher.
Maya raises her eyebrows and looked at Cory. "You just gonna let him call you 'Hambone', Matthews?"
"The railroad allowed us to travel great distances." Cory explains to the class. "The railroad allowed us to see how other people live. When you see how other people live, it changes you." He looks at Maya with a smile. "And I like 'Hambone', it's cool."
Lucas looks at Riley, looming slightly panicked. "Riley, rip it up before he finds out."
Riley looks at him with furrowed eyebrows. "Who?"
Primrose had a feeling Lucas was talking about his grandfather, Pappy Joe. She met some of Lucas' family when she lived in Austin, Texas. They're friends with her dad so her dad introduced her to them. "He's gonna find out, and when he does nothing will stop him." Lucas responded.
"Who?" Riley asked again.
"Oh, you'll know who." Zay tells her, knowing Lucas was talking about his grandfather. "You'll hear his big, booming voice. He'll say somethin'...He'll say somethin' like-"
"This country was built on railroads."
Everyone turns to the door to see Lucas' dad standing there. Before she looked over, Primrose noticed that Lucas was covering his face. His grandpa continues to speak. "I, myself, just arrived on the noon train from Austin, Texarkana and Arkadelphia. Guess why I'm here."
The room was silent and Cory looks at the class. "Anybody?"
Pappy Joe laughs. "I'm here because I could not be more proud of my grandboy, Lucas."
Maya's eyes widened in realization. She looks at Lucas. "Pappy Joe. That's your Pappy Joe!" She grins as she looks back at Pappy Joe. "Yes, more stuff!"
Pappy Joe points at Lucas, who leans back in his seat with an embarrassed look on his face. "That right there is the first Friar that ever had the courage to ride the most ferocious creature in all of creation."
"Are we talking about Judy the sheep, Pappy Joe?" Riley asked him.
Pappy Joe laughs and looks at Lucas. "Judy the sheep. Remember when you fell off Judy the sheep for about two seconds boy? Remember that? And we all said 'it was okay', 'cause you were only five years old. So we said, 'it was okay', but it wasn't okay, because you were a disgrace to the community and you dragged your family name through the mud hole to this day. You put us in the mud hole, remember?"
Primrose frowns, looking at him in disbelief that he would talk about his grandson like that, especially in front of the whole class. Lucas sighs, still looking embarrassed as he stared at his desk. "Yes. There is one moment in every man's life that shapes who he is forever. My moment was Judy the sheep."
Pappy Joe crosses his arms. "Well, you know what, Lucas Friar? You're forgiven."
A smile tugs back onto Primrose's lips when he said that. "You get on that bull for three seconds, then you will be the master of Tombstone the bull," Pappy Joe continues. "And I'll say, 'I love you'. And that's somethin' I've never said to another human."
"Can we talk about this?" Cory questioned, glancing at Lucas with concern.
"Time for talkin's over. I got a permission slip." Pappy Joe hands Cory a permission slip. "Babineaux? Got one for you too. Primrose? Got you one too." Primrose tilts her head to the side, confused at why he would get her a permission slip. "Your dad said he wanted to visit you and your mom," Pappy Joe tells her. "But hasn't been able to 'cause he's been busy so you're coming with us. I already talked with your mom and she said it was okay."
Primrose smiles widely, happy at the thought of seeing her dad again. "Thank you, Pappy Joe."
Pappy Joe nods, handing Cory Primrose's and Zay's permission slips. "Come on kids, let's go ride."
"Yee-haw!" Zay exclaims as he stood up along Lucas. He then pauses as if realizing that he said that. "That slipped out."
Primrose grabbed her backpack and followed Zay out to the hall, overhearing Lucas exclaim to Riley and Maya, "You did this!"
****
Pappy Joe dropped her off at her dad's house which happened to be near where the Friar's live. "Dad, I'm here!" She announced, opening the door with the key she got out from it's hiding spot.
"Honey! What a great surprise!" Her dad, Quinton, walked around the corner as Primrose closes the front door behind her after she put the key back in it's hiding place outside the door.
"I missed you!" Primrose smiled, letting out a small laugh when her dad picks her up and twirls her around a bit. "I missed you too, Primrose."
"Could your mom not make it here with you?" Quinton asked her, setting her back on the floor.
Primrose shakes her head. "I tried convincing her too, but she said she couldn't miss work. She did say she loves you and wanted me to give you a hug from her."
"That's understandable." Quinton smiles. "Well, I hope she knows I love her too, and how could I pass up another hug?" He pulled her into a bear hug and Primrose grinned.
