CHAPTER ONE

(primrose's outfit for this chapter)

Moving day.

The day where Primrose gets to move back to New York. She feels awful for leaving her dad back in Texas, but he constantly told her that he will be fine and that she should do this. He knew that she wasn't happy in Texas. He felt bad for making her move away from everything she has ever known to a small town in Texas where she didn't have any friends. Primrose did make one friend in Texas even though it's hard for her making friends since she's not the most social person.

Isaiah Babineaux, better known as Zay, was the only friend she made in Texas. She learned that Zay was best friends with Lucas before he moved to New York. She always wondered why Lucas had to move, but she didn't say anything about it knowing that Lucas would tell her on his own time and she doesn't want to pressure him into telling her. Ever since she left for Texas she always found a way to stay in contact with her best friends back in New York, but it still wasn't the same as it was seeing them in person.

She was so excited to be able to move back to New York. She missed her mom and sister. She also missed her best friends, maybe even missed Farkle a bit more than the others. Farkle than anyone else, their bond running deeper than mere friendship. As she packed her belongings, memories flooded her mind—late-night conversations, shared laughter, and the comforting presence of someone who truly understood her.

Despite her excitement to return to New York and reunite with her loved ones, a twinge of sadness tugged at her heartstrings. Leaving her dad behind in Texas was undoubtedly the hardest part of this move. Primrose couldn't shake the guilt gnawing at her. Even though her dad reassured her countless times, saying he would be alright and urging her to go with her mom, she couldn't help but feel like she was abandoning him. She knew he had his own life and responsibilities, but she still felt a pang of guilt.

"Home sweet home." Her mom, Josie, said, smiling over at her youngest daughter, who sat in the passenger seat. She had just pulled up to their new house and Primrose forced a smile in response to her mom's words, her heart heavy with conflicting emotions.

"Yeah," She murmurs as she looks out at the two story house nestled among the familiar tree-lined streets of their old neighborhood. It was a quaint house, with a cozy charm that whispered of memories waiting to be made. But as Primrose gazed at it, her mind wandered back to her dad in Texas, a knot of worry tightening in her chest.

"Mom," She began hesitantly, turning to face Josie, "Do you think dad will be okay? I mean, really okay?"

Josie reaches out and squeezes her daughter's hand reassuringly. "Sweetheart, your dad is stronger than you think. He'll miss you, of course, but he understands why you need to be here. And besides, we'll make sure to keep in touch with him as much as we can."

Primrose nods, finding solace in her mom's words. She knew her mom was right, but the guilt still lingered, a silent shadow that followed her every move. "Okay. Oh, and thanks for meeting dad and I half way. I know that you're busy with work."

Josie waves her hand dismissively, shaking her head. "No problem, dear. I was more than happy to come and pick my daughter up. And besides, I'm the CEO of my own company," Josie states, turning off the car. She glances at Primrose with a grin. "I can do whatever I want."

A small giggle escaped Primrose's lips as she unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out of the car. Her mom's playful confidence always had a way of making her feel better. She stretched her legs and took a deep breath, the fresh New York air filling her lungs. This was home, and despite her worries, it felt good to be back.

They walked up the front steps together, and Josie unlocked the door. The creak of the hinges and the scent of polished wood greeted them, a comforting reminder of the many times they had crossed this threshold before. Primrose's eyes scanned the living room, taking in the familiar furniture and decorations, each piece telling a story of their past.

Glancing around with furrowed eyebrows, she notices how quiet it was. "Is Opal at college?"

Closing the front door behind her, Josie stands beside Primrose. "Yeah, but she said to give me a hug once you were here, so..." She let go of the handle of the suitcase she had and wrapped her arms around Primrose, pulling her into a hug.

Primrose chuckles lightly, smiling a bit. "Of course she did." She mumbled, wrapping her arms around her mom. Even though her older sister often got on her nerves, she really did miss her especially since she had went off to college.

"Why don't you go unpack and I'll finish with the paper work to transfer you back to John Quincy Adams Middle school?" Josie suggested, pulling away from the hug.

Nodding, Primrose pulled her suitcase over to her and headed to the stairs and up to where her bedroom was. Her room was exactly as she had left it, with her posters on the walls, her books neatly arranged on the shelves, and her bedspread, a patchwork quilt made by her grandmother, inviting her in. She walked over to her desk and ran her fingers over the surface, feeling the smooth wood beneath her touch. It was as if time had stood still in this little corner of the world.

Dropping her bag on the bed, Primrose sat down and pulled out her phone. She had a message from Zay, wishing her a safe journey and asking her to keep in touch. She quickly typed a reply, promising to stay connected and visit whenever she could. Once she was in her bedroom, she started unpacking. When she was done she went over to her desk where her laptop was, deciding to facetime Farkle since she hasn't told any of her friends that she was coming back yet to surprise them, but she couldn't wait until the next day.

She sat at her desk, going on her laptop and onto Skype, requesting to facetime with Farkle. It only took a few seconds for Farkle to answer the call and she noticed that he was sitting on his bed.

