"I have depression...help."
Disclaimer: I support real mental illness, eating disorders and any type of suffering or pain to the fullest. This is aimed at a certain audience whom you will easily identify, not people who actually suffer from depression. Do not continue reading this if you're a close minded jerk.
I've been trying to hold off on this one for quite a while to be honest, it here we are. This week's topic is about the monsters who think it's cool to be depressed. Those ones who romanticize mental illness.
"I'm depressed." Says the girl sitting in front of me in class. No honey, you're having a bad day.
"You're so depressed. You have problems since you're so defensive." Says my so very motivating chemistry teacher. No Miss, I'm just quiet and not interested in this subject. I also happen to be defensive because well, you're offensive? Tada?
People, depression is a mental disorder. It is an illness. It-is-not-a-God-damned-mood!
You didn't get that A in Maths? Okay, poor you. But you're not depressed. You do not need help and you're not going to freaking die. You're just upset.
You're upset that we don't believe that B you got is life threatening so you graze your wrist with scissors in front of the whole classroom? Good for freaking you.
You need to understand that it's not cool having a hormone imbalance in your brain which results in a total tipping of your world. It's not cool, it's not pretty, and it is not fun.
You need to understand that cutting your wrists then waving them in our faces is not sad and cute, it's scary and threatening.
You need to understand that people who have clinical depression, MDD, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, schizophrenia etc.. are not happy with it. They're not showing it off. By acting out your drama, you're mocking them. They do not deserve to be mocked.
You need to understand that you are harming so many people in the process. Sure, you're harming yourself, but you're also harming the people whose heads are being messed with because of your little drama act. You friends will freak out and go nuts trying to find a solution for something that isn't there. Depression is in a way contagious, it will affect the people around you. Whether it's fake or not. Believe me, you will kill people in the process. Your family will lose their shit trying to figure out what's going on with you while you're just having fun with this little escapade here.
When you cut yourself, when you force yourself to purge, when you pretend to mix reality and delusion then warn your loyal friends and tell them to keep it a secret because you 'trust' them, you are destroying them. You are ruining them. You are burdening them and crushing their airways, you're washing away their spirits. They won't sleep thinking you're on the verge of death, they won't eat because you're 'starving'. IT IS NOT OKAY, DO YOU HEAR ME? NOT OKAY.
And well, karma is a bish, so over time, you'll believe your own little lies and you will drown in them and guess what? You won't like it. One day you'll wake up and look at your wrists and realize that those scars won't fade, they'll haunt you forever; remaining a lingering shadow on every bit of light you will struggle to have. You'll realize that attention that you could've got in a healthy way but didn't wasn't worth it.
You'll realize how monstrous you are when you look around and see all your friends and family suffocating with the venom your snake-like acts bit them with.

Sorry 'bout that.
I go to a school full of these fake idiots and it's getting to my head. Do excuse me.
Let me know your thoughts on this topic! Have you ever met someone who was like this? If so, what did it make you feel?