"I'm gonna get change and then meet up with my friends at the Friar's house." Primrose informed him while they pulled away from the hug.
"Okay. I can drive you there." Quinton offered.
Primrose smiles. "Thanks, that'd be great."
Primrose then heads up the stairs and to her bedroom she had here. She didn't bother to pack any clothes or stuff because she knew she had what she would need here. She got changed and then went to the Friar's house almost a minute later and didn't bother to knock before she opened the door. She missed the slightly dazed look on Farkle's face when he noticed her walk in though both Lucas and Zay noticed, who shared an amused look.
(primrose's outfit for this part of the chapter)
Listen, Farkle was a man of science, but even he couldn't deny the effect Primrose had on him. It defied logic, really—the way his heart seemed to skip whenever she entered the room. Farkle wasn't usually one to lose his composure, especially around friends, but Primrose was...Different. She had a warmth and confidence that made him feel both captivated and completely off-balance. She was his best friend yet she had always made him feel something more, something deeper than friendship.
As she strolled into the room, her presence lit up the space. She was wearing a simple yet stylish outfit that fit the western vibe the town they were at, her beautiful curled hair cascading effortlessly around her shoulders. Farkle swallowed hard, trying to focus on the conversation at hand instead of the sudden effect she had on him.
"Hi, guys." She greeted, closing the door behind her and walked over to where Farkle stood behind the couch Lucas and Zay sat on.
Farkle clears his throat and attempted to act nonchalant, but the way Primrose smiled at him sent butterflies swarming in his stomach. "Hey, Prim." He manages. "I like the outfit. It really suits you." The compliment slipped out before he could stop himself, but he meant it. Her style always had a way of complementing her vibrant personality, and today was no exception.
"Thanks, Farkle!" She replies, her cheeks tinged with a hint of pink since she didn't expect that compliment from him. She smiles at him. "I figured I should embrace the whole western theme since we're in Texas. What do you think?" She spun around playfully, giving him a full view of her outfit, and he couldn't help but admire how effortlessly she carried herself.
Lucas elbowed Zay, trying to suppress a laugh. "Dude, you're totally blushing!"
Farkle shot them both a glare, but inside, he felt the heat rise in his cheeks. "I am not," He protests, feeling utterly exposed. "It's just...The lighting in here is weird." He mumbles before clearing his throat. "Really, it's a great look. You totally own it." He forced himself to focus on Prim and not the teasing from Lucas and Zay.
Primrose grins, her face brightening more. "Thanks! You're rockin' the country outfit too, especially with that cowboy hat." She added, referring to the black cowboy hat she wore as she reached over to playfully tug at the brim of Farkle's hat. "It really suits you! I mean, who knew you could pull off the cowboy look?"
Farkle felt another wave of heat rush to his face, but he managed to laugh it off and try to ignore the butterflies in his stomach. "Well, I'm just trying to keep up with you. You're the one setting the bar high with this western theme and that effortless charm." He replied, feeling a mix of admiration and embarrassment.
"Effortless? Please," She laughs, rolling her eyes playfully. "It took me forever to find the right hat and boots." She smiles fondly at him, ignoring the fluttery feeling in her stomach. She couldn't deny it, his outfit made him look really good, and his smile and the sparkle in his eyes didn't help the way she suddenly felt about him. He was her best friend, but for some reason, today he seemed a bit more than that. "But thanks, Farkle. It means a lot that you think so."
Everyone looks over when a door opens, revealing Riley and Maya dressed up in proper country attire. "Well, look at you two little darlin's." Pappy Joe smiled, taking his cowboy hat off.
Riley chuckles and leans over to Maya. "Told you this was the best way to spend all of our allowance money on the first day."
"Quit looking at us, Huckleberry." Maya noticed Lucas staring at them.
"I'm sorry, Maya." Lucas apologizes. "You look...Good."
"Oh, thanks." Maya said, a bit surprised he complimented her.
Lucas nods, looking at the two girls with a smile. "Yeah, you both look good."
Riley smiles. "You know what this place needs? A bay window. Bay window right now." Riley walks over to Primrose, grabbing her arm and pulling her over to the window along with Maya. Primrose smiled as they sat at their makeshift bay window.
Pappy Joe looks at the boys. "What's a bay winda?"
"Oh, you know, a safe place where the girls have their private talks." Lucas answered.
"Oh, well then," Pappy Joe looks at the girls with a smile, pointing at the seats they were sitting on. "I'll make sure those three stay right there, forever."
