CHAPTER NINETEEN

"Girl Meets High School- Part Two"

(primrose's outfit for this part of the chapter)

It has been at least a week now and Primrose hasn't hung out with anyone but Farkle and Smackle for that time. She did, however, check in on Riley and Maya from time to time because she isn't really upset with them and wanted to make sure they're okay.

Primrose follows Farkle and Smackle out of a classroom, shaking her head at what Farkle says. "Yo, yo, yo. Where the geniuses at?"

Smackle grins. "I need some Stimuli. Stimuli!"

A embarrassed expression forms on Primrose's face as she groans. She turns around with a hand covering her fcae, pretending to not be with them. "I'm not with them. I don't know them at all."

Primrose looks over at Farkle and Smackle, seeing they had walked up to a boy and girl who were talking. "Are you them?" Farkle asked.

The two of them turn to Farkle and Smackle as the boy replies with, "We are the members of the Abigail Adams Society of Intellectual Advancement."

"How may we be of service?" The girl questioned. Primrose furrowing her eyebrows, wondering why they both sounded like robots.

"Well, you can include us in your little brain trust." Farkle told them.

Smackle nods. "You can more than include us."

"You can bow down to our superior intellect." Farkle smiled.

"You can skip whatever formal hooey it takes to join 'cause we're gonna run this club." Smackle smiles at the two standing in front of her and Farkle. "This is known as the Smackle theory of inevitability."

"By what criteria do you feel you deserve acceptance?" The boy inquired.

"By this criteria: in middle school I used to be kind of a thing." Farkle answers. "My teacher allowed me to step forward and take over the class. We called it 'Farkle Time'. I'm Farkle. And what have you done?"

Primrose's eyes grow wide when a boy who looks exactly like the boy in front of Farkle walks over to them. He gestures to his look alike. "I cloned myself."

Farkle looks at him with wide eyes and his mouth forms an 'o' shape. He does a 360, looking over at the boy's clone and then looks the boy. He then looks at Primrose, pointing at the boy and his clone. "Prim, he-he cloned himself!"

Primrose nods and chuckles. "Yeah, I see that, Farkle." She sighed and shook her head when he fainted. She wasn't surprised that he fainted and she didn't blame him. She was very surprised that a teenager managed to clone himself.

"I apologize for him." Smackle apologizes, looking at the boy who now stood beside her. "He is weak. I am not."

The boy gestures to the girl standing by his clone. "And I built her."

Primrose looks at the girl with a look of shock forming on her face when the girl takes off the skin of her face, revealing robot parts. She points at the girl. "I knew she was a robot!"

And that's when Smackle faints, landing on the floor right beside Farkle.

"I used to be the smartest kid in school." Farkle said at Topanga's later that day.

Smackle looks over at Farkle from her chair beside where Farkle and Primrose sat. "How can we run this world if there are people smarter than us?"

"You find another way." Primrose suggested.

"I feel ordinary." Farkle confesses, looking at Primrose with a frown. "What do I do?"

"Just continue being who you are because who you are is enough." Primrose replies, looking at him with a smile. She looks over at Smackle, making sure to include her. "You too, Smackle." The smile on Primrose's face widens at seeing Farkle and Smackle smiling back at her. The three look over at the door when Lucas and Zay walked in.

"Hey, guys." Lucas greeted.

"So, we all get our butts kicked?" Zay questioned, sitting beside Lucas on a ottoman across from where Smackle was sitting.

"I don't even feel like I'm me anymore." Farkle sighed.

"Yeah," Lucas nods. "These first few days of high school couldn't have gone worse for us."

Smackle looks at Lucas. "You feel bad about finding out there are people here who are bigger than you?"

"No, I expected that." Lucas replied.

"Oh, did you now?" Primrose sarcastically asked, still upset with how Lucas has been acting to her lately. On the first day of high school she had her first ever fight with Lucas and by the end of the week it seemed like he was avoiding her.

