Part 8: Tony, Phil and Peter

After walking home, she puts the groceries away in the kitchen; the tomatoes and oranges on the counter and the canned beans in the pantry and took tired little Gunthrey off his leash to go fetch some water and rest on the cool tile floor. While she grabs a snack, she looks over at the Newpaper she had dropped on the table. She took it upstairs with her onto her bed. Opening it up, a note slips from the inside fold, and falls on the floor. She picks it up, and reads it,
"Call me and tell me if you're avaliable" it read, with his number at the bottom. Her face felt warm, as she read it over and over. It was sweet, but she really appreciated it. Such a kind offer, but she was upset that her chances were so low, with ballet and all that. She got away with missing one rehersal with mum and dad gone, with Tony--and she didn't dare tell Tony about Phil. It didn't seem like too much of a deal at that moment. She basically already knew what he was going to say about it. As much as she loved her older brother, Tony always had a way with things. He was quite particular with how he believe things were and should be. He wanted all things that had to do with him to go one way, and he wasn't going to give up on it. But she eased up on the fact that he, out of all people, took her to his show. He let her listen to his music and meet with the guys again. More importantly, he knew that Wynne liked Peter so much that he took her out to see him...but oh but Peter. What chance did she even have? Even though he was so very nice to her, and fed her the sweetest compliments, she looked like a puppy every time she was around him. But she still didn't know if Peter liked her, or if he just liked to tease her. She thought she'd never know. Wynne remembered when Tony and him were back at the charter house, and she was only fourteen and was determined to marry him. Peter made Wynne feel weak amid exposed, but Phil made Wynne feel warm and fuzzy. She kept asking herself these questions...she kept working herself up. How was she even going to get to that concert?
She kept picking up the note and reading it,  untill someone knocked on her door, " Wynne, it's me!" It was Tony.
She quickly slid the note under her pillow, and picked up the newspaper,  and pretended that she was reading it, " Come in."
He opened the door, and noticed she was covering her face with the daily newspaper, " Got the paper did you?"
" Yeah, they were selling it at the store downtown so I thought I would pick it up."
" Since when do you read the newspaper?" He chuckled.
She put the paper down and looked at him, " Well, how else am I supposed to get the news?" He rolled his eyes.
" How was your trip downtown?"
" Just peachy keen." She answered, picking up the newspaper again.
" Get what you needed?"
" Sure did."
" Took Gunthrey out?"
" Yes, mum!" She said sarcastically, and irritated.
" Okay!" Tony says sarcastically back, " Don't be so sour, Wynne. Soon I'll be out on the open road again...and you'll be here...with mum and dad all by your lonely self. The last little Banks child..."
She rolled her eyes, as he pretended to sob, " What are you gonna do without me Wynne?"
" I'm going to get my liscense, a car, graduate, and get into a dance school."
" Yeah? Well I know that you're gonna miss me, pip. You know that? You should be thankful for these free piano lessons that I'm giving to you; I don't just give these out to everyone, you know?"
She sighed; he was right. Tony was just trying to seek her out, before he was out to do "band" things, and Wynne was just being unreasonably salty. Tony hadn't even had a girl he was interested in yet; but when he did, Wynne would definitley be spending less time with him. Her brother, three years older in age was taking time out of his day just to be with his little sister. He meant a lot to her, and he wanted to lead her in the right direction, just as his older siblings did. He, and his older brother, John were the only males in the the house, besides dad, and the rest were women. He'd seen the best and worst and he felt he knew what was right.
" Yeah, you're right, Tony, I apologize." She said, in a sulky tone,  " So when's our lesson today?"
" Actually, I'd rather have you listen to something I've been working on lately. I was just messing around yesterday on the piano, and I guess I did something that caught Petey's ear. He told me, 'Hey that's wonderful', and I of course wasn't paying too much attention, you know? I just want you to tell me what you think, that alright?"
" Yeah, of course," says Wynne, " What are you doing now with the band? I mean, besides concerts and stuff like that."
" Local things, and we're wrapping up some music for a new album. That's where the 'noodling on the piano' came about. But I think it might be a good intro to a song, maybe? That's what Peter said, at least. Maybe the both of us are hallucinating. I don't know." He chuckled, jokingly. But Wynne was surprised. He wanted her help? On music?
" Well you know what they say, " says Wynne, as if she was a philosopher,  " Making good music comes in many different forms not by just creating it, but by also recognizing it. Having a good ear, you know?"
Tony was impressed, " Where'd you hear that from?"
" I don't know, the Beatles said it or something. And besides, Peter's got a marvelous sense in music so of course he knows what's good..."
" Right, right," said Tony, " Peter really enjoyed seeing you Sunday night."
" He did?" Her voice cracked at the question, she quickly cleared her throat as Tony chuckled away, " I mean...did he..."
" He did, Mike did too. They were all shocked; they hadn't seen you since you were twelve years old. It was a real treat."
" Well..." She grinned, and flipped her long hair out of her face. Her cheeks were a little pink,  " Does that mean that-"
" Don't even think about it! I'm not taking you out again."
" Wha..why? What do you mean? I didn't cause any trouble! I behaved myself! I didn't start anything!"
" Yeah I know, but, still...I would hate for something to happen while you were there. The music world is different than what you're used to. Lots of things go on, people do things, and things can get out of hand. And then if you get in trouble, I have to take the consequences with mum and dad. I don't want you to have to worry."
She grew more irritated, " That is one-hundred-percent not fair. You started doing music and creating the Garden Wall when you were my age! Even younger! So what on earth is the difference? Is it because I'm a girl? Is that why, Tony?"
Tony put a hand over his face and shook his head, " Wynne you are impossible."
" Tell me what it is!"
" It's not because you're a girl--my god, you always think that!" He exclaimed, and she felt her stomach drop,  "If you were my younger brother I would be saying the same damn thing. Either way, you're still my younger sibling, and I don't want you to wind up getting hurt or something worse. That's all. And as your brother, I have the right to feel that way."
She sighed; a heavy sigh. She didn't say much. Her and Tony as close as they were they argued about the pettiest subjects all the time. It came naturally, as they both always had something to say. He just looked at her, and she looked down at her hands, fidgeting with them. Tony patted her back, " I'll be downstairs, if you wanted to listen," he said quietly, then left her room.

**Hey guys, I know this is really cheesy. But Wynne is just that way ahaha. And it never hurts to have a cheesy story! But it will get realistic soon.**
