Part 9: The Concert
Wynne contemplated her options of the weekend, and the pros and cons of meeting with Phil. When she called him, she found out that his performance was at three in the morning; Her initial thought was who in the hell is awake at that hour? She didn't think there was a way should could even find an excuse to leave the house by then. But she did think of one plan while she was doing her chores. She thought of a brilliant idea to go to ballet rehersal, and with three hours to spare, she would find a way to get to Phil's concert at Haywords Heath. It was about an hour and a half away, she calculated. She didn't want to go alone, so she thought that she could tell mum or Tony that she was having a sleepover with Ella, and that they would take public transportation down to Phil's gig. Sound like an awful lot of trouble, doesn't it? Wynne thought so too, she thought of the stress of even getting there. Wynne was driven everywhere or walked. Was it even worth it? Maybe she could just say hi at his stand downtown now and then. She didn't know him personally or anything, but she thought he was really interesting. And she was all over new music. Maybe if she told Tony that she was just going to go listen to some music after rehersal he would be okay with it. But then again, at three in the morning? He's probably get suspicious. Mum might have a problem with it, too. Not going to a concert, but the fact that it's after midnight might concern her. She didn't know what the right decision would be, but she knew she had to figure out somethin sooner or later. It was Thursday afternoon.
" Are you mad? I'm not letting you take the metro late at night! Have your brother take you, he's more familiar with the popular teen concert gigs around here; and besides, I'm not sure about driving that late at night. But your brother; I'm sure would love to take you; and then he can pick you up afterwards-"
" Well actually, mum, I was hoping to maybe spend the night at Ella's house. We were going to go together, is that okay?"
" I suppose so, yeah. Make sure you've got money just in case of an emergency, alright?"

" What concert are you seeing tonight, Wynne? You never told me of a concert you were interested in..." Tony asked, while driving in late night traffic with his sister in the front seat, and Ella in the back.
" Oh, just some teens doing some Beatles inspired music." Wynne answered faintly, taking out her bun and the pins in her hair, and fingering her hair till all her curls fell down on her face the way she desired them.
" Oh, alright. Some kids from school?"
" No, they were advertising their concert on posters." She answered again, she looked down at her tights and her leotard, " Don't look, Tony."
" Why?"
" Just don't look, okay!"
And without a doubt he looked, and glanced over at Wynne just has she had began to undress, " Wynne! What in the bloody hell are you doing?" Tony shouted, mortified.
" What part of 'don't look' do you not understand?" She answered, irritated, " I told you not to..."
" W-Why are you changing in the car? We're on the road, Wynne!"
" Yeah, but we're not in broad daylight! It's not like someone's gonna be peeking or somethin." She comfortably changed in to a sundress, as there was silence, and Tony shook his head.
He sighed, changing the subject, " What time do you need picked up?"
" You don't have to, Ella and I are having a sleepover-"
" Yeah, I know. But I'm the one that's got to pick you up tomorrow from Ella's house."
" There's no worries, Tony," Ella chimed in, " Me mum can drop her off at your house tomorrow afternoon without a doubt."
" You have enough money?"
" Yeah." She answers.
" I think I've performed at the venue before, do you want me to check it out and make sure it's safe before you go in?"
" No, Tony it's alright."
" Do you want me to hold your ballet things while you're gone?"
" No, it's no worries, I'm okay."
" Your bag looks heavy without your stuff, I can take it home for you-"
" No mom!" She exclaimed, chuckling, " Thanks for the ride, though." He grinned, as well as she, and she closed the door, throwing her big overnight bag over her back.
Ella and Wynne entered the venue and they were stunned by the view; it looked like a really interesting place with lights lit up; it made the stage look huge. There was a small crowd of people drinking and smoking. It wasn't a setup she had really seen before; the stage looked the same as The Garden Wall's set up when she went to see Tony's show, but lots of the people there looked younger socialized calmly, criss cross on the floor. In this case, lots of people were standing up, sitting down, more in a free for all manner. Lots of people had already arrived, and Ella and Wynne wanted to get a good seat before it was too late. A show was still going on while they walked in, but
" I've never seen anythin' quite like this before." said Ella, and Wynne nodded her head.
" What did you say Phil did? Was he a singer?"
" No, he told me he was a drummer. He just came here to just kind of have a jam session with some old buddies of his and is looking for a better group to work with I guess."
The lights dimmed, and a few gentleman walked onto the stage and set up their instruments. She watched to spot the blonde haired boy in the background, she couldn't really point him out, but she did see a fellow in the dark sliouhette move to the drums. When the lights turned on, she spotted him; his long dirty blonde hair parted down the middle, wearing a red velvet long sleeve button down shirt and black trousers. She smiled, as she watched him mindlessly twirl his drumsticks like a professional, he looked so intense, and focused. Like a professional, before he had even banged the drum.
" That him?" Ella pointed, and she nodded.
Whilst browsing about with their eyes, Ella locked eyes with another musician; a brunette guitar player, with a flowy floral top. Ella thought it was funny, she didn't think that boys were floral.
They were both very talented, and seemed to have a passionate feel, as they would strum and bang, their hair swooshed from side to side, as they switched from a folk feel to to bluesy to rock n' roll. There was no singing whatsoever, just a strong instrumental that didn't need vocal power. Wynne hoped that Phil would see her, but, he looked very much intent in his playing; she didn't want to break from his performance.
The show had ended, and Wynne stayed in the mosh pit, as it had shrunken down by the minute. Looking around, looking down at her dress, and then back at Ella. They stayed there, chatting about the performance, until they saw Phil come out, and his band mate, the guitar player with the floral shirt.
" You made it..." He grinned, as he wanted to hug her but he wasn't too sure if she would be okay with it.
" I did yeah." She grinned, scratching her neck, " It wasn't easy, but I wanted to hear your music."
" Did you enjoy it?"
" Yeah, it was quite interesting! I'd never heard anythin' quite like it before, the medley you did, I mean."
Ella nudged Wynne in the side, and Wynne yelped, looking over at her. She widened her eyes as if she wanted something, " Oh, Phil, this is Ella, she's my best friend."
" Hello Ella. Ah, this is my bandmate Ronnie Caryl, Ronnie; Wynne and Ella."
" A pleasure" Ronnie had said, grinning to Ella.
" Shall we go hit the parlour and get some ice cream or a lollie? All four of us could go share a booth." Phil asked.
" At three in the morning?" Wynne chuckled.
" Oh, you're right, well, let's go get breakfast."