Lucas sighs, looking at Primrose with an apologetic expression. "Primrose, I'm sorry for how I've been acting to you lately. I know you were just trying to help out and I just took all of my anger out on you. I'm sorry."

Primrose smiles, happy that he apologized. "Apology accepted."

Lucas smiles. "Good."

"Let me guess," Zay said, looking at Lucas. "You feel bad because you know that it's not gonna be anywhere near as easy as we thought here?"

"No, I'm fine with a challenge." Lucas shakes his head. "That's not it either."

"It's about us." Primrose realized.

Farkle furrows his eyebrows as he looks at each of them. "Is there an 'us' anymore?"

Lucas sighs. "That's it."

"So, look, man, let's go back to Riley and Maya and tell them we feel bad." Zay suggested.

Lucas shakes his head. "No, I can't do that."

Smackle looks at him with confusion. "Why not?"

Lucas points at himself. "Because I feel bad."

Primrose chuckles lightly. "And you don't want to admit that."

Lucas nods, pointing at her. "Exactly."

Smackle then suggests, "Let's just go back and say we're sorry we left them and start all over."

"No, I understand what Lucas is talking about." Farkle shakes his head. "We left them."

"Technically I didn't leave them." Primrose pointed out, immediately shutting up when they each sent her a harsh stare. "Shutting up now." She said, leaning back against her chair.

"Well, we just wanted to see what high school was like." Zay defended them.

Smackle nods. "They'll be okay."

"No," Lucas shakes his head. "You have to understand Riley."

"Riley has such faith in people." Farkle adds. "I mean, yeah, she had faith in the seniors-"

"But she has more faith in us." Lucas finishes Farkle's sentence. "You know what? I not only can't protect them here, but I abandoned them."

"It's not that we can't go back to them." Farkle sighed.

"It's that we don't deserve to." Lucas pointed out. "We left them. I left them alone. They believe in something, and I left them alone. How do you come back from that?"

Farkle shakes his head, staring at the coffee table. "How do we ever face them again?"

"Why 'Massacre'?" Marly questions just as Cory underlined the word he had on the chalkboard at the next day of school. "Why you got 'Massacre' up there? Why can't you just teach us names and dates?"

Cory points at her. "Marly Evans and what she learns today!" He looks at the class. "That's the name and date I care about. All of you and right now, are you listening to me?"

Marly nods and hums in response. Cory chuckles. "Good. It was patriots who founded our new land and it was patriots who fought for it. Why do we remember the Alamo?"

"Farkle, Primrose." Cory points at the couple. "A duet. Go."

Farkle stands up. "The Alamo was a small, isolated fortress with a handful of patriots inside who felt it was important to stick together and fight for what they believed." He turned to Primrose with a grin, dramatically gesturing at her to finish explaining.

Primrose smiles and stands up as he sits down. "A large number of people surrounded the patriots from all around. And those people believed this place was theirs." With a smile she then dramatically gestured for Cory to continue before she sat down.

Cory chuckles and looks at the class. "The patriots desperately wanted reinforcements, but reinforcements never came."

Tension grew between the friend group at hearing that since it was just like what happened with them. "What happened to 'em?" Cory asked.

"They stayed in their fortress and gave everybody a friendly smile, and eventually, they walked upstairs." Riley replied.

"They were massacred." Cory corrected her.

A nervous expression forms on Riley's face. "Then they walked upstairs?"

"No," Cory shakes his head. "But that battle gave birth to a slogan. What was the slogan?"

"Remember the Alamo." Lucas answered.

Cory points at him. "Remember the Alamo! And why do we remember the Alamo?" He points at Lucas and Zay. "Lucas, Zay, a duet."

The two boys stand up as Lucas starts. "Because the patriots gave their lives for a greater good."

Zay nods. "That battle had only just begun, and some years later that land became ours, and the name of that land was..."

"Texas!" Lucas finished his sentence, slapping Zay on the back.

