A Tree
"Red, get up." I glanced up from cleaning my weapons as Robin stood tensely. I frowned, and stood up, sliding the knife into its hidden sheath. We walked along the path for a bit, and when we were out of sight of the two boys, Rob pulled me into the trees, then pushed me up against the trunk of an oak. His face was so close to mine, I could see every detail of his features.
"He told you."
"Of course he told me, the boy doesn't even know the meaning of the word secret." Rob growled.
"I saw you take that pouch. You know the Lord that it belonged to?" Should I tell him to truth? Or bend it a little?
"I relieved him of his possessions once. But he was clever, and knew where I lived. He visited me. And my parents. He made me who I am." Not too detailed, not too simple. The perfect lie.
He stared at me for a moment longer, those green emeralds seeing beyond my eyes, before he pulled away.
"Fine."
Why did I get the feeling that he didn't believe me?