The girls smile at him just as the door opens and an elder man rushed in. Primrose grins when she realized the man is Cletus. "Pappy Joe! Pappy Joe!"
"Woah, woah." Pappy Joe calms him down. He looks at everyone. "Don't be alarmed. It's just Cletus."
The grin fell off of Primrose's face at what Cletus then said. "Tombstone the bull gone crazy! He everywhere all over the place at the same time like one of them Houdini bulls."
"Use your words, Cletus." Pappy Joe told him.
"I am using my words, garducky! Tombstone the bull bananahooey!" Cletus exclaimed.
Maya grins, pointing at Cletus. "I love him."
Pappy Joe stares at Cletus with furrowed eyebrows. "What did Tombstone the bull do?"
"He done tore up the China shop, ironically." Cletus responds. "It's true what them say."
"You mean he broke out of his pen?" Pappy Joe asked him.
"Oh, he brammoed the pen!" Cletus waves his arms around, lowering his arms as his eyes widens at seeing the girls sitting at the window. He looks at Pappy Joe with confusion. "What's them, a bay winder?"
"Ah, that's Riley and Maya, Cletus. And I'm sure you already know Primrose." Lucas pointed out.
Cletus looks back at Primrose and smiled. "Ah, yes, I remember you now! It's nice to see you again, Primrose!"
Primrose smiles back at him. It's nice to see you too, Cletus."
Cletus looks at Riley and Maya, taking his cowboy hat off. "Well, how dee do."
A smile forms on Riley's face. "Well, how-"
"Dee-" Maya smiled.
"Do." Riley finished.
Cletus puts his hat back on and looked over at Lucas. "Lukey. Thissar Lukey!" Lucas got up from the couch while Cletus went over to him and they hugged.
Lucas laughs as they pull away from the hug. He then looks serious as he says. "Wait, did they get Tombstone back in the pen, Cletus?"
Cletus nods. "Yessir. We shot him fulla sleepy juice, but I seen the look in them red eyes just afore he went nighty night. And when he wake up, huh-huuurr!"
Primrose grins and looked over at Maya, knowing what she was going to do after seeing the look of annoyance on Lucas' face. Maya goes over to stand behind Cletus. "What?"
Cletus looks at her. "Huh-huuurr!"
"Oh." Maya clears her throat, turned Cletus to look back at Lucas, and bent Cletus so he was the same height as Lucas. She goes over to Lucas, pulling his head back up to look at Cletus since he was staring at the floor and made him lean over to where Cletus was standing. "What?"
"Huh-huuurr!" Cletus exclaimed right in Lucas' face.
Primrose chuckles. "I know it's early, but my life is complete." Maya grinned and walked back over to sit on the seat she sat on earlier.
Cletus and Lucas stand back up as Cletus nods his head to Maya. "Well, thank-ee."
"No, thank-ee." Maya told him.
"All I know is, I feel sorry for the poor fool gonna ride on Tombstone." Cletus shakes his head, glancing at Pappy Joe. "Did I tell you what he done did today?"
Pappy Joe point at Lucas. "Lucas is gonna ride old Tombtsone in the Rodeo, Cletus."
Cletus frowned, taking his hat off, he looks at Lucas with tears in his eyes. "Lukey...Bye, Lukey."
Lucas frowns, watching as he leaves. "Goodbye."
****
The annual rodeo was here and Primrose wasn't so sure how she felt about it. Sure, she was excited, she loves going to Rodeos, but this one she's terrified for one of her best friends. Primrose stood next to Zay in the Rodeo Grill which was a airconditioned tent with food and refreshments. It even had a tv that showed the tournament.
"Hey, Zay, Primrose, what are you two watching?" Riley questioned, walking into the tent with Maya and Lucas and Primrose noticed he had the riding gear on that he was supposed to wear to ride the bull.
Primrose crosses her arms, shaking her head along with Zay. "Nothing you wanna see." Zay commented.
Lucas, Riley, and Maya turn to the tv where the PA announced the last clips of the last year's men with Tombstone. Maya's eyes widens after seeing the clips. She turns to Lucas. "I don't want you going anywhere near that bull."
Lucas scoffs. "Yeah, that makes two of us."
Maya points at him. "I want you to take off that stupid outfit, and I wanna get out of here."
"Maya-" Lucas started but she interrupted him.
"I saw the bull, Lucas! I don't think the bull knows this is supposed to be for fun!"