Zay glares at him. "Stop it!"

"Right." Cory nods and the two boys sit back down. "Texas, your home."

He looks at the class as he continues to speak. "So, guys, that's why we remember the Alamo and why we remember all the battles that we fight in effort to make a new place our home. Now, you can stay massacred or you can realize the battle has just begun."

Maya looks at him with a frown. "We were kings, Matthews."

Cory nods. "Kingdoms fall." He looks at Farkle and Smackle. "Everyone who believes they're gonna rule the world falls." He looks at Lucas and Zay. "Everyone who believes that they're strong eventually comes against someone that's stronger."

"And every patriot fighting for a cause," Cory continues. "They're just only as strong as the cause they're fighting for."

"Even I know the next thing he says," Marly chimes in. "Real important."

Cory looks at the class. "What's the cause you're fighting for?"

Primrose walks into Topanga's after Riley and Maya drags Farkle, Smackle, Lucas, and Zay into Topanga's. After the four sat down, Riley pushes Primrose over to the ottoman Farkle and Smackle sat on, making her sit down beside Farkle. Riley and Maya then made each of their friends look at them.

"We're sorry." Riley apologized.

"You're sorry?" Lucas asked, looking at her with surprise.

Farkle furrows his eyebrows. "What are you sorry for?"

"We're the ones who left." Zay reminded Riley and Maya.

"Once again, technically I didn't leave them." Primrose voiced, smiling back at Riley and Maya when they smile at her.

Maya looks at the others and sighs. "We should have realized something happened to you."

Zay shakes his head, pretending to play it cool. "Nothing happened to us."

"Why do you think something happened to us?" Farkle asked Maya.

"We found out we we're stupid," Smackle confesses, referring to her and Farkle. She gestures over to Lucas and Zay with a nod of her head. "And they got beat up like pipsqueaks."

The three of them look at her with an upset expression. Primrose chuckles. "That's one way to tell them."

Lucas sighs, shaking his head. "Don't look at me."

Maya walks over to Lucas, taking a fist full of his shirt into her hand, and makes him stand up. "I'll look at you when I want to look at you, Huckleberry."

Lucas frowns. "Everybody's stronger than me!"

Maya lets go of his shirt and he sits back down. Riley shakes her head. "None of this matters."

Maya looks at her friends. "Guys, the only way we're gonna get through our one year of high school is together like we've always have."

"As much as I wish there was one year of high school, there isn't. Here's actually four years of high school." Primrose told Maya.

Maya shakes her head and heads for the door. "I'm out." Before she could leave, Riley grabbed her arm, and pulled her back in.

"Could somebody please explain to me what's going on here?" Farkle asks. "Because I guess I don't really know anything anymore."

Looking at Farkle, Primrose frowns, sad that he thought about himself that way now. To comfort him, she put her hand on top of his hand that rest resting on his knee. At that action, he looked at her and smiled a bit at her which made her smile.

Smackle looks at Farkle. "I think they're forgiving us for behaving badly."

Riley looks at Smackle and shakes her head. "Smackle, you didn't behave badly."

"When you left, we should have gone with you." Maya voiced.

Lucas shakes his head. "No, when you stayed, we should have stayed with you. I don't know what's the matter with me."

Riley looks at him. "Lucas, you left because you don't think you can protect us here." She looks at each of them. "We all need to protect each other here. Okay? No matter what happens at high school, we're the cause worth fighting for. Us. Nobody leaves."

"Even if we get massacred?" Lucas questioned.

"We're gonna get massacred no matter what we do." Maya answered.

Lucas looks at his friends. "I'd like to say that we've never gotten hurt when we're together. And it's my fault that we weren't." He looks at Riley and Maya. "I'm truly sorry about that and I hope it never happens again. You guys showed us what it means to be strong..."

"And smart." Lucas said to Farkle and Smackle and they both smile at him. He then looks at Primrose. "And caring."