"Hey, Prim. How's things going in Texas? I'm surprised you still remember me." Farkle teased, a playful grin spreading across his face.

Primrose laughs, feeling a rush of warmth at the sight of her friend's familiar features. "Of course I remember you, Farkle. How could I forget?" She shifts the laptop to get comfortable, a smile tugging at her lips. "Actually, I have a surprise for you."

Farkle raises an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? What kind of surprise?"

Primrose bit her lip, her excitement bubbling over. "Well, I'm not in Texas anymore."

Farkle's eyes widens in surprise. "Wait, what? Where are you then?"

"Guess where I'm calling from." She said, her tone hinting at the secret she was bursting to reveal.

Farkle's expression turns thoughtful as he scanned the background behind her. Suddenly, realization dawned on his face. "Are you back in New York?" He asked hopefully.

Primrose nods, her grin matching his. "Yep! Just got here today."

The brunette-haired girl lets out a small laugh at the many questions that were thrown her way. "Yes I'm back for good, and I didn't tell anyone 'cause I wanted to surprise you guys, but you know how impatient I am."

"Yeah, I know." Farkle nods, chuckling lightly at the memory he remembered. "You almost always fall asleep through math lectures."

"Well, can you blame me? Lectures are boring, add math to it, and no one should be surprised if someone doesn't fall asleep through those lectures." Primrose raised her arms dramatically while she defended herself.  She and Farkle shared a laugh, the familiarity of their banter easing the last of her lingering worries.

"I can't wait to see you in person, Prim," Farkle says, his eyes twinkling with excitement. "Everyone's going to be so excited when they see you tomorrow."

"I'm looking forward to it," Primrose replies, feeling a surge of anticipation. "I've missed you all so much."

"So, are you coming back to school tomorrow?" Farkle asked, tilting his head to the side.

Primrose nods with a small smile. "That's the plan." She tilts her head to the side, looking at him curiously. "What all did I miss while I was gone?"

"Well, you missed a lot." Farkle replied and Primrose stayed silent and just raised an eyebrow, gesturing for him to explain.

He then explained to her how Riley and Maya got scammed by a salesgirl, they got a new History teacher for awhile, but then the girls ruined that and Mr. Matthews is still their History teacher. He talked about how Riley's and Lucas' relationship was still complicated, and a new student named Zay was transferred to the school.

"Wow, you were right." Primrose said, starting at him with shock. "A lot has happened since I've left and I've only been gone for a few months." Her eyes then widens, remembering the last part he told her. "Zay? As in Zay Babineaux?"

Farkle nods, furrowing his eyebrows with confusion. "Yeah, why? You know him?"

"He was the only friend I made in Texas." Primrose responds. "Which is why I'm glad I'm back 'cause now I got you guys again." She smiles fondly and Farkle smiles back at her.  She glances towards her door, faintly hearing her mom call for her, and then looks back at Farkle. "I'll see you tomorrow, my mom needs me."

"Okay. Bye, Prim." Farkle waved at her. Smiling, she waved back at him and then hung up the call. She was still smiling as she closed her laptop and stood up from her desk. The anticipation of reuniting with her friends tomorrow filled her with a sense of excitement she hadn't felt in a long time. She left her room, making her way downstairs to find her mom.

Josie was in the kitchen, sorting through a stack of paperwork at the table. She looks up and smiles when she saw Primrose. "Did you get everything unpacked?"

"Yeah, I'm all settled in," Primrose replies, taking a seat across from her mom. "Just finished talking to Farkle. I told him I'm back."

Primrose's mom nods, her smile widening. "I'm sure he was thrilled to hear that. It's good to reconnect with your friends."

Primrose nods in agreement, her thoughts drifting back to the conversations she had with Farkle and the anticipation of seeing him and the others tomorrow. "Yeah, it feels like I never left, you know?"

Josie reaches across the table, squeezing her daughter's hand affectionately. "I'm glad you're feeling at home already. It'll be nice for you to see familiar faces again."

Primrose returns the gesture, her heart swelling with gratitude for her mom's support. "Thanks, Mom. I really appreciate everything you've done for me, especially with this move."

Josie brushes off the gratitude with a gentle smile. "You're my daughter, Primrose. I'll always do whatever I can to make sure you're happy and comfortable. And besides, having you back in New York makes me happy too."

Primrose smiles warmly at her mom, feeling a rush of love and appreciation for the woman who had always been there for her. "I'm glad to be back," She says sincerely, "and I couldn't have asked for a better mom."

Primrose's heart warmed at her mom's words, grateful for the unwavering love and support she had always received. As she sat there with her mom, the weight of her worries lifted, replaced by a sense of belonging and anticipation for the new chapter ahead. Moving back to New York was the right decision, she knew, and with her family and friends by her side, she was ready to embrace whatever the future held.

A/N here's the first chapter! I thought that it would be cool if I added the day she got back to new york and a little bit of context between her & farkle so you guys can kind of see how their friendship is. & tbh i'm already in love with them.