"Okay, Maya, let's not shake Lucas' confidence." Riley tells her. She turns to Lucas. "You can do this, right? You can just ride a bull for four seconds and win the master of Tombstone award?"
"It's not that easy." Primrose mumbled.
"Lucas is gonna need a tombstone." Maya pointed out. "There isn't going to be anymore Lucas."
"He's goin to do great, Maya." Riley reassures her. She looks at Zay. "Zay, tell him, 'he's gonna do great'."
Zay looks at Lucas. "You'll do great."
"Stop lying and tell him the truth." Primrose sighed.
Zay nods. "You're gonna die."
Riley walks up to Lucas. "I believe in you. I believe that you can do anything to."
Maya looks at her. "Riley, why do you want him to do this?"
Riley turns to face her. "Because this is better than riding Judy the sheep, and I don't want him to be a disgrace to his community anymore."
"Well, I don't think I'm actually a disgrace to the community." Lucas said.
Primrose nods. "Yeah, you are. Whenever I would mention you back when I lived here, people would say they hate you."
Lucas frowns when she said that. The four of them look over when a waitress walks points at Lucas. "Baah." She said and then walked off.
Lucas looks at Riley and Maya. "See? I have to do this."
"Okay, then go out there." Riley encourages him. She smiles at him. "Be the hero I know you are."
"Thank you, Riley." Lucas smiled.
Primrose looks over towards the entrance of the tent seeing Farkle and Pappy Joe walk in. "The Mutton Busters are getting ready to ride then it's you, Lucas." Farkle informed the group.
Pappy Joe looks at his grandson with a smile. "Make us proud, boy."
Then Mr. Mccullough came over and talked with Lucas, trying to shake him down by reminding him about his accident with Judy the sheep. The Friar's and the Mccullough's didn't really get along. The PA announces that it's Mutton Bustin' Time and most people in the tent look over to the tvs, to see Mccullough's son, Timmy, ride Judy the sheep. Timmy fell off Judy almost right when Judy was let out of the pen and Mr. Mccullough left them alone.
"And now, for the event you've all been waiting for," The PA continues. "Bull riding! And this year will we finally have a master of Tombstone the bull? The record on Tombstone is three point seven seconds. Will someone finally beat it?"
The first one was Eddie Callaway who was riding Buttercup. He got knocked off a few seconds right after Buttercup left the pen, landing roughly on the ground.
Maya turns to Lucas with wide eyes. "Are you out of your mind?"
"Lucas, you're serious, right?" Riley questions, looking at Lucas with worry. "You can seriously do this."
"Well," Primrose speaks up. "He's gonna have to no matter what."
"Yeah, I learned from the best, actually." Lucas told his friends.
"Who's the best?" Maya furrowed her eyebrows.
"Eddie Callaway." Lucas replied and Riley's and Maya's eyes widened.
The Pa announcer then said it was time for Lucas to ride Tombstone.
"Good luck, Lucas." Primrose patted his shoulder as he picked up his helmet.
He glances at her and forces a smile. "Thanks, Rosie." He walked over to his grandpa, but stopped and turned around to face Maya when she got his attention.
"Lucas, look at me. If you do this...I will never speak to you again." Maya told him. Primrose looked at her with wide eyes, surprised that she said that. "Maya-" She started but Maya interrupted her.
"Rosie, why are you for this? You too, Riley. He could get hurt."
"I know that, but I also know that he's gonna do the best he can. I believe in him." Primrose responded, smiling when she saw a small smile on Lucas' face.
"Yeah, and I want him to succeed." Riley gestures to Lucas. "I want him to make his grandfather proud."
Maya turns to Pappy Joe, looking at him with disbelief. "You're not proud of him if he doesn't do this?"
Pappy Joe nods. "I think you have a fine grasp of the general situation, yeah. In my opinion, it's about facing life, which runs harder than any bull. You gotta face your fears. You ride them, or they ride you."
Maya forms her lips into a tight line, looking at Lucas. "I'll never speak to you again."
"Maya, what-" Lucas' eyes widened and turned around, watching as she left the tent.
Primrose then headed over to where the bull riding was taking place along with Pappy Joe, Farkle, and Zay while Lucas stayed back to talk with Riley for a bit. Primrose climbed on the fence along with Farkle and Zay so they can get a better look.
"Hey, sweetheart." She looks over to her left, smiling when she saw her dad had made it to the rodeo. "Dad, hi!" She jumps off the fence and gave him a hug. "Glad you could make it."