Primrose smiles at him as Riley and Maya sit next to Lucas. Maya looks at Riley. "You still like him?"

"I still like him." Riley replied, looking at Lucas with a smile.

She looks at the rest of her friends with the smile never leaving her face. "I like us all."

(primrose's outfit for this part of the chapter)

Primrose walks into the History classroom the next day of school, tilting her head to the side when she saw it was empty.

"Our classroom is empty." Marly observed.

"Thanks for the obvious insight." Primrose sarcastically commented.

Marly rolls her eyes and looks at Cory. "Oh, come on! Who does this?"

"Me." Cory replied.

Marly scoffs. "Okay, so what I wanted to ask now is why?"

Cory smiles at the class. "Everybody take a seat." After he said that everyone sits on the ground where they usually sat at. Cory moves to stand in front of the class as he asks, "What have you learned in high school so far?"

"We're not kings anymore." Lucas responded.

Riley smiles. "We're Abigail Adams Patriots."

Cory nods. "Abigail Adams once said, 'To be good and to do good is the whole duty of man.'"

"Do good?" Marly looks at Cory with raised eyebrows. "Don't you mean do well?"

Cory looks at her with a smile. "Do you know what the funny thing is about history, Miss Evans? It repeats. I mean 'do good'." He points to the sign above the chalkboard that read 'dream. try. do good'. "That, right up there. That's always gonna be my lesson plan."

Cory turns to face the class. "Now, when the patriots looked out at this new undiscovered land, it was what?"

"Rough and undeveloped, like us." Zay answered.

Cory points at him. "Very good, Mr. Babineaux." He looks at the class with a smile. "But they stuck together and they made it their new home. So will we. Let's fill this room."

Eventually everyone gets their desks and chairs and brings them back into the classroom.  "This is your new school, guys." Cory said to the class once they were each sat down in their chairs, but Primrose noticed Marly was the only one who didn't get her desk and chair yet. "Stick together. Do good. That's how you're gonna have your best future. In this room, I'm your teacher...But we are gonna discover this new land together."

Marly smiles and looks at Riley. "This is how he teaches?"

Riley nods, looking at her dad with a smile. "Every day."

"You're going to get your desk, Miss Evans?" Cory asked the brunette-haired girl when she starts walking to the back exit.

Marly turns to face him with a smile. "No, I'm going to get yours."

****

"Ready?" Maya questioned. The friend group was back in the whole and Primrose stood near them where they looked out between the railing.

Riley smiles. "Ready."

Primrose goes over to her friends, standing beside Farkle. She looked at him when he intertwined their hands together and they smile at each other. The couple looked over at Riley when she speaks to the three seniors.

"I'm glad you guys picked me and my friends."

Nikki smiles. "We wish someone would've done it for us."

"You really put us through it." Lucas commented.

Thor nods. "I know."

"You messed with our heads." Lucas said.

Thor nods once again. "I did."

Lucas smiles after looking at his friends. "We'll be better friends because of it."

"You will." Thor agreed.

"Thank you." Lucas told him.

Thor smiles. "You're welcome." He looks at each of them. "We'll be here for you guys anytime." He looks back at Lucas and Zay. "You trying out for the football team?"

When the two boys immediately said no, Thor asks the same question again. "You trying out for the football team?"

Primrose smiles while watching Lucas and Zay turn to each other with grins on their faces. "Yeah!" They both exclaimed.

Thor chuckles. "Good."

"Now that we're seniors and we've learned so much in this place..." Nikki started.

"We wanted to leave somebody a-"

"Legacy?" Riley finishes Francesca's sentence. The three seniors nods. "Yeah," Thor said. "A legacy." He smiles at the group. "Pass it on someday."

After the seniors leave Riley looks at her friends with a smile. "We will."

Smiling, Maya nods. "When we're kings."

The school bell rings and they were quick to wrap their arms around each other. They stayed close to each other while the hallway was flooded with students.