"I never miss a rodeo." Quinten smiled, hugging his daughter back. Pulling away from the hug, he nodded to Pappy Joe. "Good to see you, Joe. I'm sure Lucas is gonna do great."
Pappy Joe smiled. "Good to see you too, Quinten. And yeah, I'm sure he will."
"Alright, well, you know where to find me." Quinten turned back to his daughter, pointing over to the stands. Primrose nodded, waved goodbye to him as he headed over to the stands, and climbed back onto the fence.
Primrose looks over to her left when Riley climbed on the fence beside her. "You can do this, Lucas! You can do anything!" Riley exclaimed while Lucas climbed over the fence and went over to the pen Tombstone was at.
"He can do this, right?" Riley nervously asked, leaning over to Primrose.
Primrose bites her lower lip, hesitantly nodding her head. "Yeah...Hopefully. And by the way, that's Tombstone." She pointed at the Tombstone, who's in his pen.
Riley's eyes widens upon seeing the bull. "That's the bull?"
"Lucas, tell the bull that you want to be a veterinarian! It's your only hope!" Riley yelled to Lucas as he got on Tombstone.
"He doesn't care!" Lucas yelled back to her after the bull angrily bellowed.
Primrose holds onto the fence tightly while the pen opens and Tombstone rushes out. She hated how it seemed like it was going in slow motion, that only made her more nervous. Primrose's eyes widened when Lucas was thrown off Tombstone, landing harshly on the ground.
"Lucas!" Riley shouted, climbing over the fence once Tombstone was put in his pen.
Primrose quickly climbs over the fence, rushing over to Lucas as well. "Lucas, please tell me you're okay." She pleaded, kneeling beside Riley, who turns Lucas over on his back.
He was quiet for a few seconds before he speaks in a weak voice, "I stayed on for like, 30 seconds."
Primrose lets out a relieved sigh while Riley nods with a smile on her face, glad that he was okay. "Yeah. Yeah, we knew you could." Riley said to him. By then, Farkle and Zay had climbed over the fence and went over to them, helping the girls get Lucas up.
Lucas takes his helmet off as Zay points to the screen that showed the scores. "Look, you did it."
The five of them look to the screen seeing that the screen read way over the original score for riding Tombstone. "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, that is an official time! He's done it!"
The crowd cheers for Lucas and the five of them look over when Cletus rushes over to them. He smiles, looking at Lucas. "Lukey, I'm proud of you."
Pappy Joe walks over with the trophy, handing it to Lucas, and smiles. "We all are, boy. I never seen nothing like it in my life."
Lucas smiles at the trophy and then looked at Pappy Joe. "Wanna hold onto it for safe keeping?"
Pappy Joe smiles, taking the trophy from him. "I would be honored."
"I'll keep it shinin' like the sun, garducky." Cletus said.
Pappy Joe raises the trophy and the crowd cheers again. Farkle, Riley, Primrose, and Zay cheers along with the crowd for Lucas. "Ladies and gentlemen, Lucas Friar!" The PA announcer exclaims while Lucas raises his helmet in the air with a grin on his face. "The new master of Tombstone!"

(primrose's outfit for this part of the chapter)
After heading home to change clothes before heading back to meet up with her friends, she found out that now Riley likes Lucas as a brother, but Maya may have romantic feelings for him? She was still trying to wrap her mind around it. She hadn't been gone that long and some dynamics in the group have shifted dramatically and out of the blue. This had been a curveball she didn't see coming.
The gang was back at the Friar's house and then Riley and Maya walked in. Riley asked if she could talk to Lucas, and he said he needed to talk to her as well. "If it wasn't for you, or even Rosie, I don't know if I could have got on that bull." Lucas admitted and Primrose was a bit surprised he mentioned her.
"And if it wasn't for you, I don't know if I would have survived New York." Lucas said to Riley and smiles. "You're really important to me."
"You are really important to me too, Lucas." Riley smiles. "We've always been really good at talking to each other, but we've never been too good at holding hands. And then we tried being a couple and we couldn't even talk to each other. I don't want that."
"I want to know you're always there to talk to. You're my brother, Lucas, and I'm your sister." Riley said.
Lucas furrows his eyebrows. "That's what you think we are?"
Riley nods. "That's what I think we are." She kisses him on the cheek. "I love you, Lucas, and now I know how." She looks over at Maya who sat on the armrest of the couch. "How do you feel about him, Maya?"
A/N yay this is the first part of the texas episodes! you're all probably wondering when farkle & primrose are getting together, but don't worry, that will be soon!!
